Pic 1 and 2 are CG. Pic 3 and 4 is real time.

cobragt, you are truly living in a land of wonder. I can't wait for your tears to roll.

I think my blood pressure is goin up waiting for this game

Look at the textures, they are the complete same
But we'll find out when the trail version is released but until I'm proven wrong with offical word I'll believe those are ingame.
Of course the textures are the same. Do you think that PD would go to the effort of generating a whole bunch of new textures, just for a couple of promo shots?
Development for the PS2 (AFAIK) is done on emulators (no, they don't plug a keyboard into the PS2 and have fun, ) It's easy to pump up the resolution and with modern video cards, to add resonable AA to the pictures.
IMHO what we're seeing is development pics done at hi res, with AA, but other than that - essentially the same. The only difference is with the rendered graphics for cutscenes. Look at the shadow of the lancia - see how angular it is? It looks like a slightly deformed icecube.
Nothing like the lancia itself. (well, it is a little angular, but nothing like the shadow) - The lancer is similar, but it's harder to see the corners because of the gradient in the shadow, but the corner at the foremost part of the bonnet is still visible. Now look at the shadows in the picture of the focus - see the really nice curves of the focus itself? And look at the shadows of the people - really nice!

now the real discussion is about wheter these pictures make the waiting less or more painfull......;)

ahhh i'd say more painfull :irked:

After feeling stupid because huge crowds start yelling every time I pass with my Lupo before a grandstand (it seems more they're laughing with my skills), now I'll have an extased crowd jumping away the last second when I'll arrive at 30 km/hr with my Honda Beat :O

in terms of 3d wheels, they're able to do it because pd once said that they managed to increase vehicle detail via high quality textures while reducing the poly count. by doing this, other graphical elements can be added without any visual sacrifice to the cars. In the 3d community, people are being hired by being able to create highly detailed cars with very low poly counts since that is everything now...learned that when i was considering getting into the field. Leaving 3d animation as a hobby now since i realised i wouldn't be able to do it daily and still be sane

KY has mentioned that animated crowds will feature, the NSX pic and the GT40 pics are different the GT40 was part of an FMW sequence (and square is'nt the only company to use FMV in games), the NSX pic is just a single pic probably taken from a workstation, the rally scene is rendered for promotional purposes, the graphics engine is pretty much completed now, any tweeks would be the crowds being animated, they would still be 2d but wave their arms or somthing like that, and othe little effects like backfiring etc. And that pic of the Delta isn't asas the NSX or Focus rally car pics, look at the picture closley. If Cobragt really wishes to believe the PS2 can handle such amazing graphics yet as pointed out before struggle to put just 1 extra car on the track per race, and thats using the GT3 engine which isn't using as many resources as the GT4 one let him belive it, it's not us who will be dissapionted.

In the pistop view, doesn't the third peson from the left have a fuel hose over his shoulder?

Yep.

some good shots, the first looks like an pre-rendered FMV Seqeunce, most of them do, but the game should look great regardless...

Umm. from what I've heard and gather, they are gonna have animated crowds in the rally stages. I've seen a clip of a ingame shot, of an Impreza going roud Grand Canyon with spectators in the middle of the road taking pictures and then running off the track. That vid is posted somewhere here. Though the very first shot IS FMV, it's quite blatent. Don't know about the pit crews though.

animated crowds? why would they do that? some motion i can understand, because it is funny to see all those cardboard cutouts when you come to a complete stop. when i whiz down the straight at Grand Valley at 180, i'm thinking about braking points, braking pressure, and not eating dirt on the other end. if you're looking at the crowds, then you're playing GT:Grandparents - The Real Sunday Driving Simulation

Tell me do you really take video games that seriously?

I just kick ass in all GT games, I can't wait to get online, from what I've seen Famine seems to be one of the better drivers and maybe I will get to race him.
