Obsolete cars in GT5

Man, there's no "obsolete" car, talking this way I can only assume that you're not a true car fan. Classics and "stupid" japanese Kei cars ( as mentioned by others ) are the jewel of the crown of GT, I personally love Classic cars and I guess that's a big mistake to include too few muscles in the game. 👎

Personally, I agree that the proportion between Japan and the other countries is not really fair, PD should emphasize Europe and USA at least, because they simply make the greatest cars and they have the best classics.

Even so, I don't think that they simply should drop any car for the next games, they should only make additions of the new models, add more classics if possible and keep the cars from the previous versions. Why they dropped the Plymouth GTX, Old Challenger, and the shelby GT500 from GT2 to GT4? That was a big mistake, I hope they just don't do it again.

For me I find it dissapionting to see so many new cars, older models are more pure driving cars, I don't like my cars being unnessesarily big and heavy or having useless junk like abs, tcs. Most new cars are bigger and heavier than the model they replace and some times have a bigger engine and brakes to try and make up for this, but what's the point, why make it bigger? If you want a bigger car get the next model up, car companies have to keep making new smaller cars, to replace the car that used to be that size a couple of years ago:dunce:

Ok. I hear what everyone is saying.

Perhaps I should rephrase my concern, as a couple of of others have said it better than me here. My concern is not obsolete cars (it is true that no car is ever truly oblosete, at least not to enthusiasts) I just dont want it to feel out of date.

I don't have a problem with old cars. Alot, nay, most of my favorite cars are old. Ther MKII Jaguar is possibly the best sleeper ever, anything with the words 440 six-pack is almost bound to be a dream, a Muira is still the most beautifull car ever (to me) and the only thing better than the latest model MX5 is the original. Old cars are fantastic. They tend to be less complicated, more involving to drive and more, well, alive. One of the thigs I loved about GT4 was that it had so many more older cars than GT3, particularly more muscle cars and some cool vintage Japanese stuff I was previously unfamilar with.

Others have mentioned the joy of modifying and winning in older cars. I have played through GT3 and 4 a couple of times and i almost invariably start with an original MX5 or a Trueno because they drive well, take to mods like a duck to water and still ,look great to boot (subjective.) I recon it is more satisfying to win in a modified car that you have tested and honed rather than buy a Zonda or Escudo and thrash everybody. That is where the true gem of this game lies.

Old cars are wicked, more of them I say. I just like that I also get to drive some of the more recent performance cars. I just dont want the game to feel a bit out of date, though with the recent talks of DLC that may not be such an issue :)👍. Its all good.

Everything all of you have said is true in its own way, and heres to GT5 sooner rather than later. Personaly, i cant wait to punt a Jensen Interceptor round the 'Ring again. IN HD

All the best. see ya'll online.

A much improved version of what you were actually trying to say 👍 I`m sure everyone can now see your point and calm down a bit. You do make a good case though. :)

Well... if the concern is GT5 feeling out of date... considering GT usually has its share of concept models and pre-release models, it won't be "out of date" completely for at least a year or two... and that's not taking into account DLC.

And again, unlike games that rely almost entirely on brand new cars, with just a smattering of old models (NFS games come to mind... can you imagine Underground actually had a Sentra? And not one of the classic models, but a big, fat, QR25 powered Sentra? That dates your game faster than a Britney Spears song)... where was I? Unlike those other games, GT has enough historical depth that it won't feel too badly affected by having its more modern cars just one model year out of date.

I personally believe that Kaz and the gang are somewhat amazing when it comes to having the different variations and generations of different vehicles in their games. I would imagine that won't change with GT5.

I was amazed by the fact that on GT4 they had put in both the 96 spec Honda Integra Type R and the 00 spec Honda Integra Type R. Even though both of these cars are very, very similar they had the correct wheels and such on each. Also, they offered the USDM version Acura Integra Type R also. Another That I found was the two different (EP3) Civic Type R's where only the headlight/taillights/ and bumpers changed. Also, they had the 96 spec (EK9) Civic Type R and the 98 spec Civic Type R where the only thing that changed was headlights/fenders/hood/and front bumper. This too me was amazing and of course I bought every single variation.

