i've just won 4 650pp races at suzuka in a row with my Impreza wrx 07 ... even against tuned lotuses, but the others haven't been any good drivers i guess since my lap times were something about 2:12s .
was a lot of fun though! :)
doesn't the aids just slow you down more than anything? i have ABS on 1 but the others always off, also cant stand the standart physics they should've let them out imo, afterall its prologue so things will change a lot anyway( i really loved the SIM tyres in GT4 or 3?)

Well, I guess if we're talking about realism, then isn't this situation about correct? The Elise is a relatively low-powered, tunable, light, incredible handling car in real life. More than once I've heard it called the best handling production sports car ever made. This has always been a Lotus speciality, the handling. If you do a You Tube search you can find some great (real life) examples of Lotus machines ripping the heck out of the competition in the bends. It isn't at all unusual to watch other cars sprint head of a Lotus on the straights, only to be overtaken and beaten by the Lotus in the corners.

I mean, everything I've ever seen or read about this car says that it really is just that darn good. If nothing else can compete with it in the game, well, there is a reason for that... Yes?

they should have an elise 111r one make challenge with a 750PP class, after the damage update has been installed that is! :D that would be utter chaos. i would love to just download or see a replay of it.

Problem is that most cars cant beat it in a straight line either.

Just read the news that online events are normally updated every thursday at 4am CET.
Didn't see it before because of the 3 news items above it.

Well, on topic, I think you can't blame the car.

It is the best choice, so until they create different rooms with different rules, you have to live with that, and you have 2 choices. Race it or be beaten by it.

Tired of being rammed by those "mosquitos" and having trouble finishing 3rd, I decided to buy one. After a bit of tweaking, and a few races with the same drivers, not being aggressive and ignoring their er... "mistakes" gained me some respect and eventually ended up doing some 10 races fighting fair with a couple of them for the lead (and winning many of them). This deserves some merit. These guys were fast, had a good setup, and we had some great fun.

It's no different from racing the beginner ring with 10 other Integra type R. What I found it's that there are a lot of corner cutting "overdrivers" trying to get the fastest and easiest way to win, and use the elise (badly) for it, getting unfairly ahead of you, thus giving it a bad rep.

But there are a lot of idiots in all events. And most keep crashing because don't know how to decently setup the car, or to drive it "as is". So get one, setup it up correctly and enjoy it, or race on a different event.

And the latter is the big problem, the fun races (650 pp) are all filled with the elises! PD has to create some races where it cannot enter while other cars like the Ferrari's can. It's so annoying not to be able to keep up with an elise where irl the elise would struggle to keep up with a good set up Ferrari.

In the jpn spec I (one) version we had events that were limited to certain cars. In this way the Elises could now be excluded from some races. I just wonder what the favorite bashing car will be in those races.....;)

Granted. Meanwhile... we should try to make the best of what we got. :)

In reality, a good driver (Not even a great driver) in an Elise (Lets not even bring the Exige into this) would put the typical Ferrari driver to shame with little trouble.

Thats not to say it would even be a flat-out victory, but if you've ever been chased by a Lotus, you know what I'm talking about.

Spot on.... 90% of the folks on here will not believe you thou. In REAL life it would be a easy race for a 111R against most cars in this game.

The sad truth :(

The few chances I've had to race and auto-x the 111R (Yes, in reality ;) ) left me absolutely speechless. I couldn't believe what I was capable of and how handicapped it made other cars look.

Even the car is quick IRL,it's still a mixed of a gokart and normal fast car.Thats why I can't stand it.Put insted a kart with 250cc engine in the game,I would by that.Until they increes the PPs, I'm not gona be the proud owner of that car.

If its available in Arcade mode, I won't buy it. As long as I can do free-runs in it, I'll be happy.

Gimme a normal 111R. IMHO, it is pure motoring nirvana.

The 'Arcade' mode is more of a free run sort of thing, you choose your car in your garage as normal, and instead of going to an event, you go to Arcade, where you choose track etc.

