This is probably nothing but received the below message from amazon today concerning my pre-ordered copy of BF4. I know it was speculation that the PS4 might be released in Nov but thought this was interesting.

Hello,

We have good news! We're able to get this part of your order to you faster than we originally promised:

"Battlefield 4"
Previous estimated arrival date: December 31, 2013
New estimated arrival date: October 29, 2013

Nice.

That's just the release date for the PS3/360 version, unless I'm missing something here?

Interesting comments made by Richard Neville (the Mad Catz senior product development manager) in this article about the PS4 requiring "all new peripherals."

Wonder if this means that wheels will not be compatible either. The Mad Catz fightsticks are all USB connected just like wheels, so this is worrying news...

Evolution have already confirmed that all existing wheels will work with Drive Club.

Mad Catz are a poor manufacturer anyway imo (plus I thought they were connected to MS in someway)

Maybe they mean just Mad Catz equipment won't work on PS4?

I'm sure not that many people are bothered but, has Sony confirmed that Playstation Home is coming to PS4? Shouldn't be hard seeing as its all cloud based.

If my Thrustmaster does not work with the PS4, I'd be absolutely furious. But I really don't see why it wouldn't. As far as I know, they're still using the same USB thingy (a very technical term :)) they used in the PS3.

PS3 uses USB 2.0 (I think) while PS4 uses USB 3.0, so they're not the same. The speeds aren't, anyway. (If that's what you were talking about)

I don't think they've said anything regarding it, i think they will bring it to PS4 though.

Eks

Not what I meant. I meant that the PS3 uses HID, rather than XID. The Thrustmaster supports USB 3.0, and I think the Logitech wheels do too?

Just reserved my PS4 at Gamestop :D

Had to put $100 down.

USB 2.0 and 3.0 work the same.

I expect the wheels work but have some issues with button mapping and obviously missing touch pad.

Would be really bad in they don't work.

How many driving force pros, g25, g27 are out there? I would guess 800k-1.5 million. Also would be bad for those small amount who bought an expensive thrusmaster for GT5 recently.

Since wheel people usually buy many of the smaller driving games released, its a sizable proportion of customers you might upset/lose for most driving games.

Fanatec have a very small user base. PWTS had 10k made, guess the other wheels are similar. So Xbox may not care don't even know or want to include some legacy hardware for the One, expect you to buy a new wheel or seek out some adapter.

PS2/PS3/PC logitech wheels have I would say a reason to support since the user base is probably quite large and was always USB, not silly rf transmitters

I'll be preordering mine either today or sometime this weekend. Can't wait. 👍

Seems like a good choice ,seems the pre orders for it are through the roof.

No kiddin'. According to this article, those who preorder through amazon may not even receive their PS4 on time due to high demand.

I hope we find out if the wheels will work before GT6 comes out. If they do I'm getting a wheel. Not paying 200 quid if it won't work in 6 month time.

Logitech is out of the driving periphial business, if I'm not mistaken?

Not exactly. They are making PC gaming peripherals. My guess is they will still make over priced keyboards and mice. Gotta love vagueness.

Well, keyboards and mouses do not really count as driving peripheral, or in other words as peripheral especially designed for driving purpose.

Yes, the plural of mouse is mice. Logitech does not specialize in "driving peripherals" or even gaming peripherals. They make computer peripherals.

But not for computer mouses.

Computer: Mouse - Mouses
Zoology: Mouse - Mice

At least that's what I heard.

EDIT: Ha! I was wrong! :p

The problem as I understand it was the wheels were basically a niche of a niche; and stuff like mice and regular controllers have wider appeal and are considerably more attractive to retailers (because they take up less shelf space).

Mmhmm, ooookay. This is the first time I've ever heard computer hardware is exempt from simple English language rules. I'm 43 and went to school for computer science and programming. Not that it matters.
Most likely I'm wrong.
One dictionary lists mouses as "comp" and mice only as "zool", but the oxford dictionary lists the following:

usage: Is the plural of mouse in the computing sense mice or mouses ? People often feel that this sense needs its own distinctive plural, but in fact the ordinary plural mice is more common, and the first recorded use of the term in the plural (1984) is mice .
Sorry!

Although:
The Microsoft(R) Manual of Style for Technical Publications
(ed. Amanda Clark, Microsoft Press, 1995, ISBN 1-55615-939-0)
says: "Avoid using the plural mice; if you need to refer to more
than one mouse, use mouse devices."

Nobody has a clue, following use whatever you want! That's called language!
