Okay, WTF is up with the GT Kart Championship 125 Shifter??

I found my own little trick to beating the third race of the championship:
Set your throttle to the X button, and just rapidly tap the X button as you are going around corners.
Worked well for me, hopefully it works for others too!

This is by far the most infuriating thing I've encountered in years! I don't know what the heck I'm doing wrong. I mean, I know it's me because some people seem to have no trouble at all. I didn't have much trouble with any but the GT Arena. I've tried the GT Arena no lie for probably 10 HOURS! I can't keep that damn thing from spinning out. Even on that last turn before the straight. I've tried top speed all the way left for more quickness. I've tried all the way to the right for less torque. Mostly I have it at 93. I'm seriously about to lose my mind! I don't remember being this POed at a game since I was a little kid!

It isn't just you. Lots of people have had trouble with this event. I'm a little suspicious of those who claim to have found it easy.

93mph is the ideal speed. If you are spinning out, take the corners with a higher gear.

I FINALLY DID IT!! For crying out loud!
I'm wondering if the people who did it that easily have a steering wheel? Maybe that makes it easier? Because that GT Arena is Flippin ridiculous. I had absolutely no problem with the other races but that Arena just seems too hard. And Grand Turismo is definitely one of, if not my favorite PS franchises. I'm not saying I'm the greatest racer or anything but I've been playing it since GT3. I've never struggled with anything in GT like I did with that track.
Well, thanks for all the tips.

The reason people are having so much trouble is that they're not driving the karts as they need to be driven instead of the way they want to drive them. Karts are about driving the way you should be which means keeping tight lines, using braking points that result in you being set up to hit the turn apex, and keeping your momentum high. Karts are not about jumping curbs and barreling into turns, and sloppy driving technique.

It may sound like I'm being condescending but I'm not being that in the least. This is the truth of the matter. If you use proper driving technique and reign in tendencies to over drive the turns then suddenly the event's not that difficult. It's a bit of a challenge but it's actually quite fun once you apply proper driving technique.

The main problem that I had was keeping the kart from spinning out. Even with feathering the throttle as lightly as possible. The outdoor tracks weren't that challenging. It took a few tries to get used to the handling of the karts. But it wasn't too bad. The indoor tracks on the other hand are WAY more difficult. A big part of the challenge is that the tracks are so short that you really have to push the kart to its limit to catch up. And there is zero room for error. One slight misstep and you're hopelessly behind.
I know it was something I was doing wrong, or not doing. But I don't think it was as simple as not taking the right line. And I definitely wasn't cutting corners or anything like that. The main thing was pushing it hard enough to be in position to pass at the few passing opportunities, which have a VERY small window, but not spinning out. It just seemed those karts, on the indoor circuits, are WAY too prone to spinning out. That was my struggle.

The trick with these races is to be nice and smooth with your inputs. These things are quite grippy, and are capable of carrying a bunch of speed through corners.

Hopefully this will help some people out.

is this event easier with a controller or wheel?

That's hard to say. Probably a little easier with a wheel (if you're used to using one all the time) but I didn't have any issues doing it with a controller (though I do use an XBox 360 wired controller for Windows on an USB adaptor to the PS3.)

I did it on the wheel... It wasn't easy but I found it very enjoyable and golded the Arena in about the 5th try. I use Fanatec CSR-E and ClubSport pedals so I may have an advantage. As I've been puzzled for a long time why people want to use ABS -1 when I run all assists at 0 with no difficulty... Must be the LoadCell brake pedal I guess. Also having raced Karts at a few indoor tracks and some faster ones at Thruxton may have helped.

If you think this is frustrating ... I remember playing GT1 back in '98 and trying to complete all the licences... The final S licence was a lap of the Special Stage Route 5 in a Dodge Viper ...

I spent every evening for 6 weeks getting within a hundredth of a second of the bronze time... so couldn't progress.

