The only difference is that the launch edition is delivered on launch day, so it's not that big of a deal.

In case anybody was worried ( I know I was) the Drive Club devs just slipped up and said you can share gameplay to youtube, not just Facebook. Great news.

I'm still questioning how the share function will work. Does it instantly stream the footage to whatever site or does it save to your PS4 and you can upload it later?

You open up the share menu, choose a portion of recent gameplay, it then uploads it to facebook/youtube all in the background while you continue to play. It has an onboard chip to do that without interfering with gameplay

Not sure if this has been posted but it looks like Amazon has sold out on its "launch edition" PS4s already.

The "standard edition" will be available/ship after launch.

The standard version of the PlayStation 4 is identical to the Launch Edition. Due to high demand, we cannot guarantee Release-Date Delivery on the standard version of the PlayStation 4. We will deliver the standard version of PlayStation 4 as close to its release date as possible.

.

So how do I know if I have the launch edition?? I have pre-ordered mine from Amazon. What's the chances of me getting it Launch Day???

I feel sorry for the delivery companies. They're going to spend all day just driving about delivering PS4's.

Would be better if it saved the file to hard disk.
Downloading it again from youtube would work too if the quality is good enough.

Could someone explain to me exactly what "Free to Play" games are?

It's all in the name buddy; full games that can be downloaded and played without having to pay any money. Free to play games often have things you can spend your money on within the game (such as in-game currency). Hope this answers your question :)

Thanks. Figured they would have some weird definition of what "free to play" is since so many companies are all vague and make things really confusing with weird rules and loopholes.

Yeah, there are many subtypes of 'Free to Play' ranging from reasonable to absurd. Planetside 2 is what I would call reasonable as players who spend no money aren't at a huge disadvantage when it comes to combat but are limited in the roles they can perform, then you have APB: Reloaded and Real Racing 3, the former gives you free guns that are worse than peashooters so you just get slaughtered by players who have paid real money (rendering the fact that the game is free completely pointless) and the latter monetises everything: buy a car and wait for delivery or pay to speed it up, drive the car and wait for it to be repaired or pay to speed it up... All told there's over $500 of paid options in a 'free' iOS game. Madness. Of course you can play either without spending money, the question is whether it's worth your time.

Also regardless of how fair the system is, one common feature of all free to play games is that they're eyebrow-strainingly expensive. One gun plus attachments and a set of armour in Blacklight: Retribution costs more than BF3 Premium does, which features more players per game, larger maps, more vehicles, more weapons... The expensive cars in Simraceway are approaching $40 each now too, I'm sure GT5 can be found for less than that.

So as long as you have the time or you're prepared to spend a little and be locked in to a fairly narrow role for a while, free to play is quite good. If you want to play a diverse selection of roles you're better off just buying a game outright.

I wish that every racing game has RR3 maintenance style, you just have to wait for it to be done. This would give more immersion to the games and people would race casiously online.

I think I know who the guy in the 'greatness video' is...I watch a show called 'Vegas' on Sky Atlantic, its on every Thursday at 10 and he plays a character in it, I think his name is Taylor Hadely...

The Playstation 4 can also use cloud computing, just like the Xbox One :

http://www.polygon.com/2013/6/12/4424022/sony-shuhei-yoshida-says-ps4-cloud-computing-calculations

Sony should be marketing this stuff like mad like Microsoft are!! :D

I don't think so. I guess they don't market it because they don't need the angle yet. I think remaining subtle about it is a way to de-value what Microsoft is parading as major feature.

Cloud computing may end up the new buzz word and it also implies always online.

They are games you play for free. Some have microtransactions you can spend money on if you want. Perfect example is Happy Wars. I have not spent a single penny on that game and is one of the best arcade games I have ever played. 👍

The thing is, they know that 99% of people can see through the "power of the cloud" wool that MS is trying to pull over everyone's eyes. They're in a really good position right now, so why bother lying?

One example:

"What is iRacing?
We are the world’s premier PC-based motorsports racing simulation. An iRacing.com membership provides entry into the newest form of competitive motorsport: internet racing. Internet racing is a fun, easy, and inexpensive way for race fans, sim racers and gamers alike to enjoy the thrill of the racetrack from the comfort of their home."

Based on their membership, I guess many don't see the cloud as a bad thing!

It's not a bad thing but the way MS have been saying what it can do is laughable ,They seem to think with cloud the Xbone could transform to a mega power house if they allow the cloud to perform the game calculations and processes which works in theory providing there is no latency and Bandwidth issues ,where cloud could probably only be used to load stuff that doesn't change instantly (generate background fog in a forest scene perhaps)

This is probably nothing but received the below message from amazon today concerning my pre-ordered copy of BF4. I know it was speculation that the PS4 might be released in Nov but thought this was interesting.
