Hello and welcome all to week 4 of the NRS!

*EDIT* VOTING OVER PLEASE SEE POST NO2 FOR THIS WEEKS SPECIFIC CAR/SETUP 👍

The NRS is making good progress and thats thanks to all who are voting and racing each week, we are really getting to grips with the sports suspension and will be soon trying our hands at some "semi race" parts, a good understanding of car setups and the ring is the aim and i completely think we are moving in that direction, we have had an interesting line up of cars so far which i have enjoyed greatly, week 4 should be no exception.....

This week we are moving to the 250-300 BHP power bracket which is dominated by japanese machines of various incarnations, which car will take the vote this week?

As usual i need you to PM me your top 3 cars by 9PM GMT sunday (6th/11/05)

Remember no discussing voting on here everyone 👍

Onto the cars......

nrsweek40084dd.jpg

The Ford RS200 '84.....

nrsweek40044df.jpg

The Mazda RX7 "Spirit R (Type A)"....

nrsweek40030se.jpg

The Honda NSX-R....

nrsweek40065lq.jpg

The Subara Impreza 22B....

nrsweek40011wk.jpg

The Nissan 350Z "Gran Turismo" LTD edition '05

As usual the cars are picked on their own merit over a flying lap of the ring in standard set up, remember parts, power and tyres will be changed so make your decision based on which you want to drive and that reason only 👍

Results up sunday :)

cheers to all

Dave

HELLO TO ALL AND WELCOME TO YOUR CAR CHOICE FOR WEEK 4!!

There was a somewhat limited turn out for voting this week however the points system still works and the top three cars you wanted to drive were as follows...

In 3rd position with 9 points - The Mazda RX-7 Spirit R

In 2nd position with 16 points - The Nissan 350Z Limited Edition '05

But just edging by 1 point...- The Honda NSX-R '02

nrsweek40103bv.jpg

An excellent choice from all who voted for this car, The NSX is a finely balanced machine in standard form and has all of the ingredients for an entertaining week of driving at the Ring. 👍

During the last few weeks we have been doing some basic suspension tuning and learning about "N" tyres strengths and weaknesses, this week we continue with our sports suspension but will be moving up to the track focussed "S1" tyre. The immediate difference with this is in the braking areas but all round grip is improved, try to apply the knowledge gained so far with the sports suspension to get the best out of the NSX-R fitted with these track tyres......

Please set the car up as follows :

S1 tyres

Oil change
Sports Exhaust
Port polish
Racing chip

Stage 1 weight reduction

Sports suspension

Semi-racing flywheel
Twin plate clutch.

Power in your tuning screens should = 338BHP
Weight should = 1155KGS
Giving us a power to weight ratio this week of 292.64BHP/TON

The usual rules apply:

All rumbles and concrete are part of track
No wall touches
As the "1 off" rule from last week seemed to die its own death then two wheels must be on track at all times.
All times to be submitted to me by PM no later than 9PM GMT on Sunday 13 November.
PLease only discuss T times on here no final laps

T2, T4, T7 and T10 are ideal 👍

Any problems give me a shout, other than that start your engines!

cheers

Dave

although i'm not taking part, i'd like to see the ford rs200 this week.
just my 2 cents!!! :)

My votes are in! :scared:

Quite a choice of cars ... some nice ones in there.

Shxxxt! They're all so awesome!!!

Vote results are in everyone, see post No2 for your Week 4 machine 👍

cheers

Dave

hmm... for some reason i couldn't find the voting thread when i was looking for it last night. eh well, the lineup is exactly how i would have voted for them anyhow.

Will try and make some time for this...

Life just sucks when you havn't got time to race! :(

Man, this thing HAULS A$$. It's a little loose for me (stock) and can be somewhat resistant to braking, but quite a joy to drive, that's for sure 👍

T10: 6'53.714

A few careless mistakes ... I find that the NSX gets airborne waaaaaaay easily and loses traction in o-so-many places, but this only means that I should be able to shave off a decent chunk of time tomorrow.

Had my first session this morning with the "R" and beginning to think i may have made the jump to "S" tyres too soon, amazing how much quicker lap times are with these....

Okay so straight out of th pits the NSX-R feels balanced to me, no major understeer or oversteer problems but does tend to feel a bit vague and bounces a lot as Nat says losing grip here and there...

I set a bit of camber on at 2/1 (any more i found it started to lose grip) and lowered the ride height all round to 108 which has tightented it up a bit....

Still lots of work to be done and my lap was a bit cautious and error strewn in some places but got the following:

T2 1'22.665
T4 2'44.995
T7 4'45.519
T10 6'35.235

Should be a fun week again i think 👍

cheers

Dave

I swear i will submit one of these weex.

Problem i have is finding a pc on a sunday to get the time in.

Still, loox like fun, we'll have a go.

