What about ridge racer 7? Wasn't that native 1080p. I personally don't think we will see 4K gaming on PS4, 1080p games will be the norm and the more complex and intricate games get then we could see fps drop to about 30 but basic games may well be 60fps.

Fps doesn't mean a whole lot compared to how the game is made. If the game is made with 30 fps in mind the game will look great. If its made with 60 fps in mind and drops to 30 I will look like crap. Iracing and Pcars are perfect examples of this. Iracing doesn't start being a smooth experience until you can get above 90 fps, while Pcars will look just as smooth at 45 fps. Its all in how its made.

I always thought Wipeout HD is true 1080p, but then I thought about it and realised that that's just crazy, why and how could it be truly 1080p60 when so many other games aren't, and struggle to even top 60fps at 720p? Then I found this: http://www.gamersglobal.com/news/1336. Apparently it is truly 1080p - except for when it isn't - because it dynamically adjusts the resolution on a frame-by-frame basis. That, ladies and gentlemen, is smart use of limited resources.

Stop mention wipeout in PS4 thread, your are cutting my heart in half. :ouch:

Having such powerful system coming without that one game that could be benchmark for all other games, like wipeout HD was for ps3 is just not right.

After just cold restarting my ps3, I thought I'd just bring up a general concern. I understand the more demanding games get and the more sophisticated consoles get the harder it is to make a silky-smooth problem free game. However, with each generation of consoles it seems the number of games which are glitchy grows exponentially. My PS1 didn't have a single glitchy game. The only glitchy games on my PS2 were GTA SA, Vice City, and Test Drive 6. On my PS3 about half the games I own freeze requiring a hard restart at least one in ten plays. Granted this is the responsibility of the developers, and it's partly my fault for continuing to buy games from publishers known to release glitchy games (Bethesda for example). But it makes me concerned about the PS4. If half the games released for PS4 don't run smooth then I'm not sure it's worth it to me to spend several hundred dollars on it, which disappoints me if it turns out to be true.

You are 100% correct. My Genesis STILL works to this day along with my Nintendo. Not including my parents Atari which still works perfect. Each console generation has been worse for sure in terms of reliability. Had some launch issues with the PS2 that were very frustrating. However I honestly never had 1 single problem ever with my original xbox. Never had to wait until a game was patched or wait for an update. Every single game I bought worked perfect. No freezing ever. No issues ever. Yet the 360 has been an unreliable POS. The PS3 has also had quite a few issues. One of mine broke after the 24 hr race in GT5. These are just more reasons I will not be getting either console at launch. I might consider getting a new console in 2014 but not this year. And not at launch for sure.

Not sure if this is entirely related, but I think that software updates have ruined game quality.

For example, I have played a game called FIFA made by EA, which I have played ever since the PS2, and I know exactly what you are talking about. On the PS2, EA games rarely froze or had any issues, however on the PS3 it seems like every game they release has some sort of issue, especially with freezing at the menu's. But most of the time, these are (although in some cases not with EA) fixed via an update.

Update's weren't available for the PS2 as far as I know, which means whatever game developers released, that was their final product and there was nothing they could do about it.
Now however, developers know full well they have the ability to alter their games should any problems arise, so they feel they can release a rushed, broken game to make their money quickly, and then update it later on.

I must point out that I specifically called out EA because they are the main culprits of this, as they are complete robbing 🤬 who produce broken games all of the time, with servers that are pathetic.

That's exactly the problem with games today. As much as I love online gaming it has also ruined the quality of the games produced. As you said they have no need to finish the game before release. How many games these days come with day one patches. The developer new it wasn't right went they sent the game to get printed. Sometimes if the game doesn't meet sales they just stop with the patches altogether (EA Shift 2) and abandon the game.

Thats because resolution matters little when it comes to overall picture quality. Higher resolution is nice to have, but doesn't make the game at the end of the day. Take wipeout for example, you'd probably be hard pressed to tell the difference between 720p and 1080p resolutions on a tv.

I disagree, if you compare a 720p image side-by-side with a 1080p one there is a huge amount of difference, but technically speaking it's not the resolution that matters, it's the pixel density. A 720p image on a 48" TV will have physically bigger pixels than a 1080p image on a 48" TV, so the 1080p image looks sharper. Compare a 720p image on a 27" TV with the 1080p image on the 48" TV and you might find the 720p image to be sharper with less noticeable aliasing. Maybe, anyway.

But you're right, resolution - or graphics at all, for that matter - don't make or break a game... At least as long as the graphics aren't just terrible because the developer couldn't be bothered. It's more about art style, which is why I still love playing MGS even now.

