OK... just to help clear stuff up... SCEE would be a division of SCEI (Sony Computer Entertainment Inc./Japan) which owns SCEE (Europe/Australia), SCEA (North America), Sony Computer Entertainment Hong Kong Limited, Sony Computer Entertainment Korea Inc, and any others i'm missing.zonekillHere we go again.., it has everything to do with the licence, i think. SCEE owns the F104 licence so that doesnt mean that SCEJ/PD can use it as well! The licence issue is very complicated at times, it was the same with the Diablo in GT3, some licence can only be used in a specific region EU,US, Asia, or even a country. It depends on the licence contract. Of course its not wise to have F1 04 cars tracks in GT4 as well, so therefore SCEE doesnt sell that to PD, SCEJ
SCEE doesn't own the license... they may have negoitated it on behalf of SCEI, but SCEI is granted the license to use for it's subsidiaries to release games. So the F1 license is for the Playstation gaming platform, not just for PAL playstation.
As far as the Diablo goes, the reason it wasn't in all versions of GT3 was that the license for the car was from JTGC directly and the simplified version is that the JTGC is able to license any cars in it's series for use in Japan only. So, that's why it's in the Japanese version of GT3. To license the car outside of that region JTGC and the manufacturer would have to give permission... since Lambo's license was not available, no lambo outside Japan.
Finally, i don't see the reason that people don't want F1 components in GT, and there is no logic to excluding F1 tracks/cars from GT from Sony's or PD's perspective. PD is actually owned by Sony... in fact Kaz is a SCEI executive... Kaz originally worked @ SCEI and it was the success of GT1 that spawned PD as a separate company. So in fact, using the F1 license for GT is Sony using their license for a Sony game. In doesn't detract from Sony's game sales, b/c sales of GT are Sony game sales (not some other manufacturer/publisher).
confusing i know... best way to think about PD/Sony's relationship is that they are one in the same (very simplified, but easiest).
