License tests are a really good way to familiarize yourself with a corner or a section. A practice mode would be like a license test, but for every corner/section in the game.

It would be cool if you could choose one section in a track to practice, and it restarts as you get to the end of the section, so you keep doing it till you perfect it. For those that play an instrument, this is very similar. If you're having trouble with one section of a piano piece, you just play that section by itself over and over again until you can get it up to the same tempo as the rest of the piece. So... what do you think?

I think practicing in time trial should suffice. No need for another stand-alone mode. I like the idea though.

Yup, if you could pick a section in time trial mode, and the game treats that section as its own track, then that would be perfect.

Practice mode would be cool with me, rewind would be cool with me, and time trials are also cool with me.

Whatever we get and whatever we don't get for practicing our driving in GT5 will be cool with me.

Cool idea, sounds like it would prove extremely useful on tracks like the Nurburgring where you don't have to travel a large amount of the circuit to practice one single corner.

It would be useful, but only in time trial mode.
I want no connection with a rewind feature,
only the pure possibility to practice some corners, time and time again, and then moving to the next corner, and after all that, do the full track.

This is begging for someone to suggest rewind...

Definately agree with Deveander, and it will recieve the same feedback as elsewere.

I dont expect a practice mode in GT5, and in my personal opinion it doesnt really need it. Learning a corner this way isnt really going to help you in the long run, there has to be at least 100 different ways you could approach a corner, especially if racing. Racing a few laps and the odd time trial should be enough to learn the track. If really stuck just watch replays.

If you got a track down pat, but just keep messing up one corner this would be very useful. Rewind is not so good, it just seems like a really arcadey feature and wouldnt fit in GT.

This seems like a really good alternative to the rewind feature.

Ummm, ever thought of just racing around the same track time and time again in time trial mode?

@ cicohipe, if you keep messing up one corner, you do no have the track "down pat" as you put it.

That is a possibility, a very time consuming possibility. I think this idea is an excellent idea, a welcome substite to the rewind feature that so many people in favour of claim it to be for practicing only.

Nobody is perfect. You can know a track inside out and still makes mistakes.

I believe a practice mode would be brilliant( BUT NOT during races)

That's basically what I've been doing for, oh, I don't know, the past 3 GTs. For for extra long tracks like the nurburgring, it's too time consuming, especially if you're not in a racecar.

Isn't the actual driving/racing the reason we play? You don't like taking the time to drive, looks like your playing the wrong type of game...

For extra long tracks, you need extra long practice sessions. If you can't hack it then give up i suppose. Your just not fit to race at the highest level, it can be your secret shame.

There was another section in the OP that I deleted which said "Rewind is useless since it just focuses on one corner when you should be focusing on a series of corners designed to be taken together". So get back to your rewind thread.

Yup, this wouldn't be so needed for a track like Tsukuba or Tokyo, but for the longer tracks like La Sarthe and Nurburgring, it'll be pretty useful.

Definitely not, we've seen what happens when you let people mess around with time during races, rampant cheatage.

Ummm, I started with a RX-7 Le Mans race car around the nurburgring at 7'30, now I've gotten the time down to 6'45, this time would be 6'40 if I didn't have to spend 4 minutes driving to a place that I needed to practice.

So, umm, if you're going to troll, at least do it in a reasonably intelligent manner.

Isn't the actual driving/racing the reason we play? You don't like taking the time to drive, looks like your playing the wrong type of game...
So what do you say to all the race car drivers that practice one section of the track repeatedly rather than the whole?? They're in the wrong sport?

You do realize you can rewind multiple corners... heck half the track if you want to right?

I don't see how a premade set of test corners could ever equal the flexibility and accessibility of rewinding :D

I'd rather restart from the start of a series of corners than rewind, that just takes me right out of the experience. It is flexible and accessible, if you're a child, in which case you'll rewind 5 trillion times per lap at least and throw down the controller in frustration because it's not fun in the same way that a shooting game becomes unfun after a while if you enable god mode.

Well you would certainly still be able to restart just as you like. But your assumption about who it applies to and how it would be used, I think is in many ways flawed, exagerated and narrow.

Please, umm, don't call me a troll or insult my intelligence, umm, did i directly offend you?

You can do a lap 6'45. Accept that. If and when your actually use your 'intelligence' enough to do a 6'40 in one go then you can say hey, "i can do a lap in 6'40."

Also remind me why you can't just turn the car around and drive backwards to the point you wish to start from, you know, like in real life.

Playing sections at a time...fine, have at it. Rewind feature...would not buy GT5 if it had it.

Well, my evidence is based on those 2 polls you have where over 80% of people flat out refuse your feature of choice. So... who's being narrow (minded)?

If you notice, you're the only person left in that thread that's still arguing about that feature when NO one save for a small group of 5 other people on this entire site wants it.

What makes being able to rewind like you're in a 1995 VHS movie more realistic than restarting a section like in real life?? Rewind is so tacky that just thinking about it makes me uneasy.

lol, wow, I really struck a nerve didn't I?

Oh yeah, also remember, if Rewind isn't in GT5, you owe me that play seat. Remember that bet we made? There's no way you're going to get out of this.

Not at all, but if your going to back up your points with insults then your just undermining your arguments. On this forum many avoid insulting each other for the sake of politeness, common sense and good discussion. If you cant stick to this then you obviously have less intelligence than you imagine.

I don't really want to derail the thread because you take my jab at your intelligence to heart.

Anyways, why would you want to drive back to the start of where you want to go? That's just an necessary waste of time. Oh wait, I forgot, it's part of "REAL DRIVING!" In that case, why don't you bring a giant rusty spike that you stab yourself with every time you crash? You're taking this too seriously. It's still a game that's designed to be fun. Should the real driving simulator have rewind? No, that's TOO unrealistic, should you be able to practice in sections? Yeah, it's just like in real life without all the hassle.

Do you drive to a race track that you're racing on? No, is that unrealistic? No. YOu should start putting more thought into your posts before you just randomly jab at keys on your computer and press send.

I didn't say you are in a small group, I said your example is narrow. And it is as it assumes the one reason and the one assumption you make abuot who and how it will be used is universal.

And remember I have forever on that playseat. If rewind IS in, I get a playseat from you, if rewind isn't in, I have forever and that includes some point 3000 years in the future they recreate Kaz from DNA and run GT5 in an emulator and he puts rewind in... like I explained to you in that bet... I love forever bets, becuase the only way I loose is the universe ends in which case, sure I wil buy you a play seat! :D

No you don't, stop trying to get out of it, I will make a thread and let the people here judge what that sentence means if I have to. We can have a poll, everyone will agree with me, and you'll continue arguing that I meant forever even though, but you'll still owe me a play seat no matter how many posts you make. :) Get a brain, no bet takes forever, so stop scurrying around like a rat and start saving up your allowances! bahaha

Yay, playseat woot! (I hope they ship to Canada at a low cost, I'd hate to make you spend money on me.)

I don't think my example is narrow. As 5 people on an entire forum is hardly a wide demographic.

Your way out if you think i took your 'jab' to heart.

The only reason i stated driving back to the point that you need practice, is to save you those valuable minutes of driving back around the track to the corners your not so good at. Its nobody elses problem you find it too difficult.

And once again with the petty insults. Seriously, at least tell me your 12 or something, then at least i can justify in my head what kind of maturity im dealing with.
