I hate that I'm gonna have to wait til next year to get a PS4,but man is it gonna be worth the wait. Gonna be the best Next gen Console hands down.

From what I understand, this Sessler guy was crying about how Next gen consoles should be 1080P but now that the X1 won't be native 1080p he is now saying it's isn't neccessary.

While enjoying a free 60 day trial of Spotify, I was warming up to subscribing to Music Unlimited. That was until I found both services are missing a couple of core artists in the world of rock music. Not having The Beatles and Zeppelin is deplorable! Yes, I know those licenses are stupid expensive. But to force gamers to pay for a music service that doesn't even have the basics is incredibly selfish.

Yes, the update for DNLA & mo3 are good news. Unfortunately, users who don't have internet for whatever reason, will NOT be able to enjoy their own music they have paid for and collected since the mid 80's. Hopefully SONY will be smart enough to support high quality formats and audio resolutions natively.

My son's Super Slim PS3 recently died because he simply unplugged it to move it elsewhere. He plugged it in and it has no power! SONY have sent a box to ship it for servicing. What if it happened next year? His entire PS3 game collection would be worthless. They should've added backward comparability.

I understand many people want to use the PS4 for CD's, MP3's and whatnot but this makes it sound like Sony took your music and all playable devices away from you. You can still enjoy your music on plenty of other devices whether you are on the PS4 or not. I hope that stuff does get patched in soon though.

If you want to play music on your system, what other option is there? None. Except, there is word of the patch.

It's a game console... Don't get me wrong, being able to play mp3s etc on the console would be nice, but I can live without it for the time being. It's an optional service. And if you absolutely have to listen to music on the PS4, you can always go to youtube.

It's supposed to be the central point of your entertainment universe. Or have you forgotten that? No I'm not being sarcastic.

I think that's the XO your talking about, the PS4 has always been a games console first and Sony have came out to say that.

MS have came out to say that XO is the centre of 'The Living Room' experience.

As far as I'm concerned the PS4 is my games console first so anything extra we get or don't get I won't cry about it.

What happens next year? Buy another PS3? Wait for it to come back from repair? PS3 doesn't stop existing because PS4 is out.

As priesty said, I don't remember a time where Sony said it was the central point of your entertainment universe. They have always pitched it as the center of your gaming universe, with multi screen, multi device gaming features, which I think are far more exciting than MP3 playback.

I've been mention this earlier in this thread. Not being educated enough in terms of technology causes this unnecessary questions. You have mobile phones, mp3 players, your other media devises such as PS3 and computers, laptops.

I feel compassion for your son because he's slim is broke. But how he's entire game collection become worthless ?? He have those games on disc and on psn account if those games were digital purchases. So after sony fix he's ps3 everything should be OK.

PS4 don't need to be backward compatible or capable to read CD disc and play mp3 musics. It only needs to be game console which runs video games. Especially when PS3 already have all those media capabilities. You won't need those in PS4 after all.

I think the main reason why people (including myself) are not happy with the lack of MP3 playback is for custom soundtracks in games (that allow it anyway). Especially when one likes to use music tracks from other games in their customized playlists.

They are formats currently being used today so I think it is important they do support it, at least MP3 playback. PS4 will also likely consume a lot less power for media features than PS3. I think also they should add PS1 and PS2 emulation. PS3 will only be needed then for playing PS3 games.

looks smart, much better than the 60gb PS3 inside.

Those guts are very similar to PS3 slim insides.

I hear you, GT5 and Wipeout HD gives you and opportunity to play your own sound tracks. One evening i was playing GT5 on line on Nordschleife using Ferrari 40 during Night time, and as i toked first corner "Road to hell by Chris Rea" started from my custom play list. Man that tuned me into this race. Good times!

Well, how about that, 11 video and entertainment apps at launch.

https://www.facebook.com/PlayStation/posts/10152051415951803

Besides my TV, home theater system, and DVR, my PlayStation IS the center of my entertainment universe. I use it to play games, stream movies through several services, listen to music and watch video with the media server function, play CD's, and even play hi res audio files (24/96) with Unversal Media Server converting those FLAC files on the fly, and of course watch BluRay and DVDs.

If SONY wanted their systems to just play games, the PS4 & PS3 would do just that any only that. But a precedent has been set with PS3 being your entertainment hub. For those of you pooh poohing playing music on your entertainment console, you don't know what you're missing, and that's why you don't care about the functions that will be absent at launch.

For those who don't use Facebook: http://blog.us.playstation.com/2013/11/07/11-digital-entertainment-apps-on-ps4-at-launch-2/

For example, if you're more educated in how local MP3 playback in games is an outdated, backwards bit of technology (presumably inferior to the almighty Cloud), your TV will grow more HDMI ports.

I fully expect the second patch to instead remove Blu Ray playback and all of those things listed by DaveTheStalker above, then.
