How can you say that they announced when you haven even seen actual console, there is no release date and no informations about specification of actual console. How many outputs it will have. Only thing they shown was New Controller.

Sony announced controller, big step 👍 You owe me one, but i waive that debt. 👍 :sly:

To announce something you only have to state that it exists and/or will be a thing, they definitely did that. There were also plenty of technical details announced, such as the x86-64 processor, 8GB of GDDR5 RAM and an internal hard drive, 1.84 (or whatever) TeraFLOPS of computing power... And they gave a 'Holiday 2013' release date.

Borrow someone's PSP and try that. It powers off, but records the last state it was in before the switch was hit. When you turn it on it goes back to exactly where it was and you continue.

It's not on, it's not a standby mode. It's off. There's no danger to the hardware at all if it's done correctly.

So it powers on without a boot-up and immediately resumes?
And yeah, I guess that could be a solution. But he was talking about an always on sort of thing. It's just me, though. You never know the design flaws and even in standby a the fan could break or something. Even if the PS4 runs cooler than the PS3, it'd get on my nerves a bit knowing it's always on. Maybe I'm a bit OCD..

Funny, I could have sworn they announced that the PS4 existed and showed several games running on it. Just because they didn't show the hardware it doesn't mean they didn't announce it, they clearly did.

Also they did announce a release date, Holiday 2013, and they announced most of the hardware specs.

Time to pay up.

Looks like they just raced against Microsoft, wanted to tell us just few things about it. Not like previous announcements from sony when they actually shown their real game console. PS2, psp, PS3 PS Vita.

To announce something you have to actually show it, not promising what it will be or can it do. From mine point of view they didn't design it yet. That's why there is no actual system yet. When full technicalities will leaked then would be BIG news from sony. :sly:

Did you guys seriously bet? Or is it just one of those "I bet you $10000000 we have school tomorrow" kind of bets.

Did you miss the part a few minutes in where they actually announced the console? I'll make this easy for you.

an·nounce
/əˈnouns/
Verb
Make a public and typically formal declaration about a fact or occurrence or intention.

That is exactly what Sony did.

To announce something you have to actually show it, not promising what it will be or can it do.

No, you don't. See the dictionary definition above.

From mine point of view they didn't design it yet. That's why there is no actual system yet.

Your point of view is irrelevant. You made a bet.(which, to be honest, I don't actually care about. It's your attitude that bugs me) Either live up to your end of the bet, or just back out of it and admit you won't pay. Don't try and debate the meaning of the word "announcement". You won't win.

Look I obviously don't actually want paying, it was just a bit of fun but dude, they announced the PS4. You can't deny that.

an·nounce·ment
[uh-nouns-muhnt]
noun
1. public or formal notice announcing something: The announcement appeared in the newspapers.
2. the act of announcing.
3. a short message or commercial, especially a commercial spoken on radio or television.

You don't need to show anything to announce something. Here I have an announcement - I will be fitting a new cooker in my kitchen next month. There I've announced that, you don't need to see the cooker.

Well no it was just a bit of fun, USSR said he bet $100 Sony wouldn't announce the PS4 last night, we took him up on it. It wasn't a serious bet obviously but it is funny to see him somehow try to claim it wasn't actually announced last night.

I would be stunned if sony announce today their new game console, which ever is going to be named PS4 or Orbis. As they stated few weeks earlier that sony will not announce PS4 before Microsoft announces new Xbox.

I'm betting 100$ that won't be today. If that's true so what is going on with all those History lessons on their videos? ohhhh this pressure! :grumpy:
You were saying? :sly: I knew I should have taken that $100.00 bet but you never really responded. :dopey:

I do like how the PS4 will allow you to share videos and clips from games. Thats pretty much what Bungie has been doing since Halo 3. Every game, everything is always recorded so you can share anything from the Halo games. This sounds very similar to that.

Still not sure how the compatibility will work. It says we can "Stream" the PS1, PS2, PS3 games but does that mean we would have to re-purchase them? Sounds like the discs wont work in the PS4. Basically no backward compatibility besides streaming the dl. Which means any hard copy of the previous gens would be worhtless on the PS3. Hopefully I am just reading that wrong.

I wonder if they record the games at the GPU level? So you have superior quality when streaming? Would be interesting.

So if they announced where is it? Where is a proof, a picture of actual machine. Not the new Dual Shock Controller, won't be fulled by that.

