Ok we got DC'd. Then I got DC'd from online lobby selection.

Quitting game see what up

There's a bunch of weird stuff going on. Identical cars with different transmissions, different outputs, different aero. Something is amiss. Owens noticed as well, that some cars not only has the default aero changed as well as the transmission, but that the aero range of adjustment is also different.

My uneducated opinion on the topic is that there are several band-aids to the big problem that are being applied, and as such there are other side effects being noticed that are symptoms of the real problem. It is still a game. I still enjoy it.

Oh yeah, both Owens and I got the digital boot from the lobby at the same time it appears. Mine spawned several disconnected from server, contacting server errors, etc.

We all just got dc'd from the parity racing lounge... Sounds like serious business! :scared:

Perhaps some unannounced maintenance?

Just the usual shenanigans...we all got back in a few minutes later after a few tries and when I did get in, it loaded up much quicker than normal.

I haven't had that issue with the untuned/spec race cars. I did some testing the past week for a non-tuning GT500 series and set the lobby to no-tuning and had no problems with at least 5 different cars. I always go back and set everything to defaut before I take the car to the pits though because you never know what PD is doing to the settings when you aren't driving the car or it's brand new.

I admit I did not go to the individual components and reset them. Two of the cars I had just purchased and presumed they would be ok. First I had attempted to test another plan which I had high hopes for but failed miserably due to PD's very odd choices and it had me a bit flustered. So when I tried different settings and different cars and still couldn't get into the track it just made me more flustered and I neglected to actually check the pieces in question. I've heard other people say race cars can't get in under tuning prohibition and unfortunately this triggered confirmation bias instead of critical thinking. Oh well, I'll try again next time I can get to the GT5 machine.

How did the testing of GT500 no-tuning go? That's one of the things I wanted to test before I was thwarted. I would presume this would be easy to accomplish since the cars are supposedly very closely matched out of the box, but I've learned not to presume much with this game.

These dudes here just ran a full grid of GT500, no tuning, at Motegi and are running in a few days at Spa.

I couldn't make the race but I test drove a few cars and the cars allowed were very close, all within 1 second or so, but I believe the NSX's were at the fast end of that second and the rest at the slow end of that second. This was at the full Motegi, nearly a 2 minute lap, so that's pretty close in my books.

That kind of supports my theory that limiting drivetrain helps to balance the field. A MR car is likely going to be the fastest in a group of mixed drivetrains so people will naturally gravitate towards them and you end with a field full of NSX's.

GT500 EPSON NSX. it drives like crap with no tune on race Hards. Not at all enjoyable.

Broken game. NSX now pushes. Ok MR cars drive and steer. That's why they are MR.

Game is junk. Period. Argue all you want. I base my thoughts on a game that kinda acted like real cars to now actin like the cars are FWD on snow. Push push push. I am slowly falling out of GT5 at 2.09. Like if no update to fix this wretched physics change I'm not sure how long I will play it. We are at the point Need for Speed is as much fun. How pathetic.

^ That's a bit dramatic, we're nowhere near NFS (lack of) physics. Had you never driven GT5 cars prior to 2.09 I doubt you'd have the same conclusion. Humans are by default resistant to change and our first instinct is to resist it, yet more times than not we overcome the change with little-to-no effort. And, almost all cars manufactured today are designed to understeer as the boffins believe this is easier for an unskilled driver to control. If you're thinking about going to iRacing be prepared for a whole new world of understeer!

I have noticed very little change in the physics, so little that had I not heard about the changes I wouldn't even have known that anything changed. But, over the 6 months or so leading up to 2.09 I had driven a grand total of maybe 4 or 5 different cars and for the 2 months directly prior to 2.09 I only drove 1 car. So even if there was a drastic change I wouldn't have noticed. That's part of the reason I want to branch out and drive more flavors of cars. For somebody that's been playing the game nearly every day for two years I am very ignorant of what it has to offer. :dunce:

EDIT: Some people shouldn't be allowed to have gold chrome paint chips.

In a sprint yes, but in a longer race the GTR's, Lexus' and Supras tend to have more balanced tire wear and predictable handling. In the types of sprint races you're looking to run in ORCA the NSX's would probably be the go to car, but I prefer the GTR's just for the sound anyway. The trade offs that cars present aren't always apparent in shorter races, they only come into play in races of substantial length.

Haven't driven the Epson but generally I'd have to say the GT500 cars are more predictable and stable than they were before, with a tendency towards understeer that you have to tune out. They are much easier to drive on RH tires now than they were before, although not "easy" to get to the limit.

But no doubt, some cars are just broken now without having ballast as a tuning option available. I mentioned a Civic RM and Golf RM earlier and they are impossible to tune now without ballast which isn't an option in a min. weight series. Even at extreme settings like toe of -0.50/-1.00 they still won't rotate like they did before the update.

Coming from the guy who thought the Subaru TC didn't understeer in stock form:boggled: You probably don't realize the Silvia fits into the "mild understeer" category either..lol. I'd say you were right that you wouldn't have noticed. The changes on some cars are dramatic, as in many of the FF's, and in others more subtle. Overall the cars are easier to drive especially on street tires, but on average have moved towards understeer. And they wrecked the ability to fix this tendency with the ride height differential which seems to be essentially turned off and other tuning options seem very muted.