Basically, you'll have to buy it to drive it in GT5:P

I went online for the first time yesterday. Tried an Elise 111R at the Highspeed Ring.

My impressions:

Loads of people who are not in the least interested in driving as if it was real.

For example, I was leading on numerous occasions at the end of the banked section. When I slowed (yes, slowed – even in an Elise) for the left hander, I was regularly smashed into by Beemer 1 series, etc. who were simply pedal to the metal to wipe me out or/and bouncing off the barriers. What is the point?

The star prize for "fairplay" must go to the cretin who, as I was coming up their lefthandside to take first place, tried to punt me into the pit lane.

I felt it was "open season on Elise" although I was simply concentrating on taking a good line and keeping out of trouble. Never got better than second – often around 10th after being deliberately knocked out.

Anyone can overcook it and end up spinning out – perhaps inconveniencing another car – that's racing! You have to watch out for the mistakes others make. But going online with the aim to cause crashes and take others out is just sick!

The way I look at it, if you don't like the fact that the Elise dominates online, use a different car. It appears to me that the Elise is like a sub-machine gun in a FPS game. If you are tactical and intelligent, and skilled as well, you can defeat them with a different weapon. Not only will you get your satisfaction when you do defeat them (but 90% of the time you probably won't), but you will humiliate them and force them to re-think their strategy. You might get a few laughs as well. In FPS games like MOH, there is nothing more satisfying than beating a bullet-hose with a rifle. I will attempt to replicate this experience in GT5P.

Shame we can't bash people with rifle-butts in this game.

Ever seen Grease? They had this race in a huge water drain where the bad-guy's car wheels were equiped with shredders. That would do the thick just nicely, won't it? :sly:

I do love FPS games (Half Life and Counter Strike in particular), but mixing racing and shooting would upset some of our japanese friends I'm afraid. Nice twitch though. :)

mmmmmmm mp5 <3 cod4.....

But yes. I wish microphones were enabled so I can yell and cuss about how retarded people who deliberately crash are!

Lotus is a track car. Everything about it is screams track. So if people here are frustrated that a track car is beeting people online, that is really sad. Lotus=Track...end of story. Either learn how to drive it to stop playing this game.

Thing is, it shouldn't be beating them on the straights like it is.

Cool vid. Its an S1 and if I remember correctly its not quite stock, its also driven by a very experienced driver. I'll see if I can dig out the original details.

Whilst I am certainly no expert on the elise, I've been fortunate enough to own an s2 exige for the past 4 years and try to make half a dozen track days a year depending on how often the missus falls for the pleading to go out and play.

There is no way the tuned elise is realistic !

Really shouldn't be able to make the car any lighter as there's nothing left to take off it. Could add carbon fibre but that would just be silly and wouldn't lose much from a car made from the same materials as a robin reliant.

Max power of 336 also seems rather optimistic. with forced induction even 300 is pushing it. More like 280.

Think the scaling of tuning needs investigating and capping in places.

It does have a bit of a reputation as a giant killer but the way its portrayed in GT5 is as if every manufacturer should just give up and make an elise instead.

I thought the interior looked a bit different.

http://www.forcedfed.com/elise.html

http://www.secantvehicles.com/ <-This might be pushing it since its a swap, but seeing as that engine isn't modified (To my knowledge at least), I'd say 336 isn't too far away.

;)

The stereo gives it away, its really really pants instead of just plain useless.

First link = 275
Second link = 280

You're right that the engine isn't significantly modded however Yamaha already do a good job of building the Toyota block to squeeze the most out of it.
Most elise owners who want big horses end up dropping either a type-r or Audi engine in, which suggests thats there's not much headroom left in the zzz-ge

^ No doubt. The 2ZZ is probably my favorite engine ever. But like you said, its just about maxed in terms of reliable NA power...

...hence the Secant link ;) That motor can make over 300 pretty easily IIRC.

What I want to see is one of those Audi swaps you mentioned, that would be absolutely ridiculous.
