Watch this Corvette 2012 and tell me if you recognize the track. What the hell just happened, there are so many elevations and the distance seemes shorter and the curbes seem a lot harder. Though he goes fast as hell it seems like PD can do little more work. Now i feel there must be something that can be fixed or is this gonna come in GT6?

Tele lens happened. The Nordschleife is pretty much spot on in GT5.

Relex!!

Don't forget GT5 is just a game.
PD did a great job creating the Ring as they did.

It might not be perfect but I think it's the best recreation on a consolegame to date.

Take a look at this vid:

Looks pretty spot-on to me. Conveying elevation change in a video game is darn near impossible but I think they do a pretty good job of it. A lot of people agree that PD's rendition of The 'Ring is the best available in any racing game/sim and from what I've seen I tend to agree.

It never ceases to amaze me how people suddenly expect video games to be a 1:1 perfect match to reality. The PS3 has 256mb of RAM, that's half as much as my cell phone.....I'd say what they've done with GT5 is rather amazing. 👍

dont get me wrong, i love the ring on gt5, but i cant feel like there is something missing. There are some distances that just dont feel right. And may be the feeling is that the track is narrow in this video but mostly i just feel there are many places that are a lot easier done in the game. But the elevations are just so wrong. I know i have seen better in Shift 2 so it should be possible. And no, i play only GT 5 now days so i love the game, but i thought that playing the game i would know the track. But i guess there is a big differance still.

The real error comes in when you see that if you matched those speeds around the track, you would run closer to a 7:42 in GT5 then that 7:22.
For example, in GT5 somehow the ZR1 can easily reach 190+ on the straight, where that didn't quite nab 170MPH.

And it's just as bad if you watch the ACR record at Laguna Seca. VERY inaccurate on all scales, hills, bumps, dips, bounces, speeds, time, everything.

So does the "tele lens" explain why the car is going 25mph slower at the end of the straight too? :p

Even with the lack of details, the Ring has always been very accurate in Gran Turismo.

The one in NFS Shift looks fine and more detailed, but it feels odd. But maybe it's because of the broken physics.

The one on Forza 4 is simply wrong... Not only does the track looks too smooth, but it looks too wide and cars like the Zonda R take more than 8 minutes to do a full lap.

GT5's version of the Nordshleife is the best recreation out there, if you want anything better you will need a Laser Scan of the track. The wrong distance between corners is a common issue with all tracks in GT5 and it comes from the way they create the tracks. The only way they could get exact copies of each track is to simply do a Laser Scan, wich I pretty much expect for GT6.

Have you driven the track for real ? The time it takes to get around seams alot quicker than it really is.

It's the camera's focal length in the Corvette video that changes the perception. One way to emulate the camera view in GT5 is to choose the 'Zoomed" view in the Quick Option (while driving which will then give you the same view in replay).

Nürburgring is such a complicated track to replicate due to it's thousands of bumps, divots, pitches, elevation and constant radius change, that I would say it's impossible to truly replicate, unless, like Jav said Sony/PD make the next logical step for the future of simulation and purchase 1 or more laser scanning machines to take all the guessing/measuring work out.

It really is the only way, but I believe they have done an incredible job, and Yamauchi taking part in the ADAC 24h race the last 2 years is a pleasant confirmation that the creator himself knows the difference between his game and reality, and wants to hopefully work on improving things further.

He pulls 1.6G in some corners, isn't that the game equivalent of Sport Soft?
People don't realize the value of being able to run 100 laps and crashing 50 times to achieve a best lap. That guy didn't crash once to run a 7:22, let alone run more then 3 laps most likely.
That's why people can't get a straight answer as to what tires are "realistic" in GT5.

I don't really think it needs a little more work, I actually think it's fine where it is. I'm actually a little surprised none of you brought up this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Mi_xKz3WLw

What are you going on about? Doesn't matter which tires you choose in the game, you will always get a faster time than real life. It's like you all of a sudden have an issue with GT5 not being like for like perfect replication of real life. Just looking for an argument or what?

Case end point, lack of fear in a game allows us to push virtual cars well beyond the limits any of us ever would outside of your consoles, stop acting like you didn't know this. It's like every where you look on here it's "oh look, GT5 isn't perfect, let me tell everyone who I can". No matter how close they can replicate anything in the game, you will never ever replicate realistic lap times considering you have no fear at all, no matter how fast you drive in the game you won't care.

Anyway, PD can laser scan all their courses into the game, and get the best tire simulation they can, balance the physics immaculately and precisely and you will still get faster lap times in the game than anyone in real life can. I don't care about matching anything as long as the game can realistically give me something fun to do, especially considering I can't yet go to many of these courses and drive my car around them. :)
