So my PS3 pulse headset won't work with the PS4?
it looks like the only headset that will allow you to chat at launch is the one that comes with the ps4. If this is like post update feature patches for the ps3, it could be a long time before anything but the earbud works.

I also seem that the mic on it gets attached to your clothing. This may be a game breaker for me. I was planning ps4 than Xbox later but I might have to switch it around now.

According to that article you can use it for sound in game but you won't be able to use it for chat until they release a patch. I was worried about using my Astro's with the PS4 but it seems like it won't be a problem, I'll just have to wait a bit longer to use them to chat with my buddies.

As long as I can use it for in-game sound then that's fine by me. A patch for the chat feature sounds reasonable.

Journey and Flower will be transfered to PS4. AMAZING.

it sounds terrible to me. I was really hoping they got their online experience together. If basic chat with headsets is broken then how am I suppose to assume anything else they have shown will work. This seems like the most basic of things. I can't believe it's screwed up this close to launch and they don't seem confident that they can fix chat within 1 month. It must be a major problem and not a quick fix.

You might wanna wait on that...

Yesterday, we received a note from Astro Gaming (whom we've recently spoken with about next-gen audio) indicating that their headsets will work for chat on the PlayStation 4… just not right away. This prompted us to dig a little deeper and find out what gaming headset owners can expect on November 15.

The answer we received from Sony is complicated. If you have a Sony-branded PULSE gaming headset (or the elite edition of that product), you will need to wait for a system update coming in the future. It seems that those will not work at all at launch.

Any other headset that relies on bluetooth for chat will not work at all. If you have something that relies on USB for chat (like the Astro mixamps and Astro A50 wireless system), you'll eventually be able to use those. An update will be coming in the future.

Any headset that relies on digital optical for game audio will continue to provide that out of the box. You just won't be able to chat yet.

The situation is similar for the Xbox One. The connector on the controller is completely different, and until Microsoft delivers the adapter it has promised, you won't be able chat using legacy devices. Both the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 will come with a headset in the box, and there's always the option to use the Kinect as a microphone (but if you have dogs or kids, please don't).

It seems to me that neither system will be able to take advantage of our existing headsets at launch. With Sony it seems like a simple patch is all that will be needed to get them to work, with the Xbone you may need to actually purchase an adapter.

It can't possibly be major when it's limited to a simple bit of programming and download to the console. I'm not too worried because I also don't expect the PS4 online community to be that saturated at release anyway. I agree though that there really shouldn't be any excuse for not already having this up to speed by the release, but then again it's Sony so I won't put anything past them.

Here's my problem. I am in no way a die hard fan of either so I want the best online console. If Sony hasn't been able to get chat to work right since they announced in June that any headset would work, why should I think they ever will. I really, really want to go ps4 first but this seems like a really bad time to announce something to do with chat so late after how terrible the ps3 chat is. Wouldn't you think if it was an easy patch it would have been done by now. The obviously knew it wouldn't work when they announced it so why even announce it. This makes sony look really shady to me. What else have they been lying about for the last 6 months.

Well let's just consider some programming... you have a wireless USB, with also the possibility of wired headset (in my case the Pulse headset can use either). Clearly the code already exists that allows this headset to work with the PS3, and there really isn't much to a program with those parameters. Yes, I think can be fixed in a short time. I can for example, use my Pulse headset with my PC. The PS4 is not really any different.

I think you're jumping the gun here. Also, both companies are large corporations so 'shady' comes with the territory. Dollar sign is the bottom line. Also, I think Sony has a lot more to lose as they were already in recent financial trouble. Whether that means they're more motivated to put out a solid product and build from the PS4, or whether they are scaling back the quality of their production to pay less in payroll, we'll just have to see.

i just have really high hopes for the ps4 online. This is a major mess up to me. I know their not out yet or anything and maybe it is an easy fix but if it was you would think it would be fixed already.

I'm just excited. It's still early. It's just been a long time since a new console and I'm ready to go.

