Online Knockout Mode

If this is defined as a series of races over an extended time period, rather than having to be in one session, I'd support this.

But if everyone has to hang around waiting for the grand final, then I'm not so sure.

I can see this working well amongst a group of friends if they can run this asynchronously with other events.

What I mean is that a group of friends would set up this event and run it. At the end of the event, the survivors would agree on a time to regroup, and then the full group would get on with the next social experience.

As I write this, I can see there is actually no reason why this can't be done informally by a self-policing group.

Sorry, I sometimes have a bad habit of thinking with my mouth open. If you don't like this, please ignore me!

If 10 people enter knockout mode then there will need to be 9 races in a row at different tracks. Maybe less if someone disconnects or quits.

Yes it could work within a group of friends, but I think for the most part it will be easier to have the game handle everything so its just easier to jump in with a group of 15 or 16 strangers

This is similar to what NFS had, and called it the same thing. The only difference is in NFS "Knock Out Mode" was a race of 8 players and the race would be set to 7 laps. Each lap, the driver in last would be knocked out of the race, until there was winner.

Need for Speed is where I got the idea. I believe it varies through each game, but in NFS II the last place finisher was eliminated. To hurry things along maybe 2 or even 3 drivers can be eliminated at the end of each race.
