Newest addition to the collection. A 1986 Pontiac Firebird Trans am, got it the past weekend. But since there are none in my area that are the right year and price. V8, t-tops. It has been repainted by previous owner but its really well done. only problems were hood pistons dont hold well, rear tires were badly cracked and exhaust leaks.

👍 nice T/A man, reminds me of mine, looks like you got lucky with the rear spoiler too.

That's depressing. So much plastic you can't even see the engine.

The first "mod" I did to my car was to remove the plastic engine cover.

Does anyone know if it is possible (and how if it is) for me to personally restore my '76 Beetle Rostyle rims and take them from this:

...to this?

Is it possible? I have searched everywhere and cannot find someone who has done it ..especially on the Tube of You.

@JohnyPiston If I'm not mistaken, the wheels you want are chrome, but the wheels you have are not. I'm not sure if there's some chrome paint stuff you can buy to put on them, maybe you could look into something like that. But from what I can tell, you'll be spending an awful lot of time polishing those rims to try and make them shine like that.

Thanks Katiegan. I have just had confirmation of what you said. It is Chrome plating and I might as well just get a set of new vintage wheels. It is somewhat disappointing but thanks for the prompt response.

There's a product in NZ called Silvero which is a metal polish. I don't know if you can get it in the States but try something like that, it'll bring the chrome back to life.

AeroStang parked for the winter, the new (to me) winter beater.
That's a fantastic winter beater. For several reasons. Mainly because it's an Insight and I love the Insight, but also because a) It's aluminium so no rust worries, and b) because it has narrow tires and it's light weight, both of which are ideal when it snows.

Great diversity in that garage too - not much more of a contrast between a 'Stang and an Insight.

So I am doing a plain restore on the original set which will cost about the equivalent of $50 each. But I have now also ordered and paid for the babies below ...they should be here in 3 - 4 weeks (coming from out of the country unfortunately). They may not be completely better than the Chromed/Polished Rostyle originals but being vintage SSP GT5s, I cannot wait! I will post pictures then but in the meantime I will sit back and enjoy the eye candy on this forum. Keep them coming guys!

Just to make sure the wheels are steel and not aluminum correct? Steel you cannot polish out to look like chrome (well technically you can with the ultimate set of polishing tools, but to buy those you might as well pay someone to chrome them). Aluminum you can polish out, which I do regularly. PM me if you want tips like what type of polish to use, metal porosity and shine, etc.

Chrome paint does not work, trust me. The best chrome paint usually ends up looking like silver metallic enamel paint.

Indeed. Chrome paint is as pointless and related to chrome plated/polished finishes as pink Escalades are to old school 'pink Cadillacs'.

Polishing aluminum is time consuming but rewarding. Un-coated aluminium needs more maintainence than chrome plated though, but a good wheel wax helps a lot for the polished aluminium to stay mirror finished.. :)
