We can only take 8 from each site, so GT-Planet users are already debating on who is going to do it. If we are over 8 users, we need to do a lottery or something to figure out who will be racing.

Also, we dropped GameSpot. >.> No hard feelings, it's just hard to do 3 teams with 16 user limit. >.>

Some of the rules being talked about:

Lap Are Voided Under the Following

Bumping Into Another Driver
Cutting Corners
Idling in First Gear

Allowed Breaks
Every FOUR (4) Hours, all users MUST pull over and take a 20 minute break to do whatever. You are free to masturbate, eat, ****, pee, etc...and this is the ONLY time you are allowed to take off the headset and be away from Vent.
Pit-Stops, during Pit-Stops you will get about 30 seconds to 2 minutes of break, during this time you are free to do whatever you want. Pit-Stops are yours to do, just keep in mind you lose a lap by doing this.

Vent Checks
To prevent users from giving the controller/wheel to a buddy, all users are allowed to challenge another user for a voice check. if the user can't respond within 10 seconds, 5 laps will be taken off that user's end total.
If a user is idling in first gear for longer than 5 minutes, he will lose 5 laps off his total lap count. This must be challenged by another user or must be noticed by one of the spectators.

Scoring System

Total Team Lap - After adding up the totals of each team member, and taking away all penalties...divide by the amount of users on that team. The team with the highest lap count wins the Total Team Lap.
Fastest Lap - The First to Tenth place users with the fastest lap are given 10 points to 1 point, the team with the highest combined fastest lap wins the fastest lap.

When they do real 24 hour races, they have multiple drivers, so the others can rest and eat.

I want to see how this will be done! I'm interested in the idea I just don't think I could do it. :dopey:

The plan is to get a user or two from GameSpot, 1UP, and etc...and they drive the entire 24 hours. The donations will be based on how many laps a user can finish, and having reports on how close they are to break mentally.

I'm asking you guys on GT-Planet first as you guys are the premier site for racing games, and have shown a tremendous amount of maturity compared to the other sites. >.>

Think about it, a dozen or few dozen drivers...how many will break to insanity and how very few will make the final minutes.
 
This is awesome. I'm planning a 24hr LeMans myself with 5 friends, each doing 4 hours each. I just need to unlock the damn race first!

I am so up for this. To support the race I think we could organise a ventrilo or teamspeak server so everyone can chat while racing (in-game is a bit dodgy). We'd also need a very stable host. Heck, if we get enough people I'm sure we could get a few commentators and get a thread going here on GTP to keep everyone updated with the action :D
 
I'm interested, I was actually starting to think about something on that line :D

I can also stream my webcam online and could try to get the support of the site I write for as well ( thisismyjoystick.com )

Only thing that I wonder is, isn't it a little late to do it for the holidays? Times to organize are a tad limited.

So the charity part would be a participation fee? As many would be driving as a tem would the fee be per team meber or per team? How are you going to handle the legal side of money collecting? What would be the target of the charity?

People watch us play, and the donations would be given to Child's Play like all other gaming events. Child's Play takes care of the donations.

People pay us to do laps, so each lap they promise a dollar or 50 cents on the user or team.

The pull will be the viewers watching the racers lose their sanity. While it's going on, each site can do they own special events like asking the drivers trivia while they race and trying to get people to pull out of the race and whatnot.
 
Thought that Child's Play was only for US but it seems to be international event now. :)
So the idea is to race at some venue provided by the organizer? Where would this be?
 
Count me in! Really looking forward to do these kind of event for a good cause. I'll be teaming up with my little brother. :)

What's the percentage of this becoming a reality?
 
Yeah I'm in. Just post some final details when you're ready! This should be great. Even if we don't raise a lot of money, we will have fun anyway!

I'd say it'd be better to bunch as many people as possible in the same lobbies?
 
I would defiantly be up for it if you can get in running smoothly and I'm good fashion.

I wouldn't mind if we did a joint-event with users from GT-Planet, Giant Bomb, and other sites. The entire driving community coming together, and helping plan this out. :D

I wish i can do this but i need some skilled buddies because when i was doing nurb solo for 3hours + my eyes were shutting and i crashed a lot.

Just a heads up, the one racer is on his own. We get about 3-4 drivers in their own cars, so you will be racing on your own.

No switching users! It would defeat the point, and it's for the absolute insane who will be willing to do the full 24 hours.
