Porsche Le Mans return vid.

Looks like we'll be seeing Porsche return to Le Mans to replace Audi as VAG's Le Mans challenger. Could see Audi head off to F1 with the I4 Turbo mill as has been rumored....

I'm betting on a coupe with a hybrid powerplant like that found in the GT3R Hybrid and 918.

Same story as 1998 then, when Porsche left and made place for Audi to enter.

Looks like both manufacturers are switching between Le Mans facerolls :lol:

Can't wait to see the prototype!

This is great news! I don't think Porsche is going to build a Diesel LMP1 so we may FINALLY have a decent PETROL to fight the DIESELS 👍
 
Discussions I've heard are that diesel will be pointless around that time because of the continual downsizing of the diesel engines by the ACO. Peugeot are apparently going to go to petrol in a year or two so it makes sense to throw petrol based Porsche hybrids at Peugeot instead of diesel focused Audi.
 
I think it's a little premature to write off Audi before Porsche even debut their prototype considering that Audi have won ten of the past twelve races at Le Mans. Porsche had the same statistics twenty years ago, but the sport was very different then.
 
I don't think you've heard the company line at VAG, something to the effect of "we won't race VAG brands against each other"...

I don't think nobody's writing off Audi, what some say is that they won't battle each other (which is a shame IMO) because they both belong to the VAG group.

Audi deserves nothing but respect for all they have achieved.

I can't wait to see the car design. I hope they'll able to take on the big two, Pug and Audi.

And i think you guys already know this but i'll just put it here.

I hope both of it will not be a failure like the new Aston LMP1. :guilty:

Well. Audi already said the are not going to F1. thats why F1 dropped the V4 engines for 1.6litre V6

Apart from FIA GT3 where the R8 LMS, Gallardo LP600 and 997 GT3R all compete against each other.

Not true........there is an article out where Porsche motorsport director said there is no issue racing Audi if they need to.

GT3 isn't Le Mans...The Gallardo is a third party deal too (Reiter) whilst Audi was late to the party with the R8 LMS. Porsche makes their living off GT3 cars so its no problem for them to compete against each other.

Where? Le Mans is bigger than most other races and is a damn good marketing tool. I can bet with confidence we wont see Audi vs Porsche at Le Mans...

Well I hate to say I told you so.. ;)

Dr Ullrich at this years Le Mans mentioned something about no issues with Audi staying when Porsche turn up. I think they will be coming with a Petrol-Hybrid, not too unlike the 918 and the 911 Supercup mule they have been running for the last year fews. They were never going to let Audi simply walk past their record wins. So we go Audi, Peugeot, Porsche, Mazda, Toyota...who else wants to join the party?? Honda maybe?
 
So you don't count AMR then?

It's not going to be, but it would be all kinds of awesome if the new Porsche LMP1 is a twin-turbo flat six.

I like to compare this car to Area 51. They claim it doesn't exist, but clearly it exists.
 
I seriously hope Audi doesn't go away from P1. Complete and utter dominance. What's the tally now? 11 wins in 13 races w/1 being the Bentley Speed 8 which was an Audi chassis and Audi race team but 'Bentley's motor, where Bentley is owned by VAG?

I fully welcome Porsche back to LMP1 though.

Matthias Mueller (Porsche CEO): "We would not necessarily have to line up against Audi, but we would do it if we need to and it would mean there are two of the [VW] group's brands fighting in the races. The likelihood that the group wins would therefore obviously be increased."

He urged all the VW brands to get together to "agree on a motorsport strategy for the coming years".

Hmm, Audi's 'complete and utter dominance' in the face of little serious competition is what is wrong with the Le Mans 24 hour race.. (unless of course you are an Audi fan), complete and utter dominance of any team in any sport is a bad thing IMO.
