At this point, I've pretty much ruled them out though I'd love to be proven wrong by PD.

But, IGN says Porsche signed an exclusive agreement with someone else. This alone doesn't mean 100% out, but when GT's rival (Turn10) has told us that even they can't promote Porsche because of the agreement, I think it's pretty much a given we won't see 'em.

I see this whole Porsche ordeal from two distinct perspectives.

Perspective one: Porsche is in. Porsche has been the most asked about manufacturer after it was known that Ferrari had been added to Gran Turismo. Not even Lamborghini had been mentioned so often and with such anticipation in the interviews as Porsche was. So, for Kaz, I think it'd make more sense to reveal such big news on his own terms, and not just to one reporter. Just as he was asked to share the car count for GT5 (which he didn't comment on), it seems he also deflected the Porsche question by saying "No, they won't appear". Not replying to this question would seem fishy so denying this question made the most sense for him.

Perspective two: Porsche is out. Kaz said it in the interview, so he might as well mean it! The whole exclusivity talk might very well be true and PD cannot include them yet. We also haven't seen any hint of Porsche in GT Mobile even though we've seen Bugatti and Lamborghini. Porsche had talked with PD and didn't mind their cars being damaged, but I imagine the check was not large enough or perhaps they had signed a contract with Turn10 after these meetings with PD.

The way I see it, until Nissan admit thay they've been cheating all along at Nordschleife, it will only make it much harder for PD to have Porsche in the game. Of course there are ways around the licensing by featuring Porsche race cars from a specific race team and livery, eg. Manthey Racing or Hankook Racing (996 + 997 GT3), Taisan Porsche from Japan's Super GT series or Flyng Lizard from ALMS. Of course the license would probably limit the cars to specific races/tracks- eg. Nordschleife for Manthey Racing, Suzuka (and the other tracks in the Super GT series) for Taisan Porsche and ALMS tracks (Laguna Seca + Infineon etc.) and La Sarthe for a team like Flying Lizard- since the licensing is through the teams.

I much rather have that which will at least guarantee that I'm able to get a realistic grid at Le Mans GT2 class where the 911 GT3 RSR took the top three spots (with Team IMSA Performance in position 1 and 3 and Team Endurance Asia in 2nd. And I don't mind not being able to use it (Porsche) on GT tracks like Midfield or HSR. For that the RUFs would do the job quite nicely.

The thing is though, that Nissan was not cheating. They were using optional rubber (Dunlop) instead of the standard rubber (Bridgestone). When Porsh grabbed the GTR to test it they had the Bridgestone rubber on and couldn't get within 20 or 30 seconds of the claimed time.

Subsequently independent tests between the GT2 and the GTR have shown with the same driver on the same day the GT2 is significantly quicker than the GTR around the ring (this was backed up with track telemetry as well). As far as I'm away each of these independent tests has only had standard rubber on the GTR.

I guess it was possible that KY lied, saying there wouldn't be Porsche in GT5. He could've saved it until later, then when he reveals it, he becomes big hero, 72 virgins... Or just big hero. Everyone will love him for coming to the rescue and bringing Porsche into the game, even though the other companies had contracts with them etc. etc.

Or he could very well be telling the truth and we won't see it at all. Just my speculation. :)

Except that he can't promote Gran Turismo with Porsche which means he can't reveal them unless he throws them in the background.

EA is the only company who can promote & fully show off Porsche. If they won't let their rival, Turn10 do it, they sure as hell won't let GT either.

I just want to beat a 911 Turbo with Godzilla. Mwah hah hah...

"Electronic Arts (EA) is continuing its successful partnership with Porsche."

That's discouraging language for us Gran Turismo fans, but this link refers to ProStreet. ProStreet was released nearly two years ago.

Yes, I am aware that Undercover and Shift have Porsche cars.

So let me see if I have this correct: With EA only allowed to show Porsche in any gameplay or commercial footage, that means Forza can't show/promote them and possibly, that means PD do have Porsche but can't show them. So it looks like the only way we'll know is when someone posts gameplay footage from TGS. I must summon alba and see if he can deliver the goods yet again.

You mind telling me where I can find them?? :trouble::sly:

That is correct. I believe Che on the FM forums said that the whole deal with Porsche is very complicated. They can't advertise or promote the game with any Porsches. They are only allowed to have them in the game and I believe at a price. There is a chance PD is willing to pay whatever that price is and obviously visa-versa . It is also possible that KY wants to advertise with Porsche really badly but EA's contract is holding things up. We may not even know until the games release or at the earliest some journalist's hands on.

We know Porsche will be in FM3, so I would guess that Kaz would let the world know ahead of time (*cough*TGS*cough*) if they're in GT5 as well. Of course, like T10, he wouldn't be able to show them in videos or screenshots and the like.

^^ Yeah, we know, but AFAIK the only "announcements" are done on the FM forums, and aren't any press releases and such. I know it's just looking for loopholes and explanations, but since PD does not have any spokepersons like T10's Che and they pretty much announce everything through the official channels, maybe that's why there is a slim possibility of GT5 having Porsches.

Well, at least I can tell it to myself till the release ;).

Porsche Time Line

-2007 SEMA auto show; Porsche is not in yet. Ferrari is in and Lamborghini is a "maybe".

-May 2008; Porsche hasn't been contacted yet, but Kaz believes they'll have Porsche in Gran Turismo 5 Speaking with the Official PlayStation Magazine, Yamauchi commented, “We’ll have most - no, all of the major manufacturers.”
When pushed to further clarify on the possibility of the Porsche brand appearing in Gran Turismo 5, he simply stated, “probably.”

-October 2008; Kaz has spoken with Porsche and damage is O.K. with them. Negotiations could occur because contracts with other parties had ended. Porsche (that’s right… Porsche) have stated that they do not have a problem with their cars being damaged in the game. From Ahmed: Kaz's response to Lamborghini and Porsche: "the thing is we are working on it , because like the porsche have some contracts with other games manufacturer, and those contracts has just ended so its possible for us now to negotiate."

-August 2009 (GamesCom); Porsche will likely not appear in Gran Turismo 5, signing an exclusive deal elsewhere.

-September 2009 (TGS)??

Just saw the Nurburgring 24 hours (late train - finally bought it) on GTTV... man, i can only imagine how awesome it would be driving at night with rain at north loop.

As mentioned before, the Gran Turismo Logo was all over the place. It was on every Porsche in the top 10 (Actually, majority of the field did). It's disappointing if we won't have Porsches by launch, but im sure they'll come as DLC. Also, nice to see Yamauchi present one of the thropies :D

Well, something probably has gone wrong this year for the negotiations turning tides like that.
That's too bad... my favourite car maker.

Like i said before if the Porsches are there in the game but Porsche changed their mind, KY could have made a one off contract for the MD to sign so they could now use the name etc as a last minute agreement.

I really don't understand this.

And also the rest.

Porsche can't change their mind; they too are bind to the contract they signed with EA that states only EA can promote their cars. To let another company use your name to promote themselves after signing a contract not only upsets the original company, but possibly makes you subject to lawsuit.

This might be a stretch, but what if the Major Advancement includes the addition of Porsche?

I seriously hope its a part of the serious advancement, because we have more important things to worry about other than addition of Porsche *cough*crashphysics*cough*damage*cough*