Well done Dave.👍

I love the lift-off oversteer! It's really easy to get the car turned into the corners just by letting off the throttle and turning. Sweet ride.

......Yes but can come unstuck when lifting going into the heavy braking area after T11 at over 175mph!! (my braking point has since moved way back for that one!)

Dave

WHOAAHHHHH I am sooooooo far off the freaking pace. Small Fryz, hurry up and post a setting to use this week!

Put the first 200 km on the clock tonight... total clean laps: 0 :p

Me thinks me might be pushing it a bit too much :D

wow... the first car i've driven on the ring in a long time that isn't faster than its tires.
shouldn't be too difficult staying clean this week.
first quick splits:
T2: 1'21.480
T4: 2'43.840
T7: 4'42.622
T10: 6'33.322

oh, settings if anyone wants them:
104 | 104
7 | 10
2.6 | 1.8

makes the car pretty neutral... removes the lift-off oversteer, but i never liked that about the nsx anyway.

Now i will be upfront about this lap, i have 3 wheels off, be it for .1 of a second, but it was 3 off. I take it this is not allowed?

Anyway this is the good news from my lap.

0'45.701
1'21.283
1'50.220
2'42.074
3'21.700
3'49.935 (lost .4)
4'40.922 (lost .2)
5'23.771
5'46.029
6'29.471

And settings

106/108
8/10
2.5/0.6

wow... I,m not sure if i should continue this exercise... i'm almost 30 seconds behind you guys... i guess i'm not that good a driver after all LOL

Dont worry about it, the ability to see where your slow and improve is the name of the game here 👍 Keep chipping away :)

@Small_Fryz...the 1 off rule was not taken on board by most of you so i didnt feel it was worth continuing with, you yourself said you would be running clean..

Im sure you can come up with another lap thats worthy of 1st/2nd anyway :sly:

Dave

Indeed :p

But this lap was fast :indiff:

I will try again 👍

See what i can do :D

I wouldnt want to submit it anyway. I was just clutching at straws to make myself feel better

It was the 2nd last corner before T7. How you go karusell, then right kink, then left kink. then left then flick right. That corner i cut a bit to much :(, then after that you go right again and cross T7.

Silly section, yet fun

heh, maybe dave should start putting a track map in post #1 of each week to help people reference the actual section/turn names.

oh saturday i plan to run the wheels off the nsx... i'm comming for you this week you crispy ozzy tater. :D
(i hope i can get 5 seconds off my 1st stint)

If I'm not mistaking, you're describing 'Wippermann'. Indeed very quircky and kinda fun, but at the same time, very tricky :p

I put a link to a good PDF map in the warm up week, better that people download it i think and use it for thier own reference, here it is again for those who dont have it...

Had a good few runs today and managed the following:

T2: 1'20.919
T4: 2'42.xxx (Missed the last few numbers during the replay)
T7: 4'42.451
T10: 6'33.892 (Dr_Watson, this week looks like it's gonna be a close one again!)

I have a suggestion for T-Times. I reckon we should include T1 aswell as it is after a very technical section where loads of time can be lost and may help us figure out if we are loosing time between the start and T1, T1 and T2 or in my case, both sectors. :)

After much tinkering, settings are as follows:

112/112
3/5
2.8/2.0

Laters 👍

Okay i hear you geeteye, what im going to do is say add your T1 time if you want to, we dont want to go more than 4 or 5 t times though for simplicity and Bart has to input these and update the board also...And i wouldnt worry your 1.5 up on me at T2 anyway, its a mystery where that time is within that first two sectors....

regards

Dave

Updated the board, added T1. We can try it out, see how it goes :)

As for my run so far... 320 km done, total clean laps: still 0 !! I'm on a roll this week :p

I can't believe how far off the pace I am ... so many D2 and D3 drivers here I can wrestle with on equal terms, but here on the ring I'm nothing but meat.

Yes theres some quick times in already...

Interestingly geeteye is quickest of everyone down to T2 AND T4 being 3 seconds up on me at T4 alone only to drop back to 1.3 ahead by T10, shows the leaderboard doing its job, for example: geeteye can see he needs to work on after T4 etc, i find usually that if i get to t4 maybe t6 ok im easing off to make sure i complete a clean lap, for me its the first half of the lap which causes problems usually...

For myself i can see i need work all round really and im sure thats down to car control and experience as ive only been doing OLR for 3 months, before that my driving was horrendous (even though i thought i was quick).

However im getting better lines through the "Ring" now and consistently using them each week in each different car so onwards and upwards, will see how much i can improve by sunday 👍

Just a quick reminder to everyone that unless you happen to have downloaded a full gamesave :sly: (as i did for testing purposes) you may need to start to think about getting some funds together for future NRS weeks coming up, i try to keep costs down but some of the cars we are working with and towards are going to cost a bit, so please bear in mind you might need to set "bob" up for a few laps here and there 👍

cheers all

Dave
