Nobody? Guess I'll have to venture out into the public rooms........:nervous:

I may be on, but not for certain. I am a little worn after a late Saturday assembling a car to race yesterday.

Public rooms are fun sometimes. I love dropping in with a different PSN name and getting kicked after the first race.

As of right now, it seems that the other group I usually run in on Monday is experiencing a lack of expected attendance as well... So if only 2 or 3 show up as anticipated, I'll jump in here and run whatever... Beaters on comfort tires sounds like a winner to me, or we can trade some paint in rally cars.

What runs on Monday nights? Snail?

A parity racing group that JP, TrackBound Saga and Cote participate in... It's a good time.

Basically someone picks a track, a tire spec and a target lap time and the racers can pick any car and tune it as much or little as they want to meet the target without going under. Typically the specs are picked 5-6 days in advance to allow for proper tuning time.

First we do a couple of heats to fine tune PP to even things out more so, then we do two feature races... It's produced some very close racing, and gives you the freedom to run some outrageous cars/trucks/SUV's.

It's an awesome concept actually and a perfect formula for equal racing because you qualify to meet a target time with any car you want so obviously most guys will pick their favourite kinds of cars to race, detuned to meet the target. You can tune it or not but the best advice is to pick a car that you can be consistent with because you can bet just about everyone else will be consistent, so if you screw up a corner here or there it's tough to make up ground because the rest of the field can run the exact same potential laps as you can. Pacing yourself and being consistent really count and of course good racecraft is usually rewarded.

Unfortunately, I think due to the quickly declining popularity of GT5 in general, fields have generally only average 5-8 over the last few months, but even in small fields the racing is close. Most guys run without ABS as well, and some use the cockpit view and/or shifter. A link is in my sig below if anyone is interested.

Oh and congrats to Carr on another well deserved title

Anybody tried out the new update yet? It figures that immediately after our no pitstop parade of a season they put out an option to adjust the rate of tire wear. :banghead: Don't get me wrong, it's a very exciting feature and should be great for racing, it's just :banghead:

I plan on being in the lounge tonight sometime after 7pm EDT to test out the new features, feel free to join.

Haven't tried it myself, but the rumours are that online physics are now equated to the old offline physics. Slightly more grip and predictability but cars also move slightly towards understeer in their Spec version if the rumours are true.

Not sure if that's good or bad. Sounds like you still can't roll a car online though.

It's not the same, there is still a difference between online and offline.
And you still can't roll cars online. I checked that first off
We have more understeer now and they changed the way the "rear" of the car feels.

I may or may not be around tonight.

Jeez, it feels like people sticking around with GT5 from now on will be unpaid beta-testers for gt6 physics. Expect an update with new handling every month or two.

Somehow I still feel that's better than where we were a few months ago. It is kinda silly that just as a large percentage of players are starting to lose interest PD finally decides to add features we've been asking for since the beginning.

Well, I'm working from home today and it's not going well, so I'm gonna hop into the lounge for a half-hour to see what I think of the new physics.

I look forward to your report.

I have noticed a huge decline in folks signing on my friends list. Used to be every night there would be a dozen folks to race with, and now if two or three are online it seems exciting. I will probably always be on, albeit at my infrequent intervals.

All I can say that at least in the Silvia it is not a dramatic change. Yeah, I'd say there is a touch more grip in the rear now, so it understeers a hair more. And power-on oversteer is milder. Other than that - meh.
Tire/fuel depletion pace change is more significant. Did 6 laps around motegi with it set on "very fast", and spent about a third of tires and a quarter of the tank. Should introduce pitstop strategies for races on lower-grade tires. Sounds like a good change.

I do like that part. Now instead of arbitrarily making pitstops mandatory we can adjust the setting to make them necessary. If they could just give us these options for the slipstream we'd be in good shape.

I took my Civic RM out to Tsukuba for a test there. Just ran a 30 lapper there on the weekend and had beautiful tune on it. Car was complete rubbish today, plowed like a Caterpillar Bulldozer. Ride height was already at +25/-20 and even going to +45/-20, max settings, did not take it anywhere near the rotation it had on Saturday. 👎👎

Haven't tuned anything in ages, but I thought they "fixed" the ride-height thing being backwards, no?

I thought they did too, one or two updates before this one.

I'm in the Champ lounge mucking around, feel free to join. I'll put the restrictions at 410pp/FR/CS, run whatever you want.

Tire/fuel setting seems ok. I like the option settings for it. I ran until very close to empty, when I pitted it took about 50 seconds refueling in the pits.... kind of long no?? Why does it have to refuel soooo slowly?

Dumbed it down a little..didn't eliminate it completely. Previously a setting like +10/0 might have worked with the Civic. Last week it took around +25/-20. Now even +45/-20 doesn't work:nervous:

While +45/-20 is perhaps a bit extreme, in real life under almost all circumstances a FWD would be run with a lower rear ride height relative to the front. There are limitations as far as bottoming out the suspension or dampers, as well as strut cars having poor roll center dynamics, but in general a Civic should be more neutral throughout a turn with a lower rear ride height. If the game reflects this I would say that is accurate, but I haven't driven the new update yet. Having a higher rear ride height may make the car turn in better with less static weight upon the rear axle, it will also overload the front tyres much sooner in the turn maxing exit more difficult and hurting lap times. Again, I'm not sure how the game reflects this as I haven't done much tuning, but those are the effects in practice.

Good points, but my main thrust was to show that a perfectly tuned car on Saturday that qualified on pole and led every lap, now struggled at all points in the corner to rotate without changing a setting. I could take it into any hairpin and get the rear end to begin a slight drift and bring it back with a touch of throttle. And that was without ballast at stock weight distribution. Now it plows through the corner.

Offline physics always tended towards understeer relative to the same setup online and it seems now everything will be tending towards understeer. If you can tune it out and fix it that's cool, but I know from experience it is extremely difficult to tune out the understeer of some cars offline, without really radical settings. Your ordinary casual player will find FF's and many 4wd's a lot less fun to drive now...lol..not that they were a barrel of laughs before:sly:

That is unfortunate. I will try and get some time in later this evening if I can, but I may not get to until tomorrow. We'll just have to only drive 700hp Corvettes now.

So my idea for an all FF series wouldn't go over too well? :dunce:

Ford Focus RS '02 = Best (Most Neutral) FF car I've driven in GT5, even without any tuning.