Fps doesn't mean a whole lot compared to how the game is made. If the game is made with 30 fps in mind the game will look great. If its made with 60 fps in mind and drops to 30 I will look like crap. I don't know, I think your eyes get used to certain things. As a console gamer I didn't know what screen tearing was, didn't care about frame rate drops and yeah, was generally oblivious to most things. Since switching to PC gaming, 30fps actually makes me feel a bit weird (it's not quite motion sickness, but it feels similar) and instability in the frame rate is very noticeable. And the difference between 45fps and 60 in Project CARS is very noticeable, to me anyway. It's a subjective perception, I think.

I didn't mean them numbers where optimal just the minimum for decent game play. I have Iracing locked @ 123 fps, because it looks MUCH better at that then 90 fps. I try to keep pcars above 60 as well for better visual experience. If I drop below the minimums I listed my game stutters like Im watching a slide show.

I also didn't notice the issues when console gaming, but then I switched to PC and read some post about it and now I see it everywhere. :ouch: Sometimes ignorance is bliss.

"With Sony publicly admitting that it has Oculus Rift dev kits in the office and Shuhei Yoshida proclaiming himself a fan, our sister mag T3 has produced an exclusive concept render of PS4′s first VR head-mounted display."

A sequence in the video also gives an example of how Killzone: Shadow Fall and Driveclub would play if viewed through PS4′s Oculus Rift.

Too high. I could maybe see $150, perhaps even $200 but thats it. Its just a small monitor with straps so it can attach to your head.

You have absolutely no idea. It's a monitor, lenses, motion sensors, software... Lots of highly specialised engineering went into the Rift, there's no way it would be $100. Even if it was just a monitor.

That would be because CoD looks and plays like utter 🤬.
Same garbage realeased every single year. A cancer to the gamer industry.

Their presentation back at the XBOX One conference was laughable, showing their completely lack of innovation and competence in every single department. Talking about idiotic crap like fish moving away when you swim towards them, as if that was some new and mindblowing AI. Pathetic.

CoD is pathetic and deserves no praise. The day the franchise is canned, as well as the people who make it, is the day the game industry becomes 10 times better.

Say what you want but in a gaming era of "First Person Shooters" COD is the king in sales and most played. I know success doesn't always equal quality but just because it isn't your game of choice doesn't mean it's "****". Oh and people from the COD did get canned they went to EA...you want to open this can of worms about a company that is horrible for gaming thats who you need to talk about. Not Activision just because they got lucky and stumbled upon an idea the caught on.

Plus it could be the solution for those who use a steering wheel and feel that seeing the in-game driver's hands and steering wheel interferes with their driving.

Yup, there's a lot of kids in the gaming market who just love shooters, regardless of quality. Of course I'm aware that there are also some adults who play it, and for what reason, I simply do not understand. Funny thing is that not a single person I've ever debatted with on the topic, has had any arguements what so ever on why the game is good. The story is crap. Same goes for the graphics and sound design, which has hardly been improved for next generation. Gameplay is horrible outdated, dating all the way back to the original Modern Warfare. AI is nonexistant, and online is just grenade spamming, corner camping, unbalanced rubbish. And again, the exact same online experience can be found in numerous other games.
And that's not getting started on the map packs that in total, cost as much as the game it self. Yup, there is no shortage of idiots.

2 people got left out of greed and disagreements. Every one of those talentless hacks should be fired.

I think you might have to wait, the Rift is supposed to be out some time in 2014. I'm really interested in one for my PC and the PS4 I'll buy in 2-3 years when the price drops.

I used to.play COD online in the PS3, it was a lot of fun to.me and i was kinda good playing so i liked to play it.
Then i bought BF3, and my first thought was "this is way better than cod"+"EA is a money maker machine ", but doesn't imply that CoD is bad, it's a simple game that's fun to play online.

But this is not a cod thread anyway haha.

I'll buy the ps4 with gt7 as i.did with the ps3 and gt5.

My guess would be because they like it.

What constitutes a talentless hack? They obviously have some, the game is decently successful and, in my opinion, can be quite enjoyable.

Don't get me wrong, I much prefer Battlefield. However, there are people who enjoy Call of Duty, and I see nothing wrong with that, and since this isn't a Call of Duty thread, I'll leave it at this.

I would like to see PS4 support Dualshock 3 too.
It'd be nice, but I wouldn't care for it, the new controller looks like it'll be a bit more comfortable in the hands anyway.