I still don't think the Subaru TC understeer's for me like it seems to for everyone else. And I never felt like the Silvia understeered for me either. But all that means is that my driving style must be different from the majority, and it didn't win me any races so it's not necessarily a good thing. :dunce: But that's odd because I generally think (since release day) that almost every car in the game plows like a tractor.

I only raced the Impreza once with you guys, but I remember no understeer and I absolutely crushed in the race I did. Must be a G27 thing. ;)

It very well could be, due to the very good brake pedal (compared to the DFGT). Understeer can be a result of too much weight transferring to the front wheels which is often dictated by the amount of brake being used and the G27 pedal lets us have a little more control over that.

I've often wondered if it was a wheel thing or not and it very well could be. I have modified my brakes and they are light years ahead of stock but I'm sure the G27 is better still. Could also be a perception thing as the definition of under or oversteer isn't universal and we each have our own preferences.

I think driving style plays a part too. It's all about how the car "feels" IMO.

I agree, and also with what JP said about what we perceive as one or the other. Just like a tune that is great for one person may be rubbish to another.

But I can also attest that modified DFGT pedals don't really compare to unmodified G27 pedals, not to mention modified ones. I can trail brake with so much more precision on these pedals and that makes a world of difference.

How are the G27's without ABS? Be great if the brakes were programmable so you could use 100% of the brake pedal for 50% of GT5's no ABS brake strength. I keep telling myself I'm going to upgrade my wheel at some point..but then I have my doubts about whether it's worth it or not...lol. Too bad I don't have any real life friends that race so I could test out their equipment!!

On a side note, I discovered cockpit view while using no ABS recently...pretty awesome...lol.

Edit. Waste of time and effort.

Meh, I agree with Jeff. The 2.09 update took this game one step in the direction of an arcade. Too much grip in the rear now. The only cars that don't annoy me in stock form - are MR and RR ones.

I don't like too much grip in the rear so if that is the case then I agree it's a step in the wrong direction. As I said, I haven't played it enough since the update so I'm just not aware of it. I've also been driving cars I'm not familiar with so I probably wouldn't know if they have more or less rear grip than before. Sounds like the future of GT5 racing might not be too rosey.

I'm hanging on hoping they see the problem and we get an update soon.

I will say that cars on Comforts and Sport tires with no aero have felt pretty decent. Not nearly as pronounced as my Calsonic. Also not I've got in hundred thousands of miles in this car. Its one I know very well. It's ruined I tell ya. LoL truthfully a bit heart broken and mad over it. It's simple fact I don't enjoy the drive like I did before. I bet a tuned NSX is pretty nice though. They was real over steery before. Tuning them out was simple as lower front rd ht. However maybe with this update and tuning the car will be awesome. From the Epson NSX no tune test. Not looking promising as it was pushy. Before 2.09 That car stock could be spun mid turn with more wheel input. Which is realistic IMO. Race cars are loose. Loose is fast. We don't have loose anymore.

I've got access to GT5 on a prior update with my old G27 rig attached. I'll go there this weekend and try some stock cars. Possible filming action if it's like "that".

I think Comfort and Sports tires are where it's at now. On Race tires cars are way too stable now it seems. Maybe makes for better racing and bringing the field closer together, but lessens the challenge and thrill quite a bit. I guess that's what you call arcadish...lol but I enjoy the street tires a lot more now than I did before. Good racing to be had in the 400-500 PP range on CS and SH tires, 500-600 on SM and SS tires.

A lot of the testing I've been doing since the update has been on CS or SH tires so perhaps that's why I haven't been able to notice the differences other people are seeing. However, there is a noticeable change on the CS tires and IMO it's a good one. The cars feels more connected to the ground and the loss of grip is very progressive instead of going straight from 100% grip to 0% grip like flipping a switch. It's actually quite enjoyable in the mid-to-low powered FR cars.

I don't know what everyone's holiday plans are but I plan on being on GT5 this evening to do some testing and see if I can get some race cars on the track.

My thoughts exactly unless you get a car that has 600+ horsepower.

Sports softs...lol...

I've driven a few cars in the 550-600PP range on SS tires since the update. Zonda C12, Ford GT, Cadillac Cien etc and they were much more driveable. I think there should be some spec supercars that would be fun to drive on SM's or SS tires. DSG will want Sport Hards or Comfort Softs of course...lol...he practices with wooden wheels...:sly:

I'm going to mess around in the lounge for a bit.

Edit: 575pp FR race cars on SS tires are rather nice. 👍

Double Edit.

Here's some homework everyone can do over the Thanksgiving break.....well some of us. :sly: Pick a track, set your room for 575pp/FR/SS/tuning prohibited and test 5 or 6 race cars from your garage. Do about 5-8 laps in all of them and see if they turn similar lap times. Tonight I drove the following cars around Nurb GP/D and they were +/- .1 second of each other.

Astra Opel TC
Astra Super TC
M3 GTR Race Car
CLK TC
RX-7 TC

Those 5 cars alone would make up a rather nice racing class but I bet others will be similar too. I tried AWD Audi A4 TC and was 1.25 seconds slower, it could be a handicap car you have to drive if you win too many. :dunce:
