Well after hearing Yamauchi on press conference before the release of date of the game he mentioned "Being stamped, as we speak" now it sounded to me that his doing this for Business not for passion!

When I still worked in games, this arguement would come up frequently: are games art / a passion / entertainment or are they a business. Weirdly, I used to got foe the "it's art" type option, right up until the point I bacame a Producer (project manager), at which point I became mostly concerned with milestones, deliverables and deadlines. At which point it became purely business...

I think combining the "arts" and the "business" part is one of the most important and one of the hardest things not only with computer games... (also in Motorbike and Sportscars - wherever passion meets business :sly: )

Truth hurts though, granted. :(
It may not be the nicest thing to say about GT5, but sadly it is so true...:indiff: :(

Sad, but true.

The only thing we can hope for is that this huge flaw will be fixed in DLC, game updates, or further down the line- in GT6.

I'm not holding my breath though, as I don't think Kaz is even aware of the problem. Actually, he probably is the problem. Someone needs to sit him down and tell him why GT1 through GT4 are so good, in the aspect of gameplay, and why GT5 is so bad. Kaz needs to be shown that, but I don't think he cares anymore.

All this trailers are only promotions whoever got this idea to lure hunderdths of thousands of innocent players all over the world making this a best selling exclusive playstation game because of him!. screw you! your so plastic! CHE!

Another thing that I thought there would be the Sema winning Factory Five GTM...which is conspiciously absent. This is my first rant: and let me say that when I bought GT5 I was buzzing with excitement - I bought my ps3 just for the game - and playing the game was really unsatisfying. Stressful to use, and really not perfect.

I don't think that GT5 is a con though: it's clear that a lot of work was put into the game. What staggers me is that there are so many things here and there - small things - that just mar the game and make it fail to be a game that you can just relax and play, like GT4. Actually, GT4 was like that too a bit, in that you couldn't help thinking: they could have done this better, they could have done that better. What makes it truly galling - regarding GT5 - is that you can't help thinking: Yes, they could have done that!

What I'm saying is a bit off topic, but others have ranted, so I shall continue. One thing that really pervaded the game was the inconsistency everywhere in the game. Terrible engine sounds (Nissan mmr cup car) are accompanied by wonderful ones (BMW E46); stunning multimillion polygon beasts roam with models of which there is only wonder at how they made it onto a PS3. I have the feeling that PD set themselves a bar of perfection that they realized they could never attain in time, and panicked and just rushed the game. I have this question for you at PD and Sony: if you saw fit to include what are essentially PS2 imports, why did you not see fit to include all the maps? We'd have noticed that the standard cars (not all, mind!) were not perfect and would have had no illusions of perfection. Do you think that we'd have judged you because your tracks were less than perfect? I have this to say: I - and probably most others - buy this game to drive, not look at the surface of the road, micrometre by micrometre. One of the cars I've had the most fun in was the standard Honda Civic Motul Race Car. Once I got going with it, I couldn't have cared less about how it was rendered. But of your desire for perfection, I still have to express my admiration.

Now I'll turn to those who sanctimoniously decry us for daring to complain like spoiled children. Let me ask them: why should we shut up? Why should we fail to inform PD and Sony of the many and glaring failures that tarnish this game? Why should we not express our disappointments with a work that we have longingly waited for so long to come out? Is it unnatural to be disappointed given all that has come before? Is it wrong to demand excellence when we know that it could be easily realized?

I'm well aware that PD and Sony are under no formal obligation to provide an excellent game for us. And that it might not make such sense to speak of any 'duties' to us gamers. I'd like to say that regarding GT5, I see myself as a gamer first and a consumer as a definite second. As a gamer, I want enjoyment, and when I'm thus rewarded, I feel joy. I then feel an attitude of gratitude and respect towards the developers - Kaz included. There is no obligation here. But as a consumer, if I feel that I have paid for something that is ultimately substandard and unsatisfying, I will vote with my wallet thus, and inform those I know of the product's failing. I hope that I don't cross from 'gamer-consciousness' to 'consumer-consciousness'...

After just reaching LV30, I watched the X1 intro video. In that video, the track we thought was the Top Gear Test Track at dawn turns out to be a completely different track all together. In fact, it looks like the Red Bull Hanger runway.

... Considering how weak the higher levels of the game are I believe it was just poor planning on Kaz's part. I don't think he thought that people would be blowing through the game playing hours and days on end or "grinding" instead of trying to just level up with new events. He expected people to leisurely saunter through the game, buying and enjoying different cars and as everyone progressed DLC (free and paid) would be put out there to fill in the later parts of the game for the more experienced people.
[...]
Either way I just think he didn't expect this because he assumed the GT5 player was a long term one like GT4, but it seems attention spans have gotten shorter, and even with online play it just doesn't hold up to the current "beat it in a week" crowd.

If he had employed anyone with the slightest knowledge of behavioural psychology or game theory this would have been avoided.

I honestly think the level system was added to compensate for the fact that the AI element of the game is just not up to scratch.

They have shifted the emphasis of the game to collection of e-peen points (and really, really poorly implemented at that).

With an adequate, competetive, scalable AI and restrictions on race entry the challenge becomes driving and the reward is winning, the payout being cash allowing you to afford better cars & thus enter higher level races once you can afford a car (and tuning) to enter that race. These are all concepts that exist in real life and hoenstly weren't broken in any previous GT

Since GT 1 players have been begging for better AI but I don't recall anyone ever crying out for an arbitrary levelling system, making the game feel more like WOW than a racing game.

They have distracted a lot of players from the fact that achieving level x doesn't make you a better driver. It doesn't relate to skill at all, yet so many players are focusing on this.

They created an artificial goal, that doesn't take any skill to reach. It is human nature for a % of the population to reach that as fast as possible especially if they think that is some indicator of their 'specialness'

Look at all the posts where people are complaining that someone can drive a car that they "don't deserve to because they haven't reached level 30" because it was gifted traded or duped.

This is not the mindset promoted in previous GTs.

I'm rambling a bit - sorry. Carry on as you were....

Here's something I'd like to see.

Another company come in and make a game like GT.

Provide the level of detail that we all were hoping for. Would it outsell GT? Would it even kill GT?

I've started to feel like PD doesn't deliver because there's really no competition for them on the PS3.

How did Kaz get GT5 so wrong?
If he was pushed into meeting the Christmas deadline then so be it but if he was given more time to finish it, how much longer would he have needed?
Surely he wasn't planning to premium all the cars, surely he wasn't planning to replace all the courses? Or maybe that GQ award has gotten the better of him!
Personally I think the GT franchise is finished and will now go down the activison path of milking that sucker dry until it can be milked no more.
Hopefully Kaz has plans to finish GT5 through patches but there is no way sony will allow him to do that for free.
I think GT5's future depends on how many copies it sold.
Also if the forza franchise steps up to the mark, sony could find alot of GT fans sell their PS3 for a XBOX360 and for sony, that's the last thing they need at the moment.

I'd personally like to see some REAL investors put some financial backing into the guys who made the game 'Enthusia' back for PS2, and make a NEW Enthusia, based on the new [PS3] hardware.. THEN, I think there might... MIGHT be a contender for PD. Then maybe, perhaps they'd step their game [back] up again! Lol

:p

Then again, I've been heavilyyyyy addicted to the GT series now, for going on 13 years.. So no matter what, I will always stay true to my roots with GT :D

The Enthusia team was dissolved, and several key physics programmers were picked up by Polyphony. Now that they've got near unlimited financial backing a years and years to put out a game, I think it's a good chance for the people behind Enthusia to step their game up and go for gold.

👍 Good words, sir! :)

What about the Stig model shown in the E3 trailer?

I'd be damned if they just modeled his helmet for a lousy trailer...

Some say, was made for the trailer, and that he has more polygons than everything in the game combined. All we know is, he's called The Stig.

Well I don´t remember the exact timing of the events but it might have something to do with ben collins revealing he was the stig .
The stig we all know and love is gone and science top gear created the stig farm video I think that in the new series there will be a new stig (I mean the look of it ) so maybe the bbc didn´t wanted the old stig look to make more appearances.
