If I remember correctly PD's use of Premium car assets in GT5 are scaled down from a higher model in the database so they don't need to re-work much for next-gen.

Now, did I actually read that or is it made up?

well, did you read it? Or is it made up? critical error: binary loop in this thread

I think I remember hearing that the car models for GT5 were "up to PS4 standards" or something along those lines.
So I think yes...you probably read something like that.

Wouldn't be surprised if it was. PD did one hell of a job creating the premiums (graphics-wise). GT5 already uses most/all of the PS3's resources, so downscaling the premiums was probably necessary. This explains why the shadows are blocky; the PS3 can't handle it.

When GT6 does come out on the PS4, I'm pretty sure PD will just upscale the GT5 premiums a bit.

On a side note, I'm expecting 1000+ premium cars for GT6 :D

you are setting yourself up for a major disappointment

GT needs to understand the #'s game isn't important...we're happy with 400-500 premiums...not 10 premium GT-R's

The in-game models are already less detailed than the photo-travel models. As far as I know, the photo-travel models are supposed to be the PS4 level they talk about.

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised either, but here's the rub...

...those photo travel models don't look at all different to the in-game models as far as I can see. Maybe that's an indication, to me, that PD did such a good job.

Here's some news that GTPlanet reported on, about the premium cars.

Thanks for that. Bit confusing though. Does he actually mean PD have higher data models in storage? To me that says our current GT5 models will be used in the next game i.e. there is no higher data model.

Or do we have in-game model < photo travel model < PD data model?

I'm not seeing "superb" premium modeling at all. TBH the models look no better then Forza Motorsport 3's cars, which has more premiums.
And I'm sure Forza 4 will have more polygons per car thanks to Autovista.

I'm aware of this, but Kaz said he wanted to make all of the cars premium, which he couldn't do due to time restrictions. It would be great if they turned those 800 or so standard cars to premiums like PD originally wanted to do, for GT6 (I was referring to this in my previous post, if you misunderstood me). I just think the whole premium/standard car thing is pretty ridiculous and shouldn't be carried over to GT6.

And yes, I think it would be better if they weren't so focused on selling the GT series with numbers. GT5 is missing a lot of "worthy" cars from the game.

Boy, was I disappointed when I found out the lotus exige wasn't in the game and that I couldn't even fit a supercharger on the elise :grumpy:.

Forza 3 has great graphics no doubt, but definitely not on par with GT5. It's not too far behind GT5, but I think GT5 looks more organic (if that's the right word).
