just stating the obvious

there is keeping it clean, then there is putting plastic on your couch so you dont spill anything...

do you have plastic on your couch?

Maybe, but check around the Gt3 drifting forum and you'll see why most vets on the forum are anal about this subject. ;)

some things are out of hand! I got banned for a link in my sig to my personal site where I used the Fword 3 times on a page and that earned me a label of BANNED! What ever.... I didnt comply to the rules but a warning is nice ya know!

In a perfect forum, we wouldn't need to have rules like this. But, since people tend to be lazy, insensitive and sometimes illegible we have rules and threads like this.

So if you think it's anal, perhaps it is. But we tried it the other and that REALLY doesn't work.

You fail to mention that you had links to explicit porn sites on your site as well.

Since you've registered twice and agreed to abide by the Acceptable Use Policy

Which states: You will not use profanity in our forums, and will neither post with language or content that is obscene, sexually oriented, or sexually suggestive nor link to sites that contain such content.

You should realize that you were wrong. And at this point it looks like now you're questioning an Admins decision that was based off of published guidelines. Considering that since your return you've not contributed anything of use, I am very specifically asking that you exercise a bit more of your brain in future posting.

I don't know many shortenings like IMAO AFAIK, :dunce: I think that shortenings seem to take less effort, but if I want to say something with like OMG or something, it's not quicker: first I think like "should I shorten it?" and then "yeah let's do that" then I'm gonna pick the right letters while I coul have writen it fully in less time.

Maybe confusing, but typing full goes automatic and shortening takes SOME thinking, not much but as some people like me wouldn't understand and since it's just more effort, just don't oke?

Talking in teh 1337 m4k3s you think alot more.Sometimes it's just faster to use proper english since you don't have to think as much.

And if you're going to put extra thinking effort into your posts, why not put that effort into content instead of 'style'?

well, i dont know what happened in the previous forums,
but i thought that since this was a video game forum that people were going to be cool and chill

instead of nitpicking and flaming on people who speak l33t.
although personally i dont like to look at it, i appreciate that it is different from the norm, but of course like duke said the content is important on what is said in any case.

im just worried that this place will get to the point where i have to be careful on what i say instead of just freely expressing my opinions, i mean what happened to freedom of speech.

but i guess the people on the other forums must have really pissed you guys off.

its just that its a very popular website all over the world, and it needs to be the best. I think if it wasnt kept as organized as it is, people might be turned away because it would be too much of a cluster**** for people to find the information they need.

Actually, we're quite open to a wide variety of opinions, as long as they are well supported and clearly thought out. Spend a half hour or so reading the opinions forum and you'll see.

Glad to have you here, and enjoy your stay

Now honestly, I don't hope there are many other "guests" out there that want to become a member but are scared of because there are "so many rules":guilty:
Think of it this way: someone that speaks poor english should understand what your saying. That's really the basic rule for me, but I hope it doesn't effect the guests too much, cause the forum GTP is >GREAT<

So to any guests out there doubting about if they should become member or not: just try your best at the englisch and there's nothing wrong with it. There are some people that can't really write in englisch but they say along with their post: "sorry for my bad english" and everything is oke:tup:

Just feel free to become a member:sly::)

jsut beacsue you can raed waht I am tpying dsnoe't maen that it's ok for me to tpye tihs way.

Get the idea? How I typed above is really annoying, but because of the way I typed it, namely leaving the first and last letters in place and switching the rest all around, you can still read it. But it's annoying as all get out. Imagine if everyone typed like that.
How is writing EVERYTHING in phonetics any better?

Actually, what s31ender did was recently proven in a document from some college. I'd hunt through the Rumble strip to find it, but it's not worth the time.

He simply proves a point, that didn't need proving.

To be honest I was referring to the whole thread and it's general attitude to non-native english speakers and, indeed, the english language as a whole.

As I am sure you are all aware english is a bastardisation of several other languages and over the centuries has evolved and changed much more than other 'rigid' languages. If you read Chaucer or Shakespeare in their original form you will see that they bare little resemblance to what we now refer to as english.
In fact it is still evolving and changing, new words are added to the 'Oxford english dictionary' every year.

As for it being difficult for non-native english speakers to understand slang terms, I think people may be underestimating the use of slang in other languages and, again indeed, the use of this so called 'l33t speak'.

EDIT: Oh, and if you are going to be so pedantic grammar is never 'decent' merely correct or incorrect.

Good grief....Have you even read this thread at all? There are two main reasons for using "decent" grammar. 1) It makes our forum look much more presentable and less juvenile. 2) We have many members here that are not from America or English isn't their first language.

Yes, English is without a doubt one of the most messed up languages on earth. But since you, myself or anyone else that is on this forum really doesn't have much to do with the "bastardization" of the language, what's your point?

Why use decent grammar? Because we understand that not all members are English majors or Journalists. But we understand the difference between "l33t" speak, slang and reasonably proper English. :)

Relax, nobody is looking for the "Kings English" just respect for all members including those that don't use English for their first language. You should've seen the GT3 drifting forum before something was said to this effect. :yuck:

So you're arguing a point that wasn't up for discussion? And you're expanding it to discuss the entire english language?

In which case, please take this discussion to the Opinions forum. You've stated an exact opinion:

Which would be considerably better discussed in that forum.

Some say "evolved" others say "adapted".

While Swift is a bit more pleasent than I am, still...

Off- topic discussion is over. Please take the direction I've asked you to.

Of course we do, one example is the term 'noob' which is used extensively in this forum.

Sorry, this post is so bad I just had to show you guys. This was in a recent post I saw:

th cornerin speeds u can take with th audi r immense!!! i also fink tht th clk-gtr is not as th gud on th game as it was in real life. got it up to 282mph with it fully tuned!!!

jebus... >.<

that is horrible.

I agree with the thread starter, there oughtta be some measure taken against typing jibberish... some of these people have zero online etiquette.

I dont know why some of you attribute the problem to people who arent native to english, as far as I know they are the ones who tend to have better grammar skills... :)

That's a sad truth..:(

Actually, I think the point is that people who know how to speak proper English should. There's no problem with someone who doesn't know English that well (not their first language or whatever) messing up. That's to be expected and there's nothing wrong with that. At least they're trying to be understood. The problem is people who know English and choose not to use it. I've seen posts that should be paragraphs and there's not a single period in the entire thing. It takes about 1/10th of a second to hit "." and the spacebar. Try it, you just might like it. I know everyone else will appreciate it.
Oh, and Okoj (who is banned, interesting), if you're going to try to sound smart, at least use the right words. It's "bear", not "bare". Like when you're stopping a car, it's "brake", not "break". Putting a "break" pedal in a car is just asking for trouble!

I, Agree with all of you on this people need to use decent grammar we are all old enough to know how to so people that are lazy like this: "hi how r u doing" need to stop being lazy and use grammar like hi mate how are you doing today 👍
