Number of NASCAR cars on track

My apologies if there is already a thread about this.


In reality there is a greater number of NASCAR cars on track than the 16 car limit we expect to get with GT5.

However, wouldn't it be safe to assume that most of the NASCAR models will be pretty much the same apart for different paint jobs?

With this in mind, what's to say we won't be seeing a much larger number of cars on track for NASCAR oval races. Since PD have an official license and are using all the official rules it makes sense to have a huge number of cars just like in reality. Yes, it's probably wishful thinking but I am getting my hopes up for this one. I think it would be so awesome to have no real gaps on track thanks to back markers once a few laps have passed.

I don't know much about NASCAR but what I've seen on GT website:

So at least there's Ford, Toyota and Chevy.
 
If the NASCAR model was a 'tard car, maybe, but as a premium model, I doubt it. Besides, why would it be easier to display more cars on track just because they were the same model? If a car contains 250,000 polygons and a similar level of texturing, it makes no difference what the shape is.
 
Maybe with PS4 we can have unlimited number of cars. :sly:

Alright cool. Sorry, I don't know that much about the technical side of things. I just kind of assumed that if cars are the same it would be less intensive on the system.

Its only less intensive on memory, not processing power. If you are using identical shapes, you can just allow the program to access the same bit of memory for the positional information for drawing the polygons. But processing each polygon is still multiplied regardless of shape as it still has to render 16 times however many polygons it is. Its just the program knows where to render those polygons faster.
Thats not even getting into lighting, physics and so on.
Basically, load times would be faster but processing times would still be slower, so yes it is less intensive on the system but not in the right area.

Footage from E3 only shows eight cars in-track at any one time. We know that the maximum number of cars that can be supported in a race is sixteen, so I doubt you'll be getting any more than that.

there is definitely 9 maybe a 10th car appearing in the E3 trailer at one time, look closely, definitely 9, maybe a 10th.

No, it wasn't, because NASCAR is a nice and unique sport.

EDIT: There was footage with 16 cars on track, not with NASCARs but that doesn't matter.
 
Didn't last year's E3 trailer have about 14-16 NASCAR on Daytona?
 
yeah i have seen in the past MANY MANY NASCAR's on track on GT5, im 99% sure we will get plenty of NASCARS on track at once.

Some of those may simply have been videos made for the occasion. At most, I doubt we'll get any more than sixteen on-track at once. Hell, Polyphony only put nine different cars in there.
 
There was an interview somewhere talking about how you can do a "full" NASCAR race and they also mentioned how they took a lot of time making sure all the specific rules were in place. I don't remember the source or how accurate it was. I can only hope lol.

I think they use "full" as in length of the race i.e. Brickyard 400 at Indy Oval, not full 40+ cars (not possible for GT5). That will be another form of endurance race that we have to do in GT5.

I think to get the NASCAR license they had to agree to put all the cars in, so aside from the 8 believe we was at e3 there will be a lot more different drivers cars. Some one actually said that as e3.

Just because you don't like a particular type of racing doesn't make it a bad idea to include it.

I still think Daytonas wrong though, you should be able to drive that track without using the brakes. They don't run much downforce on that track either.
 
I think they said GT5 will have max number of 16 cars. So may be for Nascar also it is same

You can run Daytona without using brakes easily in Prologue, after running there a long time online using various cars you quickly learn where to turn in, how much throttle to use and what speed to go to get the best times and take advantage of draft.
It will vary from car to car but all it takes is to lift off slightly earlier for the corners than if you braked. It also helps with cars that use an MR layout as you get some lift-off oversteer, though you do get a little with FR cars thanks to the banking.

When you use the higher-end cars like the Ford GT Tuned, then you need to brake. But I don't know where NASCAR slots in, in that respect.
 
I want to know if NASCAR is allowed to race against other form of motorsport i.e. JGTC, Touring Cars, etc. because it would allow for a better NASCAR experience

You can run Daytona without using brakes easily in Prologue, after running there a long time online using various cars you quickly learn where to turn in, how much throttle to use and what speed to go to get the best times and take advantage of draft.

NASCARS if driven on a straight bit of road that is perfectly level then the steering wheel is released, would instantly turn left, that is how they are set up, that is how they go round the ovals so well.
I'm not actually 100% on that fact, but I'm really rather sure.
They have strange set-ups that maximise the left turn without regards to the right turn, that is why a Ford GT LM may have to brake when a NASCAR may only lift off slightly.

First off, it's not a NASCAR. That's like saying, "I drive an F1". No, you don't drive an F1, you drive an F1 car.

Anyway, no, the setup can be whatever you want it to be. Yes, they do slightly have to turn right on the straights to keep the car straight, but when they go to a road course (yes NASCAR is not just ovals) they go straight (no wheel turning required) on the straights.
 
I am not a big NASCAR fan myself, but I would certainly love to see more cars on track... but as said, being premium cars I don't see it happening.

How awesome would it be to get the NASCAR cars on road courses... stick Infineon in there and let them have at it....

Sadly I have to wonder if the NASCAR license would allow GT to put cup cars on any old road track.

I know... I live near it... notice how I said "any old road track" there at the end... I would like to see NASCAR on Infineon just for the cool factor of konwing the track is near me.

What I was getting at is I wonder if the NASCAR license prohibits PD from just opening up road courses in general to NASCAR vehicles.

Yes, it was a specific wish of NASCAR if I recall correctly. It was in an article or interview, need to look it up.
