Number of NASCAR cars on track

I want to know if NASCAR is allowed to race against other form of motorsport i.e. JGTC, Touring Cars, etc. because it would allow for a better NASCAR experience

Not really, NASCAR COT's and Trucks were designed to be very close competitors, the rules are strict and they have to fit certain measurements as far as the overall shape, dimensions and weight. To make them very close out on the track to raise excitement and make it more even.

So pitting a rather large and brute 800hp COT vs. a light and agile and refined GT500 car, would in my eyes be a no brainer. GT500 all the way, what it lacks in power it will make up for in handling and accel.

@ Tornado, I'm sure if you snoop around here you will find some confirmation of being able to race the COTs on any track, i think Page 1 of the E3 Thread.

Thanks for that. I must say the thought of PD sending some hapless guy out to Germany to keep taking pictures of graffiti on The 'Ring amuses me.

I've always wondered about how a V8 Supercar would do against a COT.

NASCARS if driven on a straight bit of road that is perfectly level then the steering wheel is released, would instantly turn left, that is how they are set up, that is how they go round the ovals so well.
I'm not actually 100% on that fact, but I'm really rather sure.
They have strange set-ups that maximise the left turn without regards to the right turn, that is why a Ford GT LM may have to brake when a NASCAR may only lift off slightly.

You are correct. And actually, if you watch a race sometime and look carefully, the cars' bodies actually look like they're twisted ever so slightly. It's weird when you first notice it.

In some video, that was deleted, a Sony Rep said 16 cars online was the minimum.

Now, not having 15 AI, and their physics would certainly free up a lot of resources. I think in multiplayer all the physics of each person's car would be done locally on their PS3, so maybe 32 online might be the case after all

Just think... If there will be 9 Nascar vehicles, in a 16 player lobby race... I'm guessing you can be in multiple places at once.

In a recent interview (GamerLive.tv video) Taku Imasaki said that they are evaluating this option.

Confirmed. It's the same above interview (the video is available on that site)

Found it. They pulled one, but then I saw it again the other day.:)

Edit: He says it at about 5:30.

Ha, yes it does look strange. Nascars have mass amounts of positive camber where as road cars have negative camber settings too. Nascars license to PD says they (PD) has to have EVERY Nascar in the 2010 season in the GT5 game. So, you'll be able to choose from over 30+ cars. If you want a true Nascar sim racing experience just goto iRacing.com!! Full grids>>>
Graphics are good but don't compare to GT5. But iRacing physics are phenominal!!
Lookie!

NASCAR oval bodies (Nationwide most of all) are not symmetrical as an asymmetrical body can house a different chassis built specifically for ovals and offers better aerodynamics too.

yeah i have seen in the past MANY MANY NASCAR's on track on GT5, im 99% sure we will get plenty of NASCARS on track at once.
We've never seen more than 16 cars on track at once in a GT5 or GT5:P video. If you look at any GT5 NASCAR footage it's never more than 16 cars.

There was an interview somewhere talking about how you can do a "full" NASCAR race and they also mentioned how they took a lot of time making sure all the specific rules were in place. I don't remember the source or how accurate it was. I can only hope lol.
You're right, but that doesn't mean that suddenly the PS3 can render 30+ 250k polygon cars and handle the sounds and physics for those 30+ models. It can't. They're likely referring to doing a full length race with the full NASCAR rules in place.

16 cars on track at once is the official word from PD, to expect that to magically jump to 30+ for NASCAR races is silly.

I think online maybe different though, with no AI and their physics to run. And only the physics of your car to generate, while all the other player's cars are basicly replays on your machine.

He says Minimum 16 cars... Not to look into that too much, but its means room to grow.

Spot on.. I would be surprised to see more for sure. But it would be nice to have the option.

It doesn't work like that, but in the end it doesn't matter because it is hard to find more than 16 dedicated racers who are willing to race clean, on consoles anyways.

Many of you will find out that 16 is more than enough, if not just the right number.

Yeah, I agree that 16 will be fine initially. Let's get gamers used to NASCAR in general, then maybe in a year or so, PD may be able to pull off more cars on track. Regardless, I look forward to it.
