Peugeot stops endurance racing

Well only winning one 24 hour race killed the program in my opinion. But it was fun while it lasted.

Let's see if the new hybrid regs will undo the diesel in the Audi. The rules seem to benefit a car with hybrid power.

Well Porsche better hurry it up but for the time being its 03 through 07 all over again. All Audi, All the time

If Pescarolo can get the newest, most up-to-date 908 there is, it might be a good race, damn, I was really hoping, and believed they would win this year.:(

I'm wondering if this puts Jordan Tresson's seat at Signatech Nissan in jeopardy. In 2011, Signatech ran Lucas Ordoñez, Franck Mailleux, Soheil Ayari and Jean-Karl Vernay, but Vernay is under contract to Peugeot and was unavailable for 2012. Now he isn't and his replacement at Signatech was to have been Jordan Tresson...

But the entries have to be submitted until today isn't it? Maybe the entrants can change the car, not sure. About drivers, IIRC the teams only need to state ONE driver at this moment, not the full team.

And once again car manufacturers prove why we can't rely on them for the only source of competitive motorsport - motorsport series should not be built around pure manufacturer involvement for this very reason. If anyone at the ACO or FIA is sensible, they'd take this as a sign to try and help make indepedent teams more competitive rather than allowing manufacturers to dominate series and then leave. It isn't sustainable.

Depends how much cash Nissan and SCEE are paying to put Jordan in the seat and if Vernay actually brings money. If Nissan/SCEE have any kind of say on the seats, then he doesn't need to worry. I get the impression that Signatech (and the other GT Academy teams) owe a great deal to their partnership with the GT Academy - it sure helps having such a link both in terms of money and marketing.
Or at least I don't think its the opposite way round where the team are merely lending a seat out and that the Nissan/Sony link means very little to them to the point that they will go for the best driver line-up possible rather than serving the GT Academy.

From the article:

"Worst. Anti-SOPA Protest. Ever."

Shame though that Peugeot is calling it quits for Le Mans. :( It's also suprising news since Peugeot won every event in the 2011 Le Mans series besides the 24-hour race.

At the end of the 2011 Le Mans, Audi's next closest competition after the 4 Peugeots was from Rebellion Racing, but they were still behind by 17 laps. Right below that was Kronos racing, even further behind by 27 laps. I guess if we want to see some competition against the Audis for the next race, then either Audi will have to downgrade their cars or the competition will need to SERIOUSLY upgrade their cars to get even close to the Audis.

^The Toyota-Oreca cars should be a decent threat, no? Better than any other entry anyway.

Terrible news for the WEC and Le Mans. Personally, I cheered for Peugeot because I don't like Audi. I doubt Toyota can win on it's first try out (though stranger things have happened), so it looks like Audi will dominate the 24 hours this year, in boring fashion I presume.

Im a huge Audi fan, but I really hoped this wouldnt happen. Worst-Case scenario I think... I hope that Pescarolo picks up a couple of the 908's. Maybe even Muscle Milk or another ALMS team could buy them. Pretty sad. This year was going to be fantastic. The 908 was a beautiful car.

And now, We'll probably never get the 2011-spec 908 on Gran Turismo.

So does this mean there is no one to compete with Audi?

Depends on how good Toyota is out of the gate at Le Mans, we won't know that until June 3.

(Don't know what other races they are running, so we may find out sooner)

Well lets see here, if world history is any indicator to go off of... the French have surrendered to the Germans, Japan has joined in the fray and the British are barely hanging in there... America will jump in the second one of the Toyota's runs one of the Vette's off the road.

Good analogy

And also how major the turnaround Aston Martin will make... Last year was a total disaster. I think they managed to complete 6 laps and then in for a retirement. If they couldn't do it, I guess they might be in trouble too!

No. It's a testing and development year for them. Everything they have said about it says it's a low key reintroduction.

This year is not going to be good with no real competition for Audi.

AMR-One is AMR-Done....AMR will be running works GTE Vantages this year.

I might have missed it, but they're done with LMP1 and going for GTE this year? If so, that's absolutely not a good sign for the future of LMP1...

Let's get a new rumor into the world.

Maybe they stop with LMP because they want to go into F1. :p

To blow even more money?

Great story!

However, once again I'm reminded why I loathe Anthony Davidson

They will still be faster than Rebellion, Pescarolo, etc though - they will be more of a threat than anything else.

They would be more likely to withdraw their entry as well rather than be seen as the opposition to Audi and get totally hammered by them. Very bad PR.

I fail to see how this is a blow for P1....also this news is about 4 months old, nice work keeping up (the AMR-One being binned that is).

Not sure why you have to be rude.

Also with less notable entries in LMP1 for Le Mans maybe that's why he thinks it's going down. It seems more manufactures are going to GTE rather than try their hand at P1 where more privateers hang out. That is what the user seems to be saying

Exactly what I'm trying to say...

I mean, really. I don't want to see another Audi vs Peugeot battle just Peugeot replaced by Toyota. I want to see more manufacturers to join the party. This is absolutely not good for LMP1. That's all I'm trying to say...

About the news, yes I admit it. I missed a lot... Thanks.

Well I have to say, P1 hasn't been full of manufactures to my liking since the mid to late 90s and early 2000s. Everyone else after that seemed to want to shift to F1 and those who did return back to Le Mans are in the lower groups it seems.
