Okay, WTF is up with the GT Kart Championship 125 Shifter??

To be honest, I did the kart championship yesterday and won it on the first try. I played a bit with the gear ratio, Brands Hatch was an easy win, Willow Springs I finished 3rd because I made two mistakes, and also at the Gran Turismo Arena I finished first and I was able to overtake the last cart at the 7th lap of the race. Yes, the S125 Shifter races are challenging, but doable. I drove with a wheel, I don't know how it is with a controller, but I think it would be harder with it.
I also wanted to ask if there are any changes before 1.03 at this championship because I won it relatively easy and maybe PD made it a bit easier, I don't know. I don't consider myself as a really good driver, so when I successfully finished it at the first try I was shocked so many of you had problems and I didn't.
Anyway, I made it and I'm happy about it :)

I beat it first try, drove my kart backwards half way through the race to make it challenging. You may need to get better at the game, OP..

juuust kidding! ;) It really is a finesse thing. I can't speak for a wheel because I used a DS3 to beat this but you have to be gentle with the steering, don't accelerate until you're in a straight line or you'll just spin out constantly. When I finally beat it I don't believe I made any changes to the gear ratios or ballast but I may have adjusted the steering sensitivity to be a tad slower to try to balance out the kart wanting to spin out all the time. The AI slows down about half way through the race and lets you catch up so you just have to be in a position to take advantage of this. Be fast and consistent esp through the corners.. and also be patient. You may want to give up about 2-3 laps in but like I said, the AI will slow down so you can catch them.

I don't like the kart races and I decided to not do them. The same goes for the rally racing.

Apparently the influence it has on your life is rather minimal: I've managed to find me a fantastic wife, make me two cute kids and find a great job. all without ever getting to 100% in any game.

Hard to believe, I know...

For me it was simply a case of dropping the top speed to max acceleration in the gear ratios. GT Arena still took a few attempts admittedly but the best advice I can give for that is to keep the image of the track layout in your mind and plan for the corner after the one you're on.

Anyone who hasn't spotted yet, it's the Twitter symbol turned on it's side...so just keep that in your head and it's a lot easier.

Other thing is: Use the track limits! If you dip two wheels onto the green outer section it really helps entering the final hairpin.

:)

Edit: Oops, was thinking of the standard IB 125 races. Still, may help someone!

 Very bad representation? No. Because to be frank, they haven't changed from GT5. I'm glad they've attempted to expand with them.

Enjoy their existence. Because I can't think of a game on a console that represents the existence of Karting. And the one game that does - does a very bad representation. Doesn't help that the Karts are purely fantasy, who knows. Maybe Pirelli designed the kart tires to make the races exciting and challenging, yet rewarding.
I realize that they haven't changed since GT5, they weren't any good in that either. I race karts, I would know how they handle, and they don't handle well in these games. No kart that is setup right and has just halfway decent tires on it will spin out as easily as they do in these games.

Yes, at this point i'm aware you race karts. I see you kind of went over my funny.

TBH, I don't have "spin" issues, or lack of grip. Not with my wheel set up. Only time I've spun with a shifter kart, or well any kart for the matter in the game is well... bouncing off a curb. They're fine to me. It's great fun.

I've decided I need to stop doing the shifter arena race b4 my ps3 and 40" tv end up three stories below. I've done it at least 50 times now and best I can do is silver (usually bronze) still about 1.5 seconds behind leader. Sux because it's the last star in the game that I need to get. I've tried all different settings and tactics listed here and elsewhere, I'm just not good enough lol. A few times I've watched the full replay with live timing info and they do slow down on laps 4-7 and I've gotten less than a second behind the top 2 cars but then they speed back up the last lap and I can't run them down. ****. I think the 2 or 3 times i managed silver it was only because i straight jacked the guy in one of the last corners to pass him lol.
Not sure this will help you or anyone else but here's how I won the Shifter Karts at the Gran Turismo track. Tough but possible.

I tried it 40+ times, too. When i changed to automatic transmission, i won it on the 5th try. The trick is, to drive smooth and fairly hard at the same time.

I finally did it lol even though i was dirty as hell the whole race. Was about .9 behind on the last lap and finally got behind him midway through but he skirted out of those final corners fast so i basically took a chance and got on the gas too hard and flew sideways into him just before the stripe and won by .165. It's been awhile since I've been this excited, I went all Hulkamania in my living room for a minute.

Here's three replays. I went a did all the races again (since I didn't save my original runs) with various transmission settings. These are NTSC (US) replays so I'm sorry to those using PAL in the EU but there's nothing I can do about that. I do not have a way to cap these runs in a manner that would allow you to actually see what's going on. Potato video I shall not make!

Anyway...

Brands Hatch:
This is the easiest of the bunch. Got Gold with both 112 and 118mph transmission settings. 112 is easier in my opinion. Work on nailing the 1st turn so you'll have max momentum up the hill before the next turn. Going wide or staying in tight here will really depend on traffic. Karts are so much about momentum that going wide is sometimes your best bet. Out in out on turn three. Full throttle for the 4 - 5 esses, staying wide for passing, tight if the way is clear. Stay a bit wide for turn in on the last turn before the straight but cut close into the apex.

