Pretty interesting and amazing info. Typical Sony press release, though. Amazing features for the future console, with a TON of hype!

At this point in my life, at age 43, it's all just 'meh.'

But, I'm not trying to kid anybody. I'll get one. But, for the first time since PlayStation's have been release, I will NOT get one on launch day. It's just not as important to me as it once was.

Maybe that's something to do wi your age? Not taking a poke at you, just saying! Lol.

I will definitely getting a day one, I will be in that queue at 12.

Anyone pre-ordered yet? I'll be ordering mine Friday. Wonder what different HDD levels their will be. I'm guessing that the max will be a TB, any other thoughts on this?

I'll pre order in a few months. I'm curious to know the size of HDD,s available. I will probably go for the biggest one. I did notice one of the guys mention a large hdd in the presentation but they didn't go into detail. I imagine somewhere around a TB.

I'm guessing Microsoft will have no real choice but to follow Sony's lead in bringing an open platform in regards to used games.

It will be interesting on what happens with that topic.

Is it confirmed that used games are gone?

Two things they didn't mention or (I've missed it) Free online and Used games

they didn't mention them did they?\

Edit :NVM Read the eurogamer article,Shut up and take my money then

We don't know yet. It seems like there may be an extended PS+ though. I'm assuming that in order to use the stream but to full effect, you'll need to have PS+.

One thing that I can't seem to fit in is the Gaikai streaming service. To me it sounds like it would be a whole standalone service to have to for. If it's integrated with PS+, then wow, it'd be awesome, but possibly pretty expensive at the same time, unless there's different packages or whatever.

But I'll also assume that if you want to just get online and play, or do stuff like Netflix, it'll still be free.

GDDR5 IS NOT THE SAME THING AS DDR RAM WHICH IS INSIDE OF A COMPUTER.

GDDR5 is strictly for graphic processing. DDR is for computational tasks and caching.

And for all of you saying that this isn't some big number because "my computer has 8 gigs of ram and it's so cheap"- no. Shut up. Stop talking. You are dumb. This is like comparing a toaster to your poor, hopeless soul.

The reason this number is significant is because high end GPU's for PC's have between about 2-4GB of GDDR5 RAM (My system has 3GB of GDDR5.

Nvidia will be releasing a new GPU called Titan soon (probably months and months before PS4) that has 6GB of GDDR5. This card is being called a "super computer GPU". Which is still 2GB less than the PS4. That is why that number is an industry leader.

However, there are people currently out there who have 8GB or more of GDDR5 RAM on their pc's, but this involves multiple GPU's being run in SLI/Crossfire.

The PS4 has 8GB GDDR5 in a unified memory allocation configuration, meaning that the CPU and GPU share it. The Titan has 6GB all to itself while the CPU can have as much as required, huge difference there.

As mentioned, two 4GB cards in parallel have a total of 4GB, not 8GB; 4GB per processor which share the load, that's not the same as 8GB.

Also can you show me who specifically said that the 8GB of GDDR5 isn't a big deal because 8GB DDR3 is cheap? I must've missed that.

Yeah they did not mention anything about pricing to use Gaikai.

Not that I would experience any of that with my awesome internet speed :(

Edit: I like the idea of the PS4 entering a low power mode so it will just resume instead of a boot.

We've now captured Bungie & Blizzard to develop games for PS4.

By captured, you mean picked up. Blizzard is losing its PC audience since the Activision merger as the quality of their games has slide, massively. They use to create fun games that had great replay value but now it is more a money machine. The Kotick Effect.

Even if PS4 will allow used games Assetto Corsa has way too potential for not going PC this time. GT6 must be perfect, customizable, and full of content. It's the only way I could consider PS4.

That's a pretty cool idea, like putting your PC on standby then you just have to log back on?

I dunno though. I wouldn't want my console on permanently, especially the "first-gen" PS4s.

I just watched whole thing. Very weird announced. Sony didn't actually show how PS4 looks like, didn't even bother to give specifications. There is no word about movies, music and other medias. So what was that?

That is the main issue here like you said,Is it oke if it goes into the low power mode and never shut off? that's the important question.I'd guess yes but who know what faults the first of the line consoles will have.

You'd hope Sony and Microsoft have learnt a few lessons about how not to mount heat sinks on a BGA, and the fact that they're using AMD tech instead of a brand new processor that has never been mass produced before can only be a good thing. Internally the PS4 is pretty much a netbook with a GPGPU so I expect there to be far fewer teething problems unlike the PS3 which was basically a supercomputer-grade CPU in a tiny box. With a heat sink that wasn't attached properly.

Seriously, I reckon the PS4 is going to be shockingly small. I don't mean it'll be the size of an Altoids tin or anything but I think it'll be far smaller than most people would expect from a new console.

As for the low power mode, it only needs a few volts to keep the RAM alive and I would've thought very little current for CMOS logic (which it almost certainly would be), I would guess it'll be 1.5W, probably less in 'standby' mode. That's not going to overheat anything or anything, though I do hope it still saves to the hard drive when you 'turn it off' and doesn't depend on this hibernation mode for saving games.

I'd guess about the same size or a bit chunkier than the slim PS3.

Can it come in a color that is not black /wishful

PS3 Slim size is decent. I hope they put rubber feet on the side this time around so we can stand the console vertically without the case scratching and having to buy a stand.

Hmm, good points. I didn't even think about that at all for some reason!

Of course it'll be smaller. And there I went imagine a rock of a system, no need.

Maybe that's a reason they held back on showing it off 'cause people would've assumed the wrong thing in seeing a small form factor, if that is the case, for a new system.

Drive in what it can do, and how powerful it is first, then show off how surprisingly small it is - sexy.

But again, that is if it does end up being surprisingly small :D

They announced it though, so you owe me $100.

Also to have more time to change the design IF they change something about the specs, if they need more/less space

The design of the case probably isn't final but I can't see them changing the CPU though as someone was wishing, they're not going to change the heart of the machine <10 months before it's released.

Yeah, I would guess that's probably why they didn't show it off, they probably want to get the gaming press actually playing the games and commenting on how powerful it really is before they show everyone that it's tiny. If you start off with a huge console, it must be powerful, then when you shrink it a few years down the line it's called progress. Start off with a small console and people will assume it's not powerful, I guess!

Borrow someone's PSP and try that. It powers off, but records the last state it was in before the switch was hit. When you turn it on it goes back to exactly where it was and you continue.

It's not on, it's not a standby mode. It's off. There's no danger to the hardware at all if it's done correctly.

How can you say that they announced when you haven even seen actual console, there is no release date and no informations about specification of actual console. How many outputs it will have. Only thing they shown was New Controller.

Sony announced controller, big step 👍 You owe me one, but i waive that debt. 👍 :sly:
