I really enjoy GT5, it lived up to the hype for me and whatever you hate or misundersand about the game wont make me think otherwise.
I enjoyed GRID for its arcadeyness, Shift was an utter pile of crap.
I 2nd this. Had a ton of fun in grid once I realized the stability control on/off was backwards. When I put it "on" the cars handled just well enough to suspend disbelief and really enjoy some racing (stability control IIRC made the car suffer from undrivable understeer). At first Grid had some of the FFB issues that plauged Shift, but careful tuning of the settings made it go away...not saying it's great, but I stopped having a problem with it. After all even F1 2010 doesn't have great FFB.
Shift on the other hand just felt sooooo wrong. Seriously the cars were rotating around pole stuck in the roof, and so they never did what I expected them to do. And of course, I'll never forgive/forget the ffb tugging left, right, left, right ad infinum as I tried to drive in a straight line...might have something to do with that pole stuck in the roof, no?
