On a scale of 1-10 I would give Gran Turismo 5 a . . .

That's probably the biggest flaw, but meh.

Disable the HUD and take the classic Fiat 500 to the Nurburgring 24H circuit. Enter the one-make race, give the opponents a 30 second lead and just enjoy the beauty of it all. The accelerated day/night cycle means it'll be dark by the time you're halfway through the lap, and it's just such a breathtaking experience.
Doesn't solve the racing issue, but I just thought I'd share that.

But if that's what you actually WANT to do, doesn't it grind your gears there's so little content in the game where you can DO that?

Where's a nice drive in the countryside? No matter HOW good the 'Ring is, it's like going back to the same vacation spot year in, year out and doing EXACTLY the same thing every time...

OK, yeah. No matter which way you look at it, the career is pitiful. The figures in your signature speak for themselves, and that is my biggest issue with the game.

I'm actually very concerned that now PD have discovered multiplayer gaming, they're going give the career mode less of a role in the game. It's happened with Call of Duty and I absolutely detest games for it. The career is another defining point of the GT series and that we haven't got the 600+ events we were all expecting is a huge disappointment.

Unfortunately, that's one of those things that can't be amended with a patch, so for now I'm just enjoying what we've got, and sincerely hoping things are better next time around. So yeah, it really does grind my gears, but I love the series too much to be put off by it.

Sorry, but adding in 400+ more A-Spec races, with reward cars for each is the EASIEST thing PD could do with an update.

Look at A-Spec now... unlike the Seasonals, there's no fancy cut-scene intro. All you need to make an A-Spec race is a track, a bunch of Typical Opponents, and a reward car (there's at LEAST 400 left in the game not already reward cars), and a picture for the Lobby.

I could come up with 100 in an afternoon. PD can't be bothered to give ONE guy a job for a few days, to answer the #1 complaint about the game. It's absurd. If it wasn't so tragic, it would be funny...

Remember that the career is complete in itself, so adding too much might unbalance it or make the whole thing seem disorganised and messy.

Tell you what, I know we're not meant to advertise our own threads, but take a look here for my proposed solution. I think it's the only possible way PD can convincingly extend the single player career. Take a look.

I voted for 8.5 - 9.

Online is a great, great addition to the game to make up for the poor AI performance and short A-Spec. Thank god for online! 👍

I would give it a perfect 10 if AI is better and A-Spec is bigger with more races and events.

Please focus on AI and A-Spec for GT6, PD. (and of course, keep online too!)

Patch 1.06 really boosted my opinion of GT5. It's gone from a 9 to a 9.5 now. As long as PD keeps addressing the issues with the game, it'll be a 10 soon enough.

I'm sure there was a thread like this, but not with a poll.

Anyways, 8/10. It's been improving with updates, but it doesn't match up to the previous ones.

8.0/8.5 Based purely on the lack of A-Spec events, would get a 9.6 if it had the events from GT4. I can live with the other issues because the driving is bliss, the premium cars are spectacular, and the addition of Lambo's and Ferrari's 👍 GT series is still my favorite of all racers.

You WERE being facetious, weren't you?

People are grinding interminably to level up. And, there's no such thing as a 'career' in the game. Are you talking about GT5? :yuck:

The thing is already unbalanced, disorganized and messy. Adding back enough races to a) never HAVE to repeat a race if you don't want to, and b) get 75% of the cars by racing, rather than grinding or duping would only ADD to it, IMO

Something i have noticed in every GT game that comes out for each console (ps1, ps2 and ps3) the first one is always the worst..

GT2 was a great improvement on the original GT, GT3 was good but GT4 was much better so i am expecting that when GT6 comes out (im not sure if its for the ps3 though) it will be much better than GT5. (I am not saying the the original GT was a bad game, i loved it but GT2 was better.)

GT3 was the best one. This fact is incontrovertible and cannot be disputed.

This game to me is a 9. Things like grinding to level up can be really irritating. Some of the cars are too expensive. Like how you want sell a lamboughini muira for 10 mil credits. Silly things like this is what stops this game from being a 10. I personally like the online racing.

IMHO, I noticed that the Gran Turismo games with an "even number" (GT2, GT4) are better than their "odd number" (GT1,GT3) counterparts. Hopefully GT6 will be way better than GT5. :)

This is true and I'm sure GT6 will have a ton of events and more tracks. It seems like the odd number games are just a warm up. The even number games are the great ones. I was hoping GT5 would break that mold, but I wasn't surprised that it didn't. In comparison to GT1 and GT3, GT5 is as expected.

