I have the best pencil, its a special architecture drafting pencil, sleek brushed aluminium case, it takes 2mm retractible leads of various denominations (4H, 2H, HB, 2B, 4B etc etc (you get the idea)) and if you break the point off, it has its own precision sharpener that makes it as sharp as a page of oscar wilde witicisms that's been dipped in lemon juice and stuck into someone's eye.

I win!

On topic - my pencil has better build quality (for what its supposed to do) than most American cars.

Edit: To fit the stated requirements above, my opinion on jet fighters is that the F-22 Raptor is pure sex, and the old Tomcats are cool, but flaunt latent homosexual tendencies after "Top Gun".
On the subject of women, Jessica Alba is pure sex also. In a different way to the jet plane. However the cast of Top Gun wouldn't be able to make this distinction.

@ james2097  @top gun.

Couldn't I write with one of the Bolts to my biscayne? It would be.... hmm... 10mm(ish) and sturdy all steel construction.... But you'd have to dip it in rust or grease to keep writing for any prolonged period of time. :dopey:

I think Jessica Alba is pure sex, as is the F-105 Thunderchief. (there's one stuck on a couple pillars as an airport sign off Highway 36- painted in thunderbirds colors)

Not my car. I have 4300 pounds of steel as a car. The thing is a tank. and it gets 20 ish miles to the gallon. And it's 45 years old!

Back on topic, as a totally psychotic idea, GM could bring back the archaic 235 cubic inch 6 cylinder "stovebolt", revise it, and slap on a turbo... Actually, a 235 would sound kinda cool with a turbo, now that I think about it.

They still have the 3800 (235) in fact it's in the Grand Prix and Bonnevilles. By far one of GM's most durable and longest lasting engines. They had the supercharged ones back in the GTP and they were pretty quick. But you are talking about a stovebolt? They were in the old trucks back in the 40's. I don't think that would go over to well with some people.

Yes, the stovebolt. Pwnzor of all engines. Heart of my biscayne. I didn't know the 3800 series was 235 Cuibic inches. hmm. I guess you learn something new every day. :)

I didn't know the 3800 series was 235 Cuibic inches.

It isn't. 3.8L = 231c.i.

And why bring back the ancient Chevrolet straight six (when I say ancient, I mean ancient: it dates to 1929) when GM has a new DOHC I6 which is capable of being turbocharged?

Ok, so then What exactly does 5.0 round out to? Ford says 302, Chevy says 305, Mercedes even says it's 303. Personally, because I'm a chevy guy I think it's 305. How many cubic inches are exactly in 5.0 Liters?

Wait just a minute. Regardless of any homosexual tendences a movie may have displayed, the F-14 is still the coolest fighter ever made, and, until the F/A-22, completely dominated the skies. (And would completely obliterate the F/A-18. A single F-14 could take down a whole flight of F/A-18s before they even spotted it on radar.)

Oh, you guy's are both wrong! F-4 Phantoms and F-15s are the coolest jets ever. Everybody knows this. :sly: McDonnell Douglas!(while it lasted) 👍

305 but there's some breathing room due to rounding. Roughly 302-308.

Mercedes-Benz's 303, Chevrolet's 305, AMC's 304... they're all 5.0L if you round to the closest tenth of a litre.

Ford and Chevrolet's 302s were 4.95L, right on the cusp of 4.9L->5.0L. They should round down to 4.9L though, as they're both slightly smaller than 4.95L (Ford's was something like 4.949L, while Chevrolet's was something like 4.942L).

Pontiac's 301 on the other hand was distinctly 4.9L.

One liter (1000 cubic centimeters) is sixty and two-thirds cubic inches.

Some of the more common ones, and their approximations:

2.5: 153
3.0: 181
3.3: 202
3.5: 215
4.2: 256

I guess since I made the suggestion, I ought to chime in. Elizabeth Hurley, and the F-14. There are only 2 faster fighter jets--the mig 25 and the F-15, and the F-14 can take them both--lots better manuverability. Plus, can you say 6 Phoenix missiles from 120+miles away? Incoming at more than mach 5? Read the climax to Tom Clancy's Debt of Honor--they completely neutralize the attack without even coming close to even SEEING the jets (F-15s? I don't remember) they are shooting at.

I still say F-105. And I also say Stacy Kiebler. Also, Isn't the MiG-31 Foxbat faster than the F-15 and MiG-25?

And Can't a Sukhoi Su-27 outmaneuver almost anything? No, I'm not an Advocate of the Russian Airforce, just show me another plane that can pull off the Pugachev "cobra".

And, I can say "6 Phoenix missiles from 120+ miles away."

Didn't AMC have a 304 or a 301, or something like that?

Actually, the MiG-25 WAS the Foxbat. Looks like the MiG-31 was called the Foxhound, and even though it WAS an updated version of the Foxbat, it was actually slower. It did have better range, though, and was still faster than an F-14. And if we don't knock this off, we'll have to start a new thread.

On Pontiacs, what song is in the new G6 commercial?

And also I found a front bumper to a gold Bonneville SSEi.

neanderthal
bah humbug all this jet talk, lets get back to pontiacs.

the SR-71 blackbird ruled all.
Well, if that wasn't a great contradiction....

Anyway, I just got the June Issue of Automobile Magazine, which did a small quote on Bob Lutz, a guy with a big stick to swing inside GM.

' GM's Bob Lutz set business wires burning by refering to both Pontiac and Buick as "damaged brands." GM flacks enter full spin-doctor mode.'

This cannot be good at all..... :nervous:

The same issue did an article on the New Shelby GT500 and the Charger SRT-8. Looks very promising for muscle-freaks in the land of smoking rubber. 👍

And we can turn Jim Queen into a garden, since he bulldozed a parking lot in Warren to make a garden since he didn't like looking at a parking lot. Now I have to get to work about an hour early to get a spot that's not 1/4 mile away from my office.

so is the GM bureaucracy too big for even one like bob lutz (progenitor of the BMW 3.0 csl "batmobile", viper, 1993 ram, solstice (fingers crossed that GM didnt screw up) among other things)

I promise, one last fly-by. :D

No 'swing' wings on the F-15 loses points for style (over the F-14).
Grumman X-29 has got to be right up there for coolness. Forward swept wings!

All I can say about Pontiac - the new Trans-Am had better be AWESOME, otherwise it'll just be another avenue they throw money they won't get back!

What about a cool concept car that has, on purpose, the most complex folding mechanism for the doors opening yet devised! (the wacky planes inspired me) It would automatically make sure the car was remembered fondly, just like the Delorean (doors only saving grace). Pity its about as rational as sitting next to a bee-hive and smearing your face in jam (jelly).

I really miss the days when new cars might have some really unique new design feature that grabbed everyone's attention. Is there anything obvious left to do that would seem ultra-modern and look really cool? Maybe car design has reached a point where we know what configuration/s are practical etc and the basic shape of the 'car' as a concept won't really change, well not until we're all on hydrogen and the layout can be changed massively...

New cars just don't excite like they used to. I'd love someone to make a car that really knocks me for six...and makes everyone go "WOW!" Can you guys think of any innovation that has really wowed you lately?

I'm sure they got it by now. Those Holdens are really cool cars, but creating the new GTO by rebadging an exsisting model was cheap. 👎 I'd be really surprised if they screw up the Firebird/Trans Am(when they do decide to make them again). New Firebird should be the type of the car, that would remind us of the car's heritage. It should be amazing.