To me Gran Turismo was the most fun by taking a 1991 Honda CRX SiR and making it a 250hp all-motor monster and going out and beating up on Corvette's and GTR's. That too me is the ultimate form of racing. Grass roots.

Look at the cars in GT5P

And already we know of some of the refreshed/facelifted/replaced/upgraded models since then:

370Z
Viper ACR ('08 4th gen)
ZR1
458 Italia
Xanavi SuperGT 350Z (was current in concept videos and now we have the GTR)
GTR Spec V

and this is just with what we know so far from scraps of information we dig up, which is very little in retrospect. I don't expect every modern but aging car in GT5 to have a brand new model in it's place on release, but PD will keep up fairly well.

Manufacturers do not hand out licenses for game developers model 5-year old cars only. The benefit to them must include advertising current model cars, hence I have good faith that GT will include a large number of new-gen machines.

What money does Ford make off people wanting to buy a used Focus?

;)

In that statement I can see your point. But, to me most people who first start driving buy used vehicles. My first was a used Honda Civic. To me, these older used cars might not make the manufacturer any money at that time but with most people you tend to draw a liking to your vehicle. As in the fact that I loved my old Civic sooo much that if I were to go out and buy a brand new vehicle it would more than likely be a Honda. This is true with most vehicles in my eyes. People that started off driving an old Mustang GT or Foxbody 5.0 will probably be more inclined to buy a new Mustang when they start making better income. Also, if they do very well in life they might even be willing to buy a new Cobra or GT. But to me people tend to stay with their brands and those brands start to gain

Can you explain why GT4 had over 700 cars with most of them being from the 90's and before?

Their were hundreds of cars from after the 90's!!

R34 GTR's Aston DB9, Vanquish, DB7 vantage BMW M3 E46 M5 E60 M3 CSL EVO 8's Zonda s SRT4 just to name a few.

I think its hard to have a good balance with old cars/classics and new models, previous GT titles has, but if GT5 dont have a Civic hatchback 93-95 i will burn the disc(or gift to someone).

Sorry my enlgish.

The one update I want, but KNOW won't be updated is the 2010 Viper ACR, or the 2010 ACR-X...

I'm positive we will receive the 2008 ACR which is damn near the same car as the 2010 but the 2010 has slightly reworked suspension settings, different gearing and a shorter shifter that has been incorporated from what the engineers learned while setting the lap record at The Ring...

I know this update will not happen, but it would be an easy one considering the modeling is identical (It is just offered in some more color combos for 2010). All that would be required is to update the standard suspension settings (although it is totally adjustable from the factory), trim the shift time a smidge (to simulate the shorter throw shifter), and finally enter the new gear ratios and done....This would be much easier then modeling an entirely new car...

Or you could (in GT5) buy a 2008 model, buy the sports suspension or whatever it is, change it a tiny bit, give it a short shif-oh wait disregard that, give it a new clutch, buy the customizable gearbox.

Oh who am I kidding, everyone will inevitably buy the fully customizable bits for all the cars they like. So for you all it means is moving a few sliders one click to the right.

Now, as for obsolete cars, of course some cars are going to come out too late. Why do you think there was no E60 M5 in GT4, the car launched 2 years after the gam...oh wait. I mean, how was GT5P ever going to get new releases like the Ferari California and Lotus Evor...dammit.

Due to the fact that a lot of companies are showing models 2 years before they 'should' (such as Ford showing the 2011 stang in 2009), PD should be able to nab quite a few that aren't 'out' yet, like the LF-A and the SLS and the new Toyota tofu drift car/tuned edition. What they can't get, free updates like GT5P is the way to go.

I mean, they don't even have to charge for it - according to my calculations, GT5 has already been paid off by GTPSP sales, and GT5 looks set to bring in $$$,$$$,$$$. Sony should just use that $$$,$$$,$$$, a tiny fraction, to give GT5 players more cars. Bring it over 1000. Come on PD, go for the 1111GET.

