What is the age of the older active sim racing enthusiast. Over 50, Over 60 or Over 70. I hope I'm not being too personal. I'm Just curious to know if I'm entering a second childhood or just experiencing a belated mid-life crises.

Well, you're never too old to enjoy yourself. It's a good thing you still have "an active" inner child. It keeps you young.

Sim racing is for all ages. I know of people in their 60 and 70 whom are still avid sim racers.

Hi there Kikki, I'm glad to hear there are others that agree that one is never too old to try something new.
I got on to sim racing at 73 and have not missed a day on my rig that I built. Love the action. Hope to race on line soon. Thanks for your response Kikki.
Cheers

Indeed Joe.

Which games (sims) do you have (play)? What kind of a rig do you have?

Hi Kikki
I race / play GT5 on PS3, I have not yet raced on line, but will soon. I first wanted to get used to
racing on my own, you know the opponents given by GT 5 before I enter a race on line. I don't want to make a total arse of myself. I've managed to gold all 60 licence catagories & the Monza Vettel challenge, so I'm coming along. I've posted a number of photos of my rig on the "sim racing hardware" forum. Its on the 2nd page towards the bottom and is headed
" As promised here's pics of my rig" Hope you like it!
Nice chatting to you Kikki
Cheers for now!

Hi Joe,

When you do decide to jump online, whether with GT5 or GT6, I'd like to point you here. While not the only online racing league you could try out, I know for certain we have at least one 70+ year old racer and the ages of others in the league vary from there, all the way down to teenagers and possibly younger. Since it appears you're in South Africa, the time slots we usually have events for may not fit your schedule, but you never know until you look.

I forgot to post a link in my previous post. Thought about it though.

@axletramp is older than time itself. I've heard that if you add up all of the ages of the people on the forum then you get half of his age.
@Danny

Yeah but I dont even think @axletramp even plays GT..

Therefor your example is null and void.

@Old Geezer was the oldest active racer I knew about, but I haven't seen him around for quite a while! He is 60+ now.

I know a lot of PC sim racers over the age of 40 and 50. In fact, I've found that most people on GTR2 and Rfactor are.

*Quickly covers up all the niggles of pain around his body...* Hahahaa you have back pain!

I don't know everyone's age in my room (no mics), but the regulars are mostly older. Lots of 30's and 40's, some 50's and at least one in his 60's. I don't think you ever out grow racing.

Strange.

Older men still seem to enjoy playing with cars. In this case, virtual cars. But I don't know one older female in her sixties that still plays with dolls/barbies. And no, collecting dolls doesn't count. :p

You are aware that Barbie has thousands of outfits, shoes, cars, horses, pets, holidays and houses, aren't you?

I think you can see where I'm going with this… ;)

Hi again Kikki
Did you manage to view the photos I posted of this old geezer's rig. Posted in Sim Hardware. Let me know what you think.
Cheers!

Yes I did. I think this is your rig? You build it from scratch? In that case, I'm very impressed, and I mean that. I thought you bought this sim cockpit. Since you made it yourself, and it looks like a mass production from a respected race-sim-cockpit builder, it changes everything, in a positive way.
The first time I read your thread, I only looked at the pics and didn't read the text and only found out, just a minute ago, that you build it yourself.

It looks 👍.

Hi Kikki, I'm glad you like it, You will see that the basic chassis & frame is like the Vesaro, I just altered the front of the chassis to accommodate the woofer & console & widened the front again in case I wanted to add the actuaters at some stage. So as not to make it look exactly like the Vesaro, I added the little extras, like repositioning the speakers, added roll bar, inverted the pedals, added a foot well, added dummy exhausts, stainless foot plates. I am busy with a plinth for the rig as we speak which I think will finish it all off very nicely. I'll post a pic when it's all done. I can tell you that the cost of the rig with all the extras including the plinth I'm building is only a fraction of the cost of a Vesaro.

Nice chatting to you Kikki

There must be someone older. Not sure, though - but there were guys in their seventies (no gals yet to speak of that old) who were hauling ass here years ago - so they must be in their eighties now.

There could even be a nonagenarian kicking away at the pedals somewhere deep in the belly of this vast, vast, GTPlanet.
You have to know your way around here - or you would get lost. A little pit-stop reading between laps, helps.

Good luck - and keep adding those beautiful miles to your mind. :)

If you gold the licences and beat the Vettel challenges (gold?) then you have some real skills, and they say Michael Schumacher is too old! I suppose you're never too old if you have the passion and enthusiasm!

I would imagine that I'm possibly the oldest female sim racer on here, at 52. My partner, who also races, is 57. We may not be Vettel standard, but we have a hell of a lot of fun. :D

That's fantastic! and you're absolutly right, sim racing is a load of fun and it keeps one out of mischief too. Keep it up you two.
