The desire to remain a part of an exclusive group is pretty close to elitism, though - the desire to retain a certain privilege that by its nature excludes all others is elitist. So it really depends on whether you consider those cars to be a "privilege". Note that I assign no emotion to the idea of elitism.

I can see no real intrinsic "value" to those cars, except their aesthetics and their "collectability", for the completionists - unless their real value is linked to the elitism outlined above.

For the record, I don't care about them; I like the look of some of the Stealths, though, and the idea of getting some of the more expensive cars "for free" (in the game, naturally...) isn't bad either. But the value of the latter is marginal, questionable, even doubtful.

I put other, yes I bought GT5 CE, but I think others should get a chance at them only if they have to pay just like I did when I forked over the extra money for the collector edition. Seems fair.

This is my standpoint, too, although I didn't buy the CE in the end, being poor at the time.

I didn't have a PS3 when GT5 was released and only got one 6 months ago. I have not seen a collectors or signature edition in my local store. Being able to purchase the stealth/chromeline and any other region specific cars as DLC would interest me greatly.

Just missing the chromeline Jag and 3 stealths (mazda, audi, merc) to complete my collection.

I wouldn't mind them being offered, even though I paid a crap ton for the CE. I have most of my DLC cars shared anyway, why not let my friends get their own.

It would be nice, however, for PD to give those that bought the SE/CE a little something extra if they do decide to release it.

I wouldn't mind a Chromeline 458 or a Stealth MP4-12C, or something like that.

Just out of interest how much extra were the Signature/Collector Editions over the plain Disc?

Why couldn't they just give the people with the collectors edition free DLC and then sell the chromelines and stealth cars?

^^THIS!!^^
I tried getting the Collectors Edition but it was all sold out in the US, so I wasn't able to get the chrome line cars, which isn't fair at all. We should be able to get these cars as DLC.

Collectors was a little over $100 (maybe thinking tax included), and I think the SE was between 150-200, but the SE wasn't offered in the US.

You may have them set to online but no-one can borrow them infortunately

I expected this. Petty minded elitism, if you ask me.

but the self-important people would come out of the woodworks to protest it.

Not sure why this negative approach is needed. Perhaps a good majority of the people who bought the collectors and special editions have a sense of "self-importance " or "elitism", but a majority of us, especially the elder crowd, bought these editions for one purpose, the collection of it. I would be quite outraged if PD decided to start pawning off portions of a complete edition that many of us went out of our way to obtain. It would, effectively, take away from it's rarity.
I'm an avid baseball collector, so I'll use this as an analogy:
Let's say upper deck runs a promo for a Frank Thomas collection set, limited to 1,000 pieces, only available through pre-order. It comes with an autographed card, a piece of his helmet, and a piece of his jersey from his world series game. Only people privy to these items are the preorderers. The autographed cards, however, are inserted into production packs.
Well after six months, they realize the set sold so well, and have a bunch of other pieces leftover, they start selling bits of it to anyone who will pay the price they charge. Well now my collection seems a bit drab, and it's rarity has lost it's appeal and value.

Do I still have the cars and box and trinkets at the end of the day? Yes. Should it matter that everyone else gets a stab at the cars you have for their own collection? Well I suppose not. I'll still live, and quite happily at that.
But if that's how big companies are going to run their promotions for a product they deem rare and collectible, then I think it should be left at that, rare and collectible.

The second option in your poll made me chuckle. Especially as 4 people managed to trade DLC cars

However on a more serious note, before the trading limit, I'm very sure I saw loads of Chromeline XJ13 for sale on a well known internet auction site.

and a European example I can remember surrounds Renault, At the time they were do quite well powering Williams F1 cars. Their top hot hatch was a 1.8 16v model. They then launched a limited edition 2.0 16v 150bhp Clio Williams. And a little later on a Clio Williams 2 and then Clio Williams 3. Buyers of the original were a bit miffed.

However, the codes for these DLCs have been available on an Internet Auction Site pretty well continuously since the launch of GT5. That many people traded them means that the original set has already been devalued - it maybe that if the codes are unused that the set will really be worth anything?

I didn't buy the Signature edition until I found a brand new set for £80, the launch price in UK was £150. The only reason I even bought it at that price, was cause I worked out tha if I sold the items separately, then the cars wouldn't cost so much.

I'd want them to be exclusive, I have the collectors edition, but I would like if the cars would be in the NCD for people who did get the original chromelines and stealth

About £60 for the CE and £150 for the SE, if I remember right. Although you got much more than just DLC with both editions, of course - art cards, the Apex book, scale models, etc.

That gets rid of Exclusivity.. so no

What gets rid of the exclusivity? Seems a bit elitist to me. So because someone may have not had the money to get the CE or was given the regular edition as a gift but can't find the CE for an exchange shouldn't be allowed cause if your elitist standpoint. The region exlcusivity is enough, most people would agree.

USD I paid about $112 dollars when it was all said and done.

They should be available as DLC, because Amazon screwed me over when they decided after purchasing that suddenly I'm no longer entitled to the Stealth car code they promised when I pre-ordered. I really want the Mclaren F1. Already have the collectors edition chrome cars, don't need another set.

I did try to buy the signature edition when It was on sale for cheap, but it sold out before I could make my order, meh.

Whilst I don't own the Special Editions and don't have the Stealth and Chromeline cars, I do think that the owners of these editions should be entitled to some exclusivity regarding these cars. They were 'rewards' for spending more on the special packages, and to offer them out to everyone would take part of that away.

Having said that there is the idea that there is a grace period where after a certain time it wouldn't matter too much if they were offered out as DLC, because the 'newness' and elite nature of the cars has been watered down somewhat by expanding garages, other DLC and regional prize cars. Offering something that was included in an exclusive package a year ago to everyone for a nominal fee wouldn't be too bad IMO. The special guys have had over a year of using them exclusively now, maybe we could have a go?

No it wouldn't, we got a game booklet that teaches you alot on cars and how key components work, we got a scale model car (varies from region) a GT5 key chain and a certificate that shows we bought the CE additon game. Not having exclusivity on a few cars that came with the pack isn't that big of a deal. Especially when that diecast car we got can be bought on certain model websites.

I know, I bought one

Just tried the facebook game again, got a code ... and it worked!
So I also have it! Quite pleased about that to be honest!!

Having said that, it does feel quite unfair, that others either can't get it (because the codes generated don't work) or can't get it because it isn't available outside the EU

Already have a few (F1, GTR, NSX), but I'd love to have the 787B and SLS.

Not going to pay 60$ for a set of cars that only have a special paint job. 15$? Pushing it, but yes.

And to the snobby Sig/Collector Ed. guys: You paid extra for the cars, books, keychains, stickers, and diecast cars. Figuring the Sig Ed. was, what, 150$? $20 for the book, $60 for the game, a good $50 or so for the car, $5 or so for the extras, and roughly $15 for the cars.

And yes, I :censored:ing hate exclusivity when it comes to a VIDEO GAME.