EDIT: Though on the odd chance a car does become obsolete and gets the boot, I hope it's the Mk IV GTi. And the Bora or that generation. They both suck.

there's no such thing as an obsolete car, all cars are good, if it was in the prologue, itll probably be in the full game, along with its newer variants, GT has always impressed me since they have many concepts in the game, and years later, a car much like it comes out, it's amazing. GT5 will be like that, If not, it's not a GT game

let'S make this clear:

NO CAR IS OBSOLETE!

not because it's old, not because it's been replaced, not because it's running on fuel, not because it's big, not because it's small, ESPECIALLY not because it's not new.

I want a car and i want IT in E.V.E.R.Y generation, from the first one to the latest one.

Actually i would be even more sadder if GT5 doesnt have more old cars.

As much as I want the brand new z4, i also want the z1, i want the z3 M coupe, i want the 323i (e21! for those who knows, i am not talking to the 10 year old little kid who's gonna post after me)

i want the e30, i want my car in there, the e36 too.

THOSE are far from being obsolete.
I don't think it's possible we'll be seeing Concept Cars cars like Dodge Copperhead, or "Black Sheep" cars like Ford Maverick.
I just hope these cars or other cars that won't be included in the game will be able to be purchased via PlayStation Network.

But you got a good point. I really hope to see in "tuner village" the HKS R33 Drag GT-R.

Take GTPSP as an example. of the 800 or whatever cars, only 10 are 2006 and newer.

Obsolete cars? Of course, they've always been in GT. It doesn't mean that they're bad cars. In GT1, GT2, & GT4 I started with the, what was the year... 1990 Toyota Supra? That car was awesome. In all of those games that car became a project of mine, I would tune it up so it could compete in tougher races while I saved credits to buy supercars later in the game.
I trust PD to include more relevant cars (I mean, '08 and newer) in GT5.

Take GTPSP as an example. of the 800 or whatever cars, only 10 are 2006 and newer.

Thats an unfair assumption as the vast majority of cars in GTPSP were in GT4. It would be fairer to deduct all of the cars that were in GT4 from the GTPSP list to see what proportion of new models were put in the game.

In GT5 all the cars have to be re-modelled. Although it isn't confirmed, the likelihood is it will contain most if not all of the cars from GTPSP, plus the ones from prologue that wern't in GTPSP.

I think the 'relevant' cars are only the ones that wern't in GT4, i.e. 2005/2006 or newer. But you have to consider, with the addition of many new manufacturers for GT5, a lot of older models have to be added too. Not to mention older models from existing manufacturers ingame that fans have requested.

that's not what they were arguing about. Most importantly, most of the cars in gt5 will also be from gt4. Then you will have few dozen new models.

Yes, but even more importantly, the physics will be better for GT4 cars, the GT4 cars will have damage, and all GT4 cars will have an interior view (ALONG WITH EVERY OTHER CAR DUH, but you get the idea).

new physics make a 2003 ford focus something different than a 2003 ford focus?

Take GTPSP as an example. of the 800 or whatever cars, only 10 are 2006 and newer.

And that was very disappointing.

About the GT4 cars, i guess what he meant was, we will be able to re-drive those cars with more details, online, and with better physics.

I would only select 300-350 cars from GT4, but that's just me.

I don't think it's possible we'll be seeing Concept Cars cars like Dodge Copperhead, or "Black Sheep" cars like Ford Maverick.

 I wouldn't even dream with that, ford Maverick 302V8 '74? Awesome but almost impossible to be in the game... , the only classic 'stang was the shelby GT350, PD left the Mach-one, Fastback '67 and many others out of the previous games, why they would include Maverick, which is a car substantially less appealing than the Mustang?

Besides, the more pony and muscles the better, if the number of muscles match the number of skylines we will have dozens of them :D, I love skylines, the more the better, but I love muscle cars too. :)

It's bound to happen with a game that has an insanely long development time like GT5. I'm sure that if they knew the game would take this long to finish they would have modeled cars later to catch all the new models - another reason this delay is hurting them.

BUT, think about it this way - you dont want PD to skip a generation of cars like the previous Z4 and MK5 VWs either..
