Hi guys. I have this for a pc and would like to know if it's enough for pc race games like iracing or anything else.

Velocity micro edge mx 225.
Q9550 quad core 2.8ghz per core.
9800 GT. 512mb. Pcie.
8 gb ddr2 800 ram.
1tb 7200 rpm sata 2.
20. 5" monitor.
DFGT Wheel.
Win 7 64 bit home premium.

I'm also wondering what racing pc games there are? I know of iracing and gtr2 which is very old. I'm curious about others.

I'm interested in single player and online. I don't want a monthly fee but don't mind if it's a fun easy enough game.

I'm also interested in demos.

If you don't want the fee, then if I were you I wouldn't do iracing and since GTR2 is old you should go more toward the rFactor route. Since rFactor 2 is coming out end of this year I'd get that. Also you don't have to worry about the fee. I'd also switch the wheel if I were you to get some better response when racing. Also the system sounds pretty good for a game like rFactor

You should tryout iracing. I think there is a 3 month deal going on now where you get 2 months free. If you don't like it, then just don't pay for it anymore. It's the best racing there is, nothing else even comes close.

I just started and I agree. If you like you don't have to spend tons. Just spend for what you need or want.

Easier said than done mind :P Once you start enjoying it, it becomes easy to start splashing the cash!

Get GT Legends, you can't go wrong 👍

Is my pc enough for these games?
Is there any single player mode or anything? Iracing seems like you practice single player and only if you finish goals will you get online.

I want lots of cars and tracks. GTR looks like it has only a few cars. Iracing sounds like you get one car at the start and then you have to buy the rest for at least a buck or more. Same for tracks. I don't remember though.

Ok Iracing isn't for you. Cars are 12 each.... Gt Legends or Rfactor would be my suggestions then.

You should have enough power to run most racing games. One game I can highly recommend is Race On. There's a vast modding community for it, so there's plenty of cars. Also as someone suggested, GT Legends is a great game.

Or even Grand Prix Legends. It has a huge community and is an awesome game... It is quite difficult though, so that might put you off.

Yep. I read the wikipedia grand prix legends page. Not for me at all. I bed id hate it. Sounds waaaay too hard.

From what I've seen it looks like all games are very old.

It's actually not too hard. My first flying lap around watkins glen was only 5-6 seconds off the fastest time of the actual race it is based on. And I'm playing on a keyboard.

It is difficult, but if you have any love for F1, you'll relish the chance to race cars from 1967 around the classic tracks included in the game. I only got GPL the other day. Can't believe I waited this long.

If you can handle the likes of GTR2, you should be able to handle this. Can't wait to get my wheel back...

One more thing about GPL, is the excellent community. A lot of modern wheels are supported due to the unpaid work of some skilled people.

Graphics and the year made aren't everything.

Don't know how I missed that part of his post. I agree, but I still think a lot of these games look good. Sure they aren't on par with modern games for graphics, but I was recently surprised how good some of these pc games look. Even GPL, which is 13 years old. It even looks better on my laptop than it does in some of those videos I posted.

Go for GTR2, even as you said there's not much cars. But there are a massive lot of downloadable cars and tracks, try a site called Nogrip. They have heaps :) It also has stuff for other PC racers in case you get something else ;)

Just personal opinion, but I don't pick games for graphics or year made. Some of the games mentioned are not only very realistic, but should also be very cheap. May I ask if you have a favourite racing series? eg Nascar, indycar, f1, alms etc.

This.

Also I think there are some current gen racing games out that look great like shift 2 & Dirt 3 but the specs given probably won't run them at full graphics settings. Most of the racers I like have been mentioned such as GPL and GTR 2 but I'd also suggest Race On and GTR Evolution.

Oh yeah, series.
I love f1 cars and f1 on speed. I don't care for nascar much, but I like it ok in video games. I don't know anything about the other series you mention.

My like is for the car. I like f1 cars, supercars like ferrari, lambo etc.

I would love to watch the real life endurance races with all the prototype cars that I like very much how they look. I'd like to see indy which I think is just an f1 car but not sure. I think I'd like gt series but not sure. The gt cars in gt5 I like.

I'm not only interested in graphics or product date but they do mean something. I just think of old games being abandon and not great graphics.

This is just my thoughts. Not based on knowledge, just guesses.

I don't mind a subscription if I liked the game enough of course. I also would like a demo before I bought anything, but not absolutely necessary.

Games like Grand Prix legends have good communities that keep games running on up to date machinery. That is better support than most games get. Some games get released and don't even get any patches even if they're buggy as hell. Grand Prix legends would not work properly on windows 7 until the community stepped in. Now it works perfectly. A lot of the other games listed have similar communities.

+1

If you want pure racing, iRacing is the only option.
No other game comes close.

If you want to have fun.
GT5
GTR2
Rfactor
Race 07
etc.

To me they matter. I want something current and not abandon.

So I'm assuming you have a $3000 computer to run those "new" games lag free and on highest quality then?

Gameplay should always come first and then graphics. Mario graphics are crappy as hell but still the best platformer of all time.

Don't ask for suggestions unless your willing to try some. You've clearly made up your mind already. Oh and newer doesn't mean bigger communities. A ton of older games have bigger ones than the new stuff.

Rfactor and iracing both seem cool. GTR does too. Gt legends does too lol. They all seem cool and their graphics seem fine too.

I'm not real big on graphics, but I know what you mean about outdated. I tried the GTR2Demo, and it was just too old looking for me. Iracing on the other hand in my opinion looks really good. I like the looks of it better then shift or forza. GT5 is really the only game that I think looks better. It seems to have a more realistic look then both of those games to me. Really though I hate to say it again but as far as racing goes iracing is really game to have. If you like to just drive cars then other games are great to, but iracing is super competitive, and it rewards you for clean racing more so then what place you finish the race in. It's probably the best multiplayer game I have ever played.
