My PS3 with latest FW 4.51 still works as media server, I use it everyday for music and movies, as well picture viewing ( I connected my PS3 to my laptop which has 3 external HDD with over 4TB total storage ). I also plays my Mp3 using PS3 through my Mordaunt Short Carnival 5.1 speakers with Harman Kardon AVR, it sounds decent enough.
I will have to try it out again later. I could have sworn it was gone. Thanks,

It's also funny how people are happy to listen to their music through laptop/pc/docking station. My 7.1 surround sound system, might as well go in the bin.

All music is engineered and recorded to play back on 2-channels.. ie. stereo, who in their right mind would split that into 7.1 channels. There are VERY few artists and recording studios that have experimented with and released true surround sound albums or singles. The cleanest sound will always come out of a single set of quality speakers. Seems a lot of people don't even know what that means anymore...

^^Ridox, I challenge you to switch your HK receiver to plain stereo and listen to the difference. (or 2.1, make sure you get the crossover setting for the subwoofer correct) :)

I was being sarcastic, thankyou anyway Joe Meek.

You know a multi-channel setup can output stereo as well, right?

Or I can decide which outputs I want, or if I'm playing a game with custom soundtracks, the music comes out of the correct speakers.

That's what I do, I select the appropriate speaker setup for given input source, stereo music, I use 2.1 setting - pass through, no changes, while for gaming, I use 5.1 DTS or DD when available. For movies, the same thing, if it has stereo format, 2.1 stereo, and surround : 5.1 DTS/DD. My Carnival 9 SubWoofer has pretty good bass management when playing in 2.1, I like it a lot.

Scarcasim? I missed it. At least I know who Joe Meek is now, good thing I won't take my wifes life and my own at 38. But you're welcome, I enjoy my music quite alot, just sharing the info and I find it quite hilarious the uproar about mp3 and cd playback when every bloody electronic device can do this these days.

I know this, anyone though with a set of proper ears is bothered by the horrible distortion of mixed frequencies bouncing around the room, it doesn't provide an even clean sound ever, anyones who's into music knows this.

Right on 👍

Apart from the PS4.

Yup currently it stands so, but really who wants to run a PS4 for mp3's? CD's well idk, I doubt even 0.1% of PS4 owners won't have a DVD/CD sitting around. This is also what I think ussr was trying to say, nobody is purchasing a PS4 for this, it's questionable none the less IF Sony deny us this standard music listening feature, doesn't make sense other than drawing a few people into Music Unlimited... I know I'm not in.

You're making things up now, 0.1% of PS4 owners wont have a CD? What is this North Korea?

I would like to upload music to games.

I am for one, would love to play GT7 on PS4 with my own personal music playlist on the PS4 HDD playing in the background while I'm cruising online. I've got some ( A lot ) rare variety songs that Music Unlimited won't probably ever have.

No, I'm not going to buy a PS4 just to play MP3s. But I'm not going to buy a PS4 at all if the only custom soundtrack option is through a paid service Sony will instead sell you because their system is "too advanced" (as ussr would put it) to give you an option to play music off of the hard drive.

lol no, just another device for playback. That's nearly (0.1%) impossible.

Ya I hear you, if it turns out that way for certain I guess we'd have to opt for running a seperate boombox with the tracks we wanna listen to in the background, personally when racing the it's strictly SFX 110%.. true though there would be some backlash from the community.

Basically it would be hard to come to terms with a mashine that is that advanced, yes. I wasn't thinking of BGM when I made the first posts.

I picked up my copy of KZ: Shadowfall today. I'm so ready for the system to be delivered on the 15th. I also was able to hold the DS4 and it felt really nice. I never had much of a problem with the DS3 but this was much better. I can't wait to play a game with it.

It's going to bad hard looking at it for two weeks not able to play it but I live an hour from the store so I didn't want to drive there on release day.

the ps3 is not a media server any longer. The last ps3 update will no longer let you use it as a media server. And also no one that has a quality surround sound uses mp3. I don't think you know what a media server or lossless audio is. No one with nice speakers wants to hook a phone up to the high end audio system and hear junk mp3 files play over their nice speakers. They want to stream their lossless music they have saved on a huge hdd, computer or other device to their AVR.

And why would it matter how many hdmi inputs your tv has? You only need one when you use an AVR with nice speakers.

I'm starting to see which customer it is that's uneducated on technology.

For me the ps3 was a failure as far as gaming goes. I almost strictly play online with real friends and it was terrible for that. It did though have a few great single player exclusives. I assumed the ps4 wouldn't cut out the few things the ps3 did great and that was helping to eliminate the need for a separate media server.

With Microsoft announcing that the xbone will do the streaming and music I can't imagine Sony not patching it in. Hopefully the article is correct posted above.

Your reasoning for not having those features makes no sense at all though. With your logic cell phones should only make calls and to get the features a smart phone has you should need to carry around a cell phone, MP3 player, laptop, gps system, handheld gaming device, and thousands of other tools to be able to enjoy the convenience of a modern phone.

PS3 still has media server capabilities, i don't know what are you talking about. Just watching a movie that is on my laptop. And have latest Journeys.

What i was saying is that PS4 does not need the same features that PS3 already have. Why??? can you give me a sensible reason? At least one? So far i can read on Internet how people moaning and crying for things they probably never use, or they have it already.

Firmware take less space on HDD, that's plus. You could have far more advanced game console that PS3, so why take PS4 backwards.

Not every one had hi-end receiver and seven speakers in their room. So one extra HDMI slot is needed in this case. That's why i was referring to not being educated in connectivity or taking up precious space. Every device need to be connected properly.

But as always people start crying and moaning and look how sony reacts. They actually rethinking of putting it back media server and mp3 player into PS4. Weirdest decision ever, it will hurt the sale of PS3 in the future. Still a lot of great games coming. Including GT6 and MGS5, but it's their decision.

You're just never going to get it are you.

Many of us have already explained why it makes sense to include the same features again, you've just ignored them.l

Dictionary definitions and explaining things with sockpuppets and language a three year old could comprehend has failed in the past. Why waste anymore time? He forms an opinion and immediately concludes that he's 100% correct. In his eyes, you are wrong.

Just let it drop. In the meantime, the rest of us can carry on with our own discussion.

Initially, I thought it was due to the language barrier, but it isn't.

I'm just going to leave it at this. I don't like your opinion, and your method of giving it to people is terrible. I do love your dash cam videos on the Internet though so keep those coming.

I think you're confusing me with someone else. I don't post videos on the Internet. As for ussr, everything I've said was true. He argued that the ps4 hadn't been announced when it had. He then disagreed with dictionary definitions and continued to do so when it was rephrased in simple English. What I'm suggesting is that rather than continue to argue with him (which people are still doing), ignore it and move on. What's so bad about that?

Well, it certainly is fun making him look like a fool as his increasingly outlandish and ignorant declarations continue to come forth as the argument goes on. If for no other reason than to see what argument he tries next.
