Doesn't marketing work both ways though? If you show the console, but not what you can do, then people will just speculate about what you can do; marketing will still be "working."
I still think that if MS were to just show off the basics right away and hopefully make Gold an actual premium service rather than an, pretty much, obligatory one, then they'll be on a good step.