Dude, you gotta be positive about something :)

If you want a better career, the only possible way to do that is to do it yourself. That means you make your own events so focus the career on whatever you want, be it Kei cars around the Nurburgring or a 24 hour Group C race around Autumn Ring Mini.

Two extreme (and weird) examples there, but you get the idea. Please check my thread out. I stress again, I'm not trying to advertise it, but the solution is there if you want it.

9-9.5 for me, probably closer to a flat 9. It would be a 10 if there were more regular A-Spec events. The Seasonals are nice though - even if I get bored and move on to something else, there's a few new races once a week to keep me coming back.

I voted 7.8-8.0 and thats being generous. The standard cars truly ruined this game for me. How can you have a simulation game to simulate driving, without having an interior view looking through the windshield???!! :ouch:
How much of your interior (and how many steering wheels) do you see when driving a real car? 💡

8.5 - 9

I think the game is almost perfect, but there are some small things to shave, like:

- the lack of support on the most popular racing wheel like the Logitech G27/25;
- Head-Tracking with PS Eye works only on practice and arcade;
- 24-hour without mating with your own spec-b drivers;

I love it, I'm LV35A / LV37B.

It's about a 7.5. Online races are typically great, but there is a lot to improve. PP really helped a lot, but I have no idea why you need to choose between PP and power/weight. I also don't know why they include downforce in PP and yet don't include race flywheel and other such modifications.

On physics, GT still has a lot of small errors that just shouldn't be there at this point. Where is the added drag from downforce? Why are tires the only thing that determine grip? Brake fade?

And then there's GT Mode, that they still force you to play.

Same here, and I expect the 8.5 to climb.

It's interesting to hear people complain about the grind in GT5 as they look fondly back at GT4. What prevents you from going back and racing the same race in GT5 using a lower-powered car, or a car with worse tires? Doing so in GT4 wasn't a grind?

You make about the same money per minute 'grinding' in GT5 as you did in GT4 when selling the prize car, but GT4 was so much better? You're doing the same thing.

I apologize, PinkCrusade -- not trying to single you out at all. You happen to bring up points mentioned by others, and I'm hoping to find out what I'm missing in that viewpoint.

No problems, I can explain:tup:

I really loved the A-spec points in GT4 and I never had to grind anything in order to finish the game 100% - it was fun to try to get 200 points in the race and there was a lot more races - it never seemed like grinding even if I repeated a race a few times.

In GT4 I used races like the DTM series in b-spec to make fast money, I was never short of cash. If you consider the ability to compress the b-spec in GT4 there is nothing in GT5 that offers close to the money for the time. The credit payouts in GT5 b-spec are lousy, I only do b-spec for xp to open up my remaining endurance races. I'll do the dream car series for credits but I have no interest in doing it 12 times in order to get a Ferrari F1 car.

I'm currently at 95% complete with lvl 32 a-spec and level 29 b-spec - I doubt I will ever complete this game 100% unless PD introduces a game save feature for endurance races. Even if they do, it will take forever to finish and I'll be grinding the same races over and over. This makes GT5 very disppointing and causes me to give it a low rating. GT4 was a much better game overall in my opinion, I wish PD would have released it for the PS3 instead of GT5.

7.5

any higher and i would look Stupid :dopey:
I gave it an 8.5 - 9, and frankly what you think doesn't matter to me one bit. :sly:

I'll bother to explain my choice another day, because once again I'm late for bed.

I've mentioned a few times before that I really do enjoy the game, but I'm going to withheld my vote until the 1.07 update and see if it addresses anymore complaints I have with the game.

6.8 because look at my sig. If a-spec wasn't such a pathetic joke, and was AT LEAST as big as GT4, I would give it an 8.5.

GT5 has so much potential, but Kaz and PD would rather work on stupid stuff than give us a proper career mode.

Did you think about that before posting?

I think the interior view is very pretty, but fails to add any realism. It's probably what kids in the back seat are used to see, but from the drivers's seat you would have to actively turn your head to see that much of the interior. I also already have a wheel in my hands, I don't need another one on the screen. The screen should be like your windshield, so to me "bumper cam" feels far more realistic.

7.5-8

Would be higher if there were leaderboards. I think a lot of the cars are very far off the mark of how they drive in reality. Too much wasted time, Used Dealership being the worst.

A Spec is too short. B Spec doesn't belong in the game.