Then, one day, for no discernible reason I hit a sweet spot and golded it on my first attempt of the evening!

Not long after that my wife decided to move all of our Crash Bandicoot saves onto a separate memory card and managed to delete my entire GT1 & ToCA Touring Cars saves! And you have no Idea how long it took me to progress past Oulton Park on ToCA!!!

She is still alive & we are still married.... Somehow

I have one star left to earn, and it's the damned GT Arena and these karts. I'd been stuck at 9th for weeks when suddenly yesterday I finished 8th, then 7th, then 6th, finally placing 3rd. I've got 750 miles on my kart, but I can see light at the end of the tunnel.

I use a wheel and it only took me a try or two. I used stock settings and drifted around most of the corners at GT Arena. For some reason I slide around certain corners faster than trying to drive around them sensibly.

Possibly a defective card? I lost a couple of saves that way. She must've felt horrible because it sounds like she's a bit of a gamer as well so she'll likely know and understand that particular feeling of loss.

The kart seriously needs driving aids; TCS, ABS everything! The AI karts are faster than mine even with the settings and tips given by eSZee but no use. Been rammed to oblivion more times than I can retry.

Screw this; I'm not touching the karts anymore.

For the love of all that's holy... No!

What they need is patience and a deft touch. But if you don't like em treat em with the same contempt I have for Drifting... Quit wingeing about it & Just skip it.

I know GT comes in for a lot of criticism but isn't it great that there's such a wide variety of Motorsport culture to sample in the game that we have the chance to try out, learn about and grow to love/hate all sorts of genres that we wouldn't be able to without it. We can't all love it all, but we can choose what we want.

Same as we can choose to use driving aids or not if they are available on karts!

If it helps you guys, here's my best lap of GT Arena on the Shifter Kart. I haven't even done this event yet, mainly because I got bored of offline after I unlocked the IB events. :dunce:

The key to mastering these bad boys is to steer with the throttle. I can dab the throttle to help the kart rotate through a turn when experiencing understeer. Also don't be afraid to use the kerbing on the left at the end of sector 1 before the hairpin.

I was stuck on this one, but wasn't going to let it beat me - I finished 2nd, 1st, 2nd always 10pts shy of the Championship. Though that was after many attempts to even get past the SpaceKart track :banghead:.

Following tips on here I finally won it last night (2nd, 1st, 1st = YIPEE), after about 20 attempts - still struggled with SpaceKart 🤬. Ballast to the back of the Kart 10Kg, and some drifting around some of the corners (I despise drifting as I can't do it when needed), tapping 'X' on corners and generally learning not to hammer to hard.

I'm usually a FIFA player, but I'm learning! It maybe a long stressful road, but I'm willing to take it on, along with tips from these forum pages :gtpflag:

Took me a bit longer than other events.

1. smooth inputs, don't accelerate until the wheel is almost straight
2. turn the wheel more, these corners are really tight
3. use 7kg ballast to bring the weight to 50:50
4. geared for 130kmh (one tick from the shortest gears)
5. used 3rd gear for tight corners

I finally beat all the shifter kart stuff with completely stock settings. I used a gamepad and feathered the gas through corners.
I'm just happy I never have to drive a kart again. Hopefully anyway, PD could add more kart events.......

Wash your mouth out!

I also have some problems in this championship, but the worst part is behind me. I won the 125 shifter championship. I was 1st,1st,2nd. But how to win the last race in GT arena? Im pushin really hard and my best was 2nd.
Any tunning tips or anything

What you're asking has already been covered in this thread and elsewhere. Read from the OP on, there are plenty of tips.

Finally did it and won in the GT Arena and then went back and won the championship. After 800 miles you'd think I'd become somewhat competent, and to those who insist learning to drive karts leads to better driving in cars, um, okay. Though I'm now pretty good with the karts (had little trouble with the non-shifter karts), I hope to never ever have to drive one again.
