The lounge is open for the final Silvia race, qualifying will start at 8:00 pm EDT. If we don't get enough people for a points race we might bust out some karts instead. :sly:

On my way Jose!

Been trying to get this posted all day. Hopefully things are back up for good now but it's very understandable that they're having problems.

Anyway, I made the terrible mistake of driving a kart around Motegi before the race and when I got in the Silvia it felt very foreign to me and I couldn't keep it on the track. After one lap I had spun twice and was completely out of sight of the rest of the field, my race as finished.

I made the mistake of playing iRacing before GT5... Nice come back after the off DSG

:tup:Congrats to Carr, for being the SUPREME ORCA Champion:gtpflag:!

I enjoyed running with you guys. Well run Series by BrandonW:tup: Hopefully I can join another series with all of you. Good clean racing!:) Some more practice and I may be running up front! MAYBE!:sly:

Great job carr. Great job Brandon. I'm glad to be racing this series. What's the plans for next season?

Not sure yet, but I'd like to do something different. I have a few ideas floating around in my head but I haven't really settled on one yet.

What's something you'd like to see? Something you haven't seen done or haven't seen done properly? What's something that attracts a big crowd but doesn't require a ton of strict commitment? I'm open to ideas.

Yeah, we need to lobby Brandon for abs=off, and even then the approach to braking will still be very different, but less so.
Congrats again.

Thanks all.

ABS off in GT5 is so lifeless in telling the lockup point. I have yet to lock up the brakes in iRacing (outside of the oval race I was in when a guy was clipped into me )

That's the closest I could get to describing iRacing's braking, GT5 abs off and then some. It's a very different feeling, switching back to GT5 I bet you feel like you're abusing the hell out of the brakes!

Yep, in GT5 we can trail brake in crazy ways with ABS "ON". Everything is different in the dynamics of trail braking over at iRacing. I'm not good at in "simple" corners in GT5 but give me a long bend with a need for very tricky braking and I'm much happier. You can't do that in iRacing though :grumpy:

I'd like to see an RX-7 TC cup. It's got a little more speed than the Silvia, but not enough to completely abandon the close racing we have seen with the Silvia.

I would be open to running no ABS; however, I will continue to compete either way.

It seemed like there was quite a bit of interest in karts, and I do kind of like the idea of running a kart series. There are several good tracks now for the karts, I think all versions of Motegi (with the possible exception of the West course) are very good for them so I shouldn't have a problem finding tracks for us to run them at. I kind of want to do some real kart racing next year so getting some virtual practice in wouldn't hurt at all.

Some other ideas: recreate real-world races, the last week of each month could see a nearly full-scale replication of a famous real-world race. The first three weeks of the month could be used for practicing with the car at different circuits and possible a week of open single-car qualifying.
Or maybe PP based no-tuning racing, set PP/tire/drivetrain restrictions and leave the rest up to drivers, run what ya brung.
Most of the rally cars are very closely matched and in my testing if we set a PP of around 475-490 the majority of them all run nearly identical times. Can't paint rally cars but there are enough of them in the game to have a very diverse looking grid.
I haven't race any low-powered "vintage" cars in a while but I thoroughly enjoy them and wouldn't mind doing something with them. We'd have to use mostly Standard cars but I don't have an issue with that.
I still would like to try my idea for a proper stage-based, timed rally. I see there is another group doing something very similar to it now, I do think it would be fun but it would have to be limited to 6 or 8 people at the most (with recent attendance that wouldn't be much of a problem).

Lots of ideas! We kind of have to decide if we want fun racing or realistic racing, in my eyes it's mostly one or the other and personally I'm ready for some fun racing. 👍

Like the idea of karts, think there would be some pretty intense races with this group...

Definitely like the idea of "set PP/drivetrain/tires, limited to restricted tuning" racing... Been doing some parity racing with JP, TrackBound and Cote for the last few weeks using a concept of run what you brung and tune it to achieve a predetermined time on set tire compound, and it's made for some of the best racing I've been involved in with GT5. 👍 👍 👍

You've mentioned the rally car thing before, it always sounds like fun...

And the classic/vintage or even standard cars on comfort tires... That format always seems to make for close racing.

A bit off topic, but here's a video I slapped together from the SCCA Halloween Solo event. Enjoy!

You like the those new apps don't you :sly:
Nice video, looked like a fun event 👍 Now I just wish they did that near my side of the country.

I do! I really love doing multi-media stuff like that and just being creative in general. I also get a huge kick out of doing that stuff on a cell phone, blows me away! Everything except the haunted house graphics at the very beginning was done entirely on the iPhone. I had to use Photoshop to place the demon car into the graphic but all the type was done with an app. :dopey:

There's no SCCA in your region?

Haha nice video production Brandon. I see some familiar names in the related videos; there are some casual GT5ers that you autocross with.

Not sure if there is a race tomorrow, but if there is I may be absent. I couldn't connect at all Tuesday, and last night I could not stay connected for more than a few minutes. There was a large internet cache that I emptied, but it hasn't remedied the situation thus far.

Car, in what general region of the country are you located?

Really? I hadn't noticed. Anybody that has raced with us?

Yeah there are a couple I've raced with in the past, but haven't been active of late. I don't recall racing with any of them here with ORCA.

I think we have something, hard to tell based on the site (closet thing they mention is a 3 hour drive).
I don't have a "car" for it anyway.

I have to drive a little over an hour to get there. Not too bad but makes for a full day.

Why can't you just use the Silvia? :dopey:

No matter where I run it amounts to around 2 hours one-way. One is 2 hours at speed through the woods and the other is 2 hours dragging through the city. Some events are further and become overnighters; but mostly only for multiple day events. Then there's the big show about 24 hours away.

Rally cars - 👍
Staged rally setup - 👍
But please keep it on the tarmac.

I can't go on dirt, wheel makes so much noise it disturbs my neighbors that live below me. Snow isn't too bad in small doses. So yeah, we'd stay on tarmac for everything.

Think it would be possible to get each person in the group to make their own custom Tarmac stages to run each week?

This makes ORCA kind of like a RallyCross series? I like that idea.

Yes, yes and YES! That would be great 👍 Last race of the season could be chosen by a vote for the best track?

The only problem with RallyCross is the increased amount of contact between cars.

I've done some Rallycross on Kart Space, and I must say that Kart Space is a great track for Rallycross

Nothing wrong with some occasional, or incidental contact, as long as there isn't any blatant punting or crashing going on... Just adds to the experience.

Actually my idea is to let the room randomly generate a track so everybody learns it on the fly. In real rally, rallycross and even autocross the drivers don't know the track like a typical circuit racer would so a random track that nobody knows would mind of replicate that. I've fiddled with it, the room only had minor control over creating the tracks. It's best to have a base track that has the elevation change, the road width and general length you desire and load that into the room. From the map screen you you can choose the number of sectors and complexity and let it generate the actual track layout on the day of the event. Thus, a random track that nobody knows!

We'd each get two or three practice laps to get a general idea of where any surprise are. Then the race would start but we all stay parked on grid, first driver goes at specified time, next driver goes 20 seconds later, and so on. Make the tracks long enough that we each take two laps (one out lap and a full flying lap) and if we keep it below six or seven drivers we shouldn't encounter any traffic. Add the multiplier to each drivers elapsed race time (2nd place +20, 3rd place +40, etc.) to decide actual time.

It's probably too complicated to work, if somebody goes 1-2 seconds early or late the calculated times would be off. But, it's a fun idea. :)