Willow:
I only did this one with 112mph max speed. Due to the roughness of the track and the curbs you really need to keep on top of what you're doing. Typically dropping a couple tires off the track here is disastrous. Pass the majority of the field on the inside after the 1st turn but before the 2nd. Final chicane is a great place to overtake as well.

GT:
This was the one I ran to warm up and definitely the hardest of the bunch. Took me three or four tries before winning @112mph max. Did a few more, won a couple more times, lots of banging and rough stuff. Set the transmission to 99mph (you top out at about 88 or so on the longest straight so you might be able to go lower. 99mph was easier than 112 by a bit. Didn't go any lower but @99 I was able to take first in lap 7/8. Stay off the curbs here! Only the very flat curbs are somewhat safe to drive on. Karts have no suspension so curbs can cause major upset in the chassis. Only use the curbs when you have to otherwise avoid them like the plague.

Sark

The replays are in .ZIP files on my Skydrive as the boards will not allow me to attach the files (too large at 11-12mb each) to this msg. :(

REPLAYS

5kg ballast to the rear. Set trans top speed to 93.
This was how I finally beat the last race after failing the previous 40 times.

this is worth a try.. this is the only thing that is stopping me from closing out the National A&B series. will this work on the International series too ?

I only needed to do this for the GT arena final race in the shifter races.
All other races, the most I did was lower or raise the top speed.

That is funny! It doesn't matter how you win, at least with the AI, so congrats. I've done the Hulkamania a few times myself.

I still do it everytime I watch my replay of that GT Arena race.

It was such a satisfying moment.

Basically race number one for me:

*Approaching turn 1 on lap 2*
*Notices AIs behind me traveling at an unreasonably fast speed*
*Finally in the turn*
*Slammed off track just as I hit the apex*

"Well...... 🤬 that."
*Exits championship*

EDIT: Oh joy. I can't even try this championship again with help from others. I keep getting a message saying "This race cannot be started. The race information is invalid." because there are only 8 karts showing up in the grid list.

EDIT 2: I can't do ANY IA championship due to the SAME issue. Lovely.

Dan, hopefully you've backed up recently, because the same thing happened to me. I had a backup, but it wasn't as current as I'd hoped. I had to delete my current save and load the USB save, picking up from there. I attributed it to a corrupted save.

I found this (the third kart race in the GT area) the most difficult race in the entire game (so far). I spent an hour a day for the last few days trying it. I got silver loads of times, but catching the leader was a divil. It was particularly annoying because the leader goes faster the faster I would go. for instance, I came in second at 3.44. to his 3.43. Then when I got up to about 3.42, he'd beat me at 3.41.

I finally nailed it today - after three hours of trying! Whacked him on the last corner of the last lap.

I think the first lap is crucial. You really need to get up to about 8th place at the end of it. Also I agree the 93mph setting is best. Didn't use any ballast though.

I'm at the point where these are the only two stars I have left, and while I give it a go for 30 minutes or so whenever I can, I've resigned myself to the fact that I won't have those stars. I simply don't enjoy driving karts. I think there was a rally race back in GT4 that I finally gave up on, so I do have precedence for being a quitter. ;)

Seems like you've spent a long time at it but I'll give a tip or two anyway. Practice the track till you can see it in your sleep. Lay off the throttle unless you are perfectly straight. Go deeper into the corners than the AI, mostly the first three or four. If you're close enough, they'll hesitate so you can get by them. Stay off the edges. A couple aren't too bad but some can ruin your race. I posted a video farther up the line so watch it. Hey, if I can win it, you can too. Just don't try to win it on the first lap. Good luck!

That Kart event took me a few goes, but I wouldn't have called it hard.

The trick is to break hard and early, trying to keep really tight to the corners as fast as possible without going wide. It may feel like you're going slower, but I was catching up to the A.I a lot sooner than I was trying to take the corners fast and going slightly wide.

Got it on my 4th try I think, the first two are ok if you know the tracks well enough, the final race however was a real b!tch. I dropped the gear ratio down to 160kph max and got as many as I could on the first corner. After that focused on getting them under brakes and on the final fast right sequence. I ended up just wining by getting the 1st place guy round the outside on the last corner absolutely on the limit! Was ****ting bricks that I wouldn't get past him but the grin on my face at the end of it was worth the frustration. If all you do on GT6 is race on RS tyres in modded cars this will be difficult.

I just won all three races on the first try.

As suggested, I set the transmission top speed to 93 MPH at GT Arena and used automatic transmission for the championship. I think I won by nearly a second in the third race.

Thanks, :gtpflag:!!!

Automatic transmission, engine overhaul for more power, gears and ballast stock.
Got 1th place @ end of lap 6.

This event was an absolute pain in the ass. But, I managed to win eventually. It's all about being smooth. I know I adjusted the transmission settings and did an engine overhaul. Took me some hours to complete the last race (didn't have many problems with the other races).

This is by far the most infuriating thing I've encountered in years! I don't know what the heck I'm doing wrong. I mean, I know it's me because some people seem to have no trouble at all. I didn't have much trouble with any but the GT Arena. I've tried the GT Arena no lie for probably 10 HOURS! I can't keep that damn thing from spinning out. Even on that last turn before the straight. I've tried top speed all the way left for more quickness. I've tried all the way to the right for less torque. Mostly I have it at 93. I'm seriously about to lose my mind! I don't remember being this POed at a game since I was a little kid!