I hear you. There can be a lot of red tape though with things like this which could delay the patch. There's still some time though.

Why? Play games in the nude?

Firstly, you will be able to use the chat function on day one. You just won't have much choice when it comes to headsets for a while. Secondly, I really wouldn't let something so small sway my opinion. From the news coming out from Sony and MS, it's clear that both consoles will be fairly limited at launch. The PS3* has improved massively since it launched and I have no doubts that the PS4 will be the same.

* = I never owned a 360, but I'm guessing that it has also improved over the course of its lifespan.

Funny thing about headsets, Battlefield's Facebook page is promoting a new headset. Found out they have comments disabled when I tried to raise this comparability issue needs to be clarified.

I wonder if this headset issue is why they decided to bundle headsets with it?

That so stupid. Sony already had three official headsets, first one and two Pulse. And they are good, well Pulse are so why they want to replace with those earplugs with cables connected into DualShock_4 ??

Only good thing about that deal is new headset is coming with PS_4, i don't have to buy it separately. Like HDMI cable, finally !!!

Cheaper

Am I going to hell for laughing at what you said?

Probably not.

Louis CK.
Slavery it's the worse thing that ever happens. Every time it's happens, black people in America, Jews in Egypt. Every time a race of people is been enslaved it's a terrible the horrible thing.

But maybe every incredible human achievement in history was done with slaves. Every single thing, when you go.... how they build those pyramids? They just throw human death and suffering at them until they were finished.

How we traverse nation with railroads so quickly? We just throw Chinese people in caves and blew them up and didn't give a damn what happen to them. There is no end to what you can do if you don't give a damn about bunch of particular people. You can do anything. That's where human greatness comes from. That we are mean and bad people, that we screw others over.

Even today, how do we have those amazing micro-technology? Because in the factory where they makes these. People jump from the roof because it's a nightmare to them.

We really have a choice. You could have candles and horses and be a little kinder to each-other, or let someone suffer immeasurably far away just to you could play some video games / or leave mean comment on you tube.

I cannot argue with that, no matter how much funny and tragic it is in the same moment.

I wonder how much it cost's how much cheaper PS4 could been without this wired headset. Wired?!? in 21 century ?? 👎 Probably not too much. Like 5$ maybe :grumpy:

Ehm that's the point...

Wireless headsets would've been too expensive and they did want to keep the price as low as possible, that's why they chose that one.

The headset you describe would've made the console too expensive.

As much as I'd like to in this climate, I have a cat that likes to bite.

I hope it doesn't like sausages.

Out of curiousity, I already have headphones like that (Different brand but sort've the same design). Would those be compatible with the Remote?

Remember the Warhawk BT headset? It's still a POS. The one that came with SOCOM is nice and heavy and doesn't sound good either. $25 Logitech USB headset works fine. The cable is long enough from my PS3. I have a USB extension cable anyway.

And? Sony can't just put a 25$ headset into the PS4 package, if it's that what you're trying to say.

It is incomprehensible to me, why Sony makes another Head set specially for PS4 which is worse than it's previous models. I mean both Pulse and first head set are wireless.

Add a little line of code that recognizes sony pulse headset to PS4 firmware 1.0 and problem solved. No money involved !

Why do we have to wait months and numerous updates until finally if ever going to happen sony official head set that works with PS3 could be compatible with PS4.

Haha, you don't honestly think software development is that easy do you?

PS3 backwards compatibility on the new architecture is ... hard.

Just as it was with latter PS3 models and PS2 emulation, is just doesn't work, you have to mod the game because the way the games are programmed(cell architecture) is inherently different to the supercharged PC architecture they're going for this time.

MS doesn't do BC out of greed though, and I still can't get in my head as of why they just don't simply allow it for the next console to have some use. At least they are porting everything they can from PC to PS4, even free to play games to launch the thing properly.

Got any evidence of this? Or is this more the when Sony doesn't do something it's because it's really hard, but when MS doesn't do something it's because of their innate desire to bend the customer over?
