I never liked the man, but I guess he was an influential guy, and he will be missed. It sucks he's another victim of cancer, though. We really need a cure.

Wow, three months after he was diagnosed. Its sad to hear that he's gone, he was an excellent newscaster.

wow, wtf... just wtf?! :irked:
Exactly. My reaction to the thread title was "You gotta be ****ting me!". I thought it was just few months ago, he said that he was going to retire to get cancer treatment. He was one of the best news anchors on abc IMO.

While I might not have agreed with his politics, nor had a high opinion of him, I do hope that his suffering is at an end and that he is at peace now.

Don't smoke, kids.

I thought he was an excellent newscaster and really enjoyed watching him. My condolences to his family and loved ones, he'll be missed.

Man, I don't remember the last time I cared when a newscaster died.

Well said. I feel the same way.

I have a feeling that everybody will get at least one cancer before they die.

To sort of go with that, it sometimes makes me afraid hitting the 60 year old mark.

I'll have gone from a cool childhood to a rebelous and wanting stage, then to the "best times of your life" to the after area of college with a love, then to possibly children. Then the next stage comes at 60....

Sorry...I'm just ranting at 8 in the morning and is just something that kept up since 5.

You can get a cancer from so many things, it's very scary. Secondhand smoke never used to bother me that much. Even in bars, I was fine with it..... until this new neighbor moved in my apartment complex. Yep, he's a smoker. I can't even open my window on warm nights anymore, because all of their secondhand smoke comes right into my bedroom. If they want a kill themselves with that ****, fine. I hate the fact I have to smell cigarettes in my bedroom all the time now. 👎

my family and i were watching extreme makeover home edition, then a special report interrupted, i seriously thought that president bush died, but that would be another type of report... (news flash?, or something of that nature). anyhoo its sad that he died, he was pretty young too, infact he looked much younger than 67, i was thinking mid 50's.

What about second hand from the idiots that do around me?! And don't give me that bull**** of it doesn't affect you.

Read the research. There is no proven causative link between passive smoking and respiratory tract cancer. Even the World Health Organisation (now) admits this.

Nevertheless, the research has been done - that means research under scientific conditions, eliminating as many variables as possible so that you know you're testing only that which you want to test - and no causative link could be found. This was such a shock to WHO that the numbers were massaged a little to show a link, and in that form the report forms the central tenet of every anti-smoking organisation on the planet, before they admitted the real results (following a court case).

It may seem logical to you that passive smoking causes cancer, but what is intuitive and what is true are often two completely different beasts. For instance, there's a proven link between circumcision and reduced risk of HIV infection. Intuitively this is nonsense, but it is true.

There is no proven causative link, despite studies into the phenomenon, between passive smoking and respiratory tract cancers. And the advice earlier in this thread is also true - if you don't want respiratory tract cancers, don't smoke. That's as near to a cure as you can get without actually being one.

I would suggest you don't hang around them... and read famine's posts.

Peter was good at speaking and had charisma. He was a bad newscaster but he was very likeable. I prefer a lot less opinion in my news than I got from him, but he was definitely talented. Cancer does need to be stopped.