Step back few years back and try to remember how PS3 announcement looked like rather give dictionary rules that was clearly broken. It was fun to watch how the eat a cookie and still have this cookie. :) Sony know how to surprise us, and i didn't for a second doubt they didn't show us actual game console. I was right, and so it was true what they statement few weeks earlier saying that Sony did not make same mistake again by showing next game console before Microsoft does. 👍

Thats what I am wondering. Halo records the videos at 100% quality and is constantly recording EVERY single game for EVERYONE that plays. Its quite insane how they do it. I wonder if it will be similar to that. However I am more concerned with how the backward compatibility will work. Thats always been a pain from console to console.

Ok I'm bored now. You need to contact all the gaming press and tell them PS4 wasn't announced last night.

Yeah, I imagine it'll be recording the vector data and it will then render it in-engine on demand, rather than actually recording the frames as they happen in the game. Recording the vector data means you can move the camera around freely or even reduce the playback speed and still get a smooth (ish) recording. Recording what the GPU is putting out means you're locked to one viewpoint. rFactor and other racing sims are always recording everything you do, too, and I wish more games implemented that feature.

If they didn't anounced the PS4 that japanese guy who spoke about a new Final Fantasy did what? -.-'

It's obvious that they anounced the new console. For me the visual part of actually see the box is secondary. I mean, when I bought PS1 PS2 and PS3 I didn't do it for the object itself but for the games and specs... and that they show us very clearly yesterday. ;)

used games playable? didnt hear a thing about it.

streaming ps 1, 2 and 3 games, does this mean i need to rebuy them or i can just put in the disc (or load up from my psn id for ps3 dl games)?

also not impressed in the slightest with what ive seen, the jump is so small its ridiculous to release any next gen system. the jump from ps1 to ps2 made sense. the jump from ps2 tp ps3 was too small and i didnt like it that much, the jump from 3 to 4 seems so small that it doesnt make any cents but can it make dollars? im not buying a ps4 untill at least 2 years after its been released, it ever.

An exec Mentioned it after about he rumor being rubbished for no used games and goes on to say thats 2nd hand is an important part of the industry.

How do you think the jump is small? Hardware or software or both. The specs look way better than what the PS3 can do I mean going from 256MB of RAM and 256MB of VRAM to a shared 8GB of GDDR5 RAM is very big to me.

Sounds more like a hibernate, id rather hibernate my laptop than turn it off unless updating etc because i could just resume where i left off, ease of access really. Still off loosing tiny battery life and no fan on.

Yeah, I was just typing up a long response to that post but this sums it up better. Diminishing returns in the graphics department means 'next gen' isn't purely graphical (thank god).

You are unbelievable. Why don't you contact the gaming press like Simon suggested? While you're at it, why don't you challenge every English dictionary on their definition of announcement?

Yup thats truly pathetic ussr. Its actually worse than what happened with the bet in the GTA5 thread. But at least that eventually worked itself out in the ludicrous claim thread. This is just plain pathetic. People, if you are going to place a bet, be prepared to man up and pay your debt. If you dont have the balls to pay up, dont place the bet.

They announced it the second they said "Playstation 4" in the meeting. The fact that they spent 30 minutes giving a detailed breakdown of the console specifications and featureset is merely window dressing at that point.

I place a bet of one shilling that I can touch the clouds.

@neema - Yeah, you corrected me on what I meant, haha. I agree more games need always-on recording. :D

You could say it this way, movies get annouced all the time but you never see it until a few months before release with the trailer (that being the E3 show for hardware reveal) except for pictures/posters (nex gen games show offs) and leaked set footage (rumoured spec and prototype pictures) but all in all, the film it self has been announced. Same with the PS4!

shhhhhhhh!

Everyone be quiet and stay still.

*ahem*

ussr, here you go buddy!

You won! Take it it's yours, there's no PS4!

Ok, now, go on and spend it now buddy, off you go!
Spend it over and over again, not all in one place now heh heh, good man!

This.

I'm more interested in new gameplay features and improvements than in graphics. Current Gen games don't look terrible and there's still a lot of PS3 games I want to play. Good gameplay is what will make me go out and get this at launch rather than just getting some more PS3 games and biding my time.

I think what PS4 games will need to do is to have features that wouldn't be possible on the PS3 just saying it looks better won't be enough ie for racing games using google maps to make tracks so you could use anywhere as a race course (maybe not to that extent but hopefully you'll get my point)
