For some reasons threads as old as two days keep coming up as "new" on my control panel. Any thoughts on this?

When you try to refresh the page, do the threads disappear?

nope, I have a thread that I was the last poster in on the 24th that is still showing up every time as new. I think this is also happening on the computer at work but I won't know for sure until later today...

Well, try logging out and clearing your cookies on both machines.

looks to have worked, I'll be able to tell for sure once threads start updating again. Thanks Jordan!

so this is still happening a fair amount at work, I understand why it happens when I'm on all day at work, then I go home to find posts still listed as new, but when I returned from lunch at work (I had already cleared cookies that morning) half the threads had been read already... How often should I have to log out to fix this?

I'm having an identical problem. Seeing as I don't want to clear all the cookies, or look for some specific ones to delete, I figured I'd check which ones are updated manually (which is why I haven't bothered reporting it, but seeing that others have the same problem...)
By accident I also discovered that the cookies on my computer, for this site, get updated after being logged on for several hours straight. Not sure how many hours, but I would guess about four hours, which is far more time than I usually spend here.

For your information, I'm using Firefox 2.0.0.7.

Every thread that's had a new post since the last time you logged in, (that does not include leaving the site remembering your password for next time) it will show as new. I have a thread from February that still says new because i don't actually log out.

In Firefox you can search for cookies. Log out of the site then go to Tools > Options > Privacy Tab > Show Cookies Button and then type in gtplanet into the search field, now delete all the ones that show up and log back into the site. Problem should now be solved. :)

Thanks for the tip.

BTW; I noticed some odd expiration dates in some of the gtplanet cookies. I mean, they shouldn't last 'til january, or even 2038 as some of them did, should they?

I can't explain those expiration dates. Have you noticed similar dates on other sites running vBulletin? As for the threads still showing up, it could definitely be a caching issue, especially if it's showing up at your workplace, land sea air. They could be running a proxy server, or your browser's cache settings could be a bit aggressive.

I haven't been on any other sites running vBulletin, but I do surf on sites running Invision Power boards, and these work as intended.

As for the odd dates; there's one named VM_USR (from gtplanet.us.intellixtxt.com) that lasts 'til August 2045, and one named _utma (from gtplanet.net) which lasts 'til January 2038. The other ones lasting a bit into next year seem to do with automatic login and last visits and such, so I'm not personally considering them a problem.
