Any thoughts on how GT7 physics and tire model will rate against iRacing?

Other than graphics capability and frame rate will the underlying physics engine between PS4&5 be different?

Thanks

Michael

We have a thread on physics already but yes they will be improved. They are taking the pro drivers from the GT championship's feedback into account in the new model.

As it did in GTSport. GT7 won’t be much different and in terms of physics it’s not comparable to iRacing.

Physics can’t be different between consoles since there’s cross play. Wouldn’t be fair for anyone playing on either one.

Nobody can know the answers to these questions yet, but...

If history is anything to go by, it'll be most of the way there, but not as in-depth and with its own flaws rather than iRacing's flaws.

If there's cross-platform play, no.

PS4 is capable of much more advanced physics. A lot of people laud ACC physics and it is a PS4 game. They will be the same across the consoles but that doesn't mean there isn't room for improvement.

It's not that there isn't room for improvement, there's been room for improvement since at least PS3. It's that Polyphony has shown that they don't really want to make the physics much more complex than they already are. There's any number of basic features, like adjustable tyre pressures, that they've chosen not to add. It's almost certain at this point that the limited complexity of the physics is a design choice, because there's no technical reason why the physics couldn't be more realistic than they are.

Exactly why they've chosen this route is a matter for debate, and probably only Polyphony themselves know for sure. But one might have a reasonable guess that they believe that making the physics substantially more realistic will result in a worse experience for players. Given the limited popularity of more advanced simulation games it's hard to say that they'd be wrong, other semi-sim or full sim games are usually doing well if they sell a million copies.

PS2 was capable of better AI than what we saw from the PS3 and PS4 games. Capable is one thing, choosing and being able to use that capability is quite another.

For the first question, the physics surely will be better than GT Sport! I doubt it will be as good as iRacing, but it's pretty sure that will be more realistic and better than GT Sport. In the videos we can notice improvements on suspension model and probably even tyre model. And they're just 1-2 minutes videos, but the difference is tangible. More content will come in the next weeks, so we will be able to see more and judge more accurately. I expect some FB improvements also.

As for the second question, I don't think PS4 and PS5 will have different physics, I suppose the major differences between PS5 and PS4 will probably be just graphics, framerate, 3D Audio, RT Support (only replays and scapes), 4K resolution, dualsense adaptive trigger and feedback, loading times, HDR (maybe) and MAYBE the VR support when PSVR2 come out. But I think the rest gameplay and content wise is the pretty much the same.

Sport has HDR on PS4 so GT7 definitely will. GT7 will also definitely support PSVR2 probably even at launch. Sony's plan for it is to have their big first party titles fully playable in VR so they don't have to split resources.
