And it's not going to race? What kind of tribute to the 935 is that?
The money making kind.

Let's face it, Porsche is riding on their own history to make easy money today, which isn't a bad thing, really (lots of companies do this!), but this won't be the last super-limited edition "tribute" car from the brand that will be stuck in a collection somewhere not being used. That's just the nature of it, I suppose.

Oh boy that is gorgeous. I wish they raced it, but is there really any series they could enter with it? They'd need to make a homologation special for that, which I'd absolutely love but I don't know if that's a very viable option.

I'm expecting to see a lot more of this (Ferrari has it's 'legend' pillar, for example) until the next major economic implosion....which if you refer to history, shouldn't be too long from now....

Here we go again. I'm swimming against the tide once again. I can't help it but I really don't like this car.

When I read the thread title my first thought was; yippee, a cheaper 911. :P

With no road legal homologation it's options in motorsport would be limited to some of the less high profile options I guess. Plus.. y'know, collectors, investors and speculators might not want to get them dirty.
Isn't there supposed to be a GT2 championship starting soon for these sorts of cars?

I'm not a fan, but then again I'm not really a fan of any car like this. If I had the cash I'd rather buy a GT2 RS and a 991 GT3 R, both of which can be had for about the same as this.

Not sure why, but the wheel covers make the wheels themselves look smaller than normal.

In my opinion those classics should remain what they are. A 300 SL a CLK GTR (just a few examples of Mercedes cause iam a Mercedes fan) should always remain what they are. They shouldnt make a modern 300 Sl version 2.0 or something.

What is very nice is when a manufacturer uses the old design in his new car. Like the SLS AMG used the Gullwing doors of the 300sl.

I personally dont have a opinion on this 935 but what i know is that the old one was a legend and there shouldnt be any other 935 at Porsches which "steals" its honor.

When I first saw the headline photo I thought it was captured directly from GT Sport.

Cool idea, hopefully it gets into a game.

Now if Porsche could do the same with the 962, and 911 gt1, and make them road legal, that would be awesome!

All I know is, I might just have to get the 1:43rd model of this and I mostly stopped collecting scales other than HW/Tomica size.

What is wrong with you all? This is a hideous car, Porsche or not.

Mind the smileys to avoid misunderstandings >>>>> :embarrassed:  :P :D

Actually, thought a tad bit about something, and thought it could be an interesting enough point of discussion.

We all know that this new 935 is based on the 911 GT2 RS, yeah?
The 911 that's claimed to be the most powerful 911, atleast according to certain sources, including Porsche themselves:
https://newsroom.porsche.com/en/products/porsche-911-gt2-rs-world-premiere-festival-of-speed-2017-goodwood-13892.html
Porsche unveils the most powerful 911 of all time
https://www.porsche.com/international/models/911/911-gt2-rs/911-gt2-rs/
The new 911 GT2 RS is the most powerful 911 ever built by Porsche - with the performance level of a super sports car.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porsche_911_GT2
The 991 GT2 RS is powered by a 3.8 L twin-turbocharged flat-6 engine that produces a maximum power of 700 PS (515 kW; 690 hp) at 7,000 rpm and 750 N⋅m (550 lb⋅ft) of torque, making it the most powerful 911 ever built.
And at one point, I just so happened to remember what seems, to me, to be the simple fact of the matter.
It's not.

And since they happen to mention it in the original Porsche reveal article:
https://newsroom.porsche.com/en/products/porsche-935-world-premiere-exclusive-new-edition-clubsport-race-car-motorsport-rennsport-reunion-vi-anniversary-70-years-sports-cars-16163.html
The 515 kW (700 hp) racer featuring a body reminiscent of the legendary Porsche 935/78 will be produced in a limited number of 77 units.

It's quite a shame they didn't even bother to bring this 935 up to what they managed to get out of the 935/78 back during its days
https://www.ultimatecarpage.com/car/425/Porsche-935-78--Moby-Dick-.html
Running at a reliable turbo-pressure of 1.5 bar the engine officially produced 750 bhp at 8200 rpm. For qualifying the boost could be upped to 1.7 bar, which was enough to force 845 bhp out of the six cylinder engine.
And despite not being called as such, by the rules of Group 5, it had to be based off of the 930. Ergo, the 935/78 counts as a 911.
All the while, comparing specifications of the 991 GT2 RS, the new 935 and the 935/78, the GT2 seems to be worse off altogether: more weight, less horsepower, less top speed, less acceleration, granted, the jury for 0-60 and top speed is still out for the new 935 considering it's lighter, there's a potential source here but I consider it a bit suspect due to a bigger 0-60 time yet less speed, less torque. Arguably the GT2 RS has an advantage in the gearbox, very arguably, but that'd be it.
Unfortunate how the 935/78 seems to have never ran on the Nurburgring, would have been interesting to compare the time there.

Though, atleast this can rival the 2017 CTR, and it won't stop me from having the picture of new 935 and the old not-78 935 on Laguna Seca as my PC wallpaper.

https://sportscar365.com/sro/british-gt/british-gt-reveals-2019-schedule-gt2-included/

I was just reading some article on the relaunch of the GT2 category in the SRO and British GT next year. Porsche and Lamborghini had both expressed interest in this series. Here's a brief summary of the potential GT2 specs:

"GT2s will achieve their performance through straightline speed courtesy of higher power levels — up to 700bhp"
"The pros will definitely be quicker in GT3 than in GT2s, which are going to be heavier cars with less downforce,"

Sounds a lot like the 935 to me. I wonder if this car will be eligible to race next year. That would be amazing.

(On a side note, GT2 is relaunching. Why is nobody around here talking about this? The motorsports subforum especially.)

Maybe post this in GT Racing thread you mentioned.

Am I the only one to think of our way to showcase liveries in the Livery Editor section ?

I really like how Porsche use the retro and nostalgic paint jobs in the modern cars (IMSA and Le Mans liveries, and now these)
