My friends and I play quarter poker on wednesday nights. Quarters are enough to keep it interesting but it's not so much money to really make someone go broke.

Do you guys play poker?

Yeah,.. our family gets together a couple times a year, and my buddies and I get together on X-mas eve.

Biggest pots come during Mexican Stud (5 card stud, roll your own, kings or better). But my favorite game is probably 'queens and what follows'.

Do you guys play much wildcard poker LM?

Back in High school it was a big deal to play strip Poker. Which lead to the last option usually, after separating from the rest of the group of course. Now, I barely ever play.

Use to when I was single. We had poker night at a house I rented with another guy I went to college with.
My roommate lost all his check he was going to get the next week plus his income tax check he was going to get in one night. I think I gained about 10 bucks that night..

Actually we do play a few. Our "queens and what follows" is refered to in our group as "Follow the ladies", which is the polite way of saying "Follow the *****". (:

We also play a game called 3-5-7. Everyone is dealt three card and threes are wild. In a "3,2,1,Drop" count down everyone decides if they're going to hold or drop. Of the people who hold they compare hands - losers pay the winner equal to the pot. Then two more cards are dealt and fives are wild. Repeat. Two more cards and sevens are wild. Repeat. Then start over. Oh, you also get three "toes". Remove a toe if you're the only one holding on a drop. First person to lose all their toes takes the pot. Ante each time the cards are taken and redealt.

High Chicago is another fun one. It's like 7 card stud, but the person with the highest spade face down takes half the pot. This allows the game to have two winners, which keeps friendly poker more fun because there is a better chance of winning.

Oh, Gay Low Card Wild is a good game. Another 7 card stud variant where you're dealt three and roll one to the table. Continue until you have four face up. The lowest card in your hand and all its matches, face up or in your hand, are wild. You can get some really great hands in that game.

We also play African American Nines - the polite variant name for ****** Nines. It's kind of a 5 card draw I guess. One player at a time is dealt a card - they can chose to keep it or take another which must be kept. One card to everyone, bet, repeat until everyone has five cards. Nines are wild. I don't think we've figured out a strategy for that one yet (:

There's the classic Texas Hold`em. Everyone is dealt two cards, bet, and then five are rolled in the middle as 3, bet, 1, bet, 1, bet. Another version of this is Omaha Hold`em where everyone is dealt four cards and must use exactly two from their hand. It's a ***** when you've got three good cards in your hand or there are four cards on the table you want to use. (:

We're looking for new games though, always. I guess I could research on the web a little and show up next week with some cool new games.

I played just last weekend. We played every game that LoudMusic mentioned above plus a game called criss-cross. I hate that 3-5-7 now. I lost over seven bucks on one hand (that's a lot for me).

I don't even know the rules of Poker...so i chose not to vote on the poll.

I only plaied for money like 3 times in my life. My little sisters and I used to play with the poker chips I got from my marbrlo miles when I was 15( yes I lied about my age)that was always fun............and I would like to learn how to play that" follow the laides" you were talking about loadmusic

AHHHHH HA!

We play two games quite similar, though I didnt explain cause I didnt think they we popular.

We play "Bullet" - 1,2,3 drop with 3's and 9's, match the pot. And we also play "Guts", where there are no wilds but play with straights and flushes. Those two games can make ya or break ya in one hand alone, just depends on if your playin "no burn limit" or not ;) :D :D :D

Follow The Ladies

Ante

Deal seven cards face down to all players - no one looks at their cards. Roll one card from the top of the deck in the middle of the table.

First person rolls cards until they have a better 'hand' showing than the card in the middle. Everyone bets.

Next person rolls cards until they have the best hand showing. Everyone bets.

Continue until all cards are rolled or the person with the best hand is the only one with face down cards.

Now what makes it interesting is the card rolled following a Queen is wild, and wild for everyone - if a seven follows a queen, all sevens are wild and any old wild is no longer wild. So a lousy hand can become better if someone makes one of your cards wild, and a good hand can become nothing really quickly. An important thing to remember is if someone rolls a queen which gives them the best showing hand, the next person to roll a card instantly has a wild. Additionally, if the last card rolled in a hand is a queen, the top card from the deck is rolled to make a new wild.

Ahhhh,.. same, but different (Queen and...).

We do it like this:

Ante

Deal two down then one up, bet, then one round at a time, with bets inbetween.

If there is no queen that gets turned up by the 6th card, we start over because the 7th card is always dealt face down.

If the very last card thats 'up' is a queen,.... we have no second wild.

Are you familiar with the rules of poker? The order of winning hands?

Poker hands are comprised of five cards, even if you are dealt more than that, you only use five of them to build your "poker hand".

Royal Flush - Ace through 10 of the same suit.
Straight Flush - five cards in a row of the same suit.
Four of a kind - four cards same rank.
Full House - three of a kind and two of a kind.
Three of a kind - three cards of the same rank.
Two Pair - A pair and another pair.
A Pair - one pair ...
High card - When you have five cards that don't have anything in common, your highest card is the best thing you have.

Then there are several different types of card games that use poker rules. My group of friends plays so often that we're actually getting tired of our list of games and are looking for some new stuff to try out.

HOLY THREAD REVIVAL BY ME!! :D:D:D:D:D This is what happens when you use search engine. ;)

Okay guys, since it's been 5yrs since the last post about this subject I thought I'd bring it back to light and ask the following things:

1. Do you play Poker (Hold'Em, Stud, Omaha, Razz)???
2. If you do, do you play online??
3. If so, which sites do you visit??
4. What's your username on that site??

It would be good to see who actually loves playing poker and who plays it for a hobby and also we could gather a few GTPlanet players together for a sit & go or private tournament between ourselves on one of their sites.

For me it's like this:
1. Yes
2. Yes
3. Pokerstars & 888.com primarily.
4. SidepotOfBud

So, who's a card shark here?? :D

Played for fun in primary school...but never for real.

When I glanced at option number one I thought it said...'Yes, I'm and idiot' :p

EDIT: Didnt realise this thread was 5 years of age...

I used to play online a lot, but I stopped for some reason. I want to get back into it at some stage but it’s a real time drainer.

Nice work on the thread revival 👍

1. Yes, all sorts of different versions
2. Yes, exclusively at Full Tilt these days
3. Full Tilt
4. MisterWeary

You can find me in a 250 or 2000 play money 90 player tournament fairly regularly :)

There's no option for people who just don't like poker. I know what it is so the last doesn't apply, and gambling with a few friends I have no issues with.
