Why do you prefer your favourite pizza delivery service?

Generally here jobs where tips are 'expected' i.e. waiting staff, food delivery, bartenders etc. have much lower hourly wages to account for the tips that are made, so it's kind of seen as an insult not to tip in that situation.

I assume something like that is built into the wages/prices in Australia. My mom was telling me pizzas cost something like 30+ dollars in Melbourne when she was there earlier this year.

Having put myself through 6 years of school already off of ****** wages + tips I can tell you it's pretty insulting to give somebody excellent service only to get skimped on a tip.

About the only places I don't tip is somewhere like McDonald's. Even if I'm getting takeout somewhere and picking it up myself, I'll leave a small tip (I don't mind leaving a dollar or two for good, cheap food, even if they don't deliver/serve it to me).

Nope tipping is rare in Melbourne. About the only time i'll tip is at a good restaurant and only if the service justifies it. That's not being cheap on my behalf that's just how it is. For good service and food i'm happy to pay about a $20 tip on a $120 meal bill. Tips aren't factored into wages in Aus, they are a bonus.

As for the pizza prices, you're mum was buying from the wrong shops. You can get a cracking family pizza in Melbourne for about $20 to $25.

In England we sometimes tip, but only for waiter's/waitress's in resteruants, and stuff like that, not just for every little thing. And when we tip it is ussually alot less than you guys mentioned that you give.

Even that's too much. Place near me sells a Large for $5.90.
 
Yeah I sometimes make my own pizza's but I mess up when I insist on stuffing the crust:lol:.
 
I normally tip for pizzas, like $1-2 but they have good service, know me by first name now and know what I normally get. The pizzas are around $8-9

And I bartend/ waiter just on weekends and clean up on tips, average $100 a shift.

Slightly off-topic but I just don't understand tipping. When a customer calls me and I spend 8 hours working back fixing up his SQL Server which they managed to break by seemingly magic, I don't get some cash handed to be at the end, yet some guy who manages to complete the most basic task of say, driving to my house to deliver a pizza, expects a tip.

Does not compute. Proof that the service and hospitality industry is broken. I'm just reading some states in the US allow payment below the minimum wage if they get tips, that's disgraceful.

This practice was outlawed in the UK a few years ago. S0ome places would use the tips to top up wages to minimum wage levels, rather than paying minimum wage+tips.
 
Tipping is a rare phenomenon here, I've never really seen anyone tipping, though I've done it before, but not to delivery people - rather to a friendly old man serving the drinks at my local coffeeshop.


Personally I think it is not a necessary practice to tip, it should only be for truly exemplary service - someone just doing their job generically should simply get their usual wage. That said, usual wages should be 'normal' and not "include tips".

Well, there's a solution: move to France.

People over here tend to refuse tips, at least in the normal regions without too many tourists - Paris is quite different. It's considered a charity thing and waiters / waitresses don't like that. Now, buying the barkeeper a drink is a different story...

This. If It weren't for this, people skimping on tips really wouldn't be a problem to me...but most companies around here use the fact that you make tips as an excuse to pay you crap. So a bad tip day/slow day...or a bunch of people skimping really hits hard.

I had this discussion with a taxi driver in Las Vegas - all sparked by me saying "please" when telling him where we needed to go, by the way - I'm of the opinion that places in the US would have to start paying more as a matter of course if there wasn't the culture of always tipping, otherwise the just wouldn't get any serving staff.

He then accused me of being a communist when I pointed out that he wouldn't have to be working at his age if the US had universal healthcare... though this was also the guy who refused to believe that our police don't carry guns.

The only point I'm making is that generally over here, people who make tips make crappy wages to account for said tips, and therefore its kind of a dick move not to tip over here (if the service is good, anyway. I'll tip a lot less for bad service, but I'll always leave something).

As for universal health care and the gov't forcing businesses to raise wages, well that's a whole different topic.

They tend to give you a lot of stuff that'd belong to someone else over here...50/50 that you'll receive 4 instead of 2 pizzas. :p
 
Throwing a 3-2 curveball for the strikeout by saying I prefer Little Cesaers (don't know how to spell it) because it tastes the best!
 
Has anyone ever had Jet's Pizza? I'm pretty sure its a smaller chain, there's locations in North Carolina. It's so good, cheesy perfection 👍.
 
Oh! We can mention smaller chains? What about individual places? If so then I prefer pizza from Wayne's Pizza and Subs in Blenheim Ontario anyday of the week.
 
I always prefer Dominos. A couple of years ago I was stuck with Pizza Hut but now it seems like their Pizzas quality aren't that great anymore and the prices are seemingly higher than before. Just last year, there's a brand new pizza company called The Canadian Pizza. Even better, a price of 1 for 2. Doesn't matter what size, toppings. Just 1 for 2. Taste isn't that bad either and their deliveryh service is as quick as Dominos!

That's what happened to us. :cool: Usually every 3rd meal they will screw it up because I ALWAYS order online, and I swap ingredients around on them. Always guaranteed to be messed up. It happens with pretty much all domino's pizza shops.

That sounds awesome save from the onion. Onion is definitely the one ingredient I will never accept on my pizza.

Probably the best 'specialty pizza' that the local places offer here is the buffalo chicken. Hot sauce, cheddar/mozzarella/bleu cheese + chicken...awesome.
 
Agreed on the buffalo chicken 👍. Can I change my pick? I don't think they deliver, but they do carryout. Has anyone ever had Mellow Mushroom? Heaven on a crust :D.
 
Sadly the big pizza franchise companies are not very well present over here (only in the big cities), but we have at nearly every corner a "small" pizza service. So, it's mostly a trial & error game. :)

But ey, who cares. I can have one of the best frozen pizzas on the planet, for the half prize of a "fresh" one.
If you get the chance, you should try out one of the Dr. Oetker pizzas, they are really great. :dopey:👍
