Thanks for the help. :) I'll only be doing it through the computer with DVD-9 games. Otherwise I just rip em through the PS2. Thanks again. ;)

Holy cow, GTA: San Andreas does work with HDLoader and it copied over perfectly. The disc appears to be a DVD-5 disc and not DVD-9. The load times are extremely quick and the pop up problems are almost nonexistent.

the draw distance in the gta games isn't sogreat due to the size of the map.... sooo, stuff just "pops up" onto the screen rather than being progressively rendered while you're driving at high speeds

And with the hard drive running the game it doesn't appear to be as noticable? I guess that's because it can read the elements from the drive quicker without having to seek so much.

Anyway, I'll give it a try today.

PS2 Network Adaptor $40
120GB Maxtor HDD $110
HD Loader $30

Loading your games in 1/10 the time, priceless.

Old stupid joke, but I had to use it. And you don't have to have a great big hard drive either. 120 is the most it supports, but an old 40GB would work too. You also don't need a Maxtor, but that's what Sony designed the connectors around so it works the best. I've actually got a stack of old Maxtor drives at my house that I'm going to be distributing to my friends who need them.

wanna send one this way? :D

Anyways, i have the network adapter and I can get HDLoader for free (and I can boot it off my memory card if i chose to do so :D)... it's just that I dont have cash to put into purchasing anything right now

I had a 40 then upgraded to an 80 and yes it has been an incredible benifit. Although some games don't work the ones that do loading just becomes seamless.

Although the last hurdle HDD loader needs to overcome is GT4, if it works with GT4 i'll be so pleased i'll make a smiley like this.

( :

A friend of mine got back to the PS2 before I did and apparently it works "it's even better man. even better. I gotta get the hd loader hookup"

Weeeeee!!

I don't see why it wouldn't work. The only thing that HDLoader does is copy the data from the disc to the HDD and run the game from the HDD instead of the disc. LAN should work.

Yeah, saves work in all GTA games for PS2 on HDL. I got SA running on HDL right now, no probs.

I have a question... Does anyone know where i can get HDloader in Australia or at least a PAL one which will work on my ps2, because i am really interested in getting one.

Cheers,
Dan.

I believe HDLoader is region-free, meaning you can use it anywhere in the world. As for obtaining a copy, well... lets just say it's out there, somewhere.

It's not region free though... I've looked up some info and there a different ones for the different regions, because it still needs to be an orignal to boot up on a non- modchipped pc. Oh well i'll just keep looking...

Any cracked versions hdl floating around p2p? or is it still available to buy in pal territories.
I simply got to try this.
Sony must be crapping themselves over this stuff!

There is a method to load it from the memory card, but you still have to use an exploited game to make that happen. Search Google for that information.

The new HD-loaders 2.0 does support I believe up to 200gb harddrives. If you don't get a maxtor drive, it may not work and you may have to modify the network adapter to fit it as its a little off.

http://www.cdrom-guide.com/forums/ Good place to start with this stuff (their are better sites for xbox though).

If I was to get this HDLoader/HDAdvance thing, do you guys think that it would work for GT4 some months down the road? Will it only work for games that have been released before HDAdvance was released, or will it work for future games as well?
Also, if you use HDLoader/HDAdvance, it doesn't scew up using save files off memory cards or anything, right? You can still do everything you normally could by running the game off the disc, just quicker, correct?

DVD-9 is a dual layer format. You can use WinHIIP to copy PS2 games to a PS2 formatted hard drive using a Windows computer, including the new format.

That means that the games are on a dual-layer disc. I believe the single-layer discs, which most games are on so far, store up to 4.5GBs.
