Polyphony definately has NO management structure at all, the place is like Rob Dyrdek's Fantasy Factory except we all know that Rob Dyrdek actually GETS WORK DONE. What Polyphony needs is for someone to come in from the outside, preferably with a motorsport background... F1 is preferable, and manage the studio, it's pretty clear that Kaz had the right vision but his management is lacking, the fact that idiotic graphical flaws like the Mines Skyline and the fact that all wheels on 99% of all cars in the game have a blank grey surface on the inside of the wheel.

They should also look at chopping the overall number of cars, they simply do not need so many cars in the game, do we really need bottom spec family cars that have no place in a racing game? They could also outsource modelling cars to teams across the globe, because lets be honest... some of the car lists of certain manufacturers are simply SHAMBOLIC, how can you have the 908 but no R15 or Aston Martin Lola? Thats just an example of how ridiculous the car lists are.

The cynic in me says if PD gave us all these things now in GT5 then how do you ever sell gt6? I think they have held things back to ensure gt5 can stand alone but what would they then have to create from scratch for a new gt?

I just can't believe that PD with their funding could only create 200 cars and 20 tracks in what 4 years? And if that's all they have done they should be ashamed really

Agree with you apart from that point.

GT5 suffers because of the reasons you stated. Sony should make Kaz a creative director or similar and bring in someone from outside with GAMING experience to project manage/lead PD to deliver a much better GT product.

I do not doubt PD's ability to get the vehicle stuff right (GT3 and GT4 showed what they can do), it is about prioritising the right things and the execution that they have screwed up on so badly.

You forgot the
1. Animated GT5 Prologue (before race) pit-stops were not in GT5...
2. Full-motion track videos are not in GT5...
3. Intro movie in GT5 was first time ever runs at 30 fps (not 60) - what a shame...
4. GT Citroen runs at London track@night on its trailer...
5. Wind tunnel in FT-86 trailer...

Also entire race with 16 premium cars in GT5P loads FASTER than GT-Auto menu in GT5...WTF?

That just what I remember.

1. I believe that was made for Prologue, and only Prologue as GT5's menus are much easier now.
2. I don't think they scrapped those, I just don't think they ever made them. (Other than for the tracks in prologue)
3. Once again, that wasn't exactly "scrapped".
4. Really? I hadn't joined gtplanet when this trailer was released, but I'm sure there was some discussion about it. Was it basically assumed then that it really was London at night?
5. The wind tunnel is in GT5.

Game trailers are BS. Anyone remember the Motorstorm/Killzone trailers form E3? Where everyone was all like "ZOMG this PS3 looks like it will be the awesome, as opposed to just another underpowered console whose dedicated architecture might have given it the edge on PC's for like a week or so, if it'd come out last year"

Heh. I remember the first ECTS (a now-defunct games-industry trade show) I worked at, we were demoing our latest PS1 game, which was actually running on a top-spec PC (it was a PII iirc), with half a dozen Voodoo2 3Dfx cards (remember them?) daisy-chained. Basically, we were just lying about what the game was like to generate some interest.

Oh yea you can run an entire 24 hour race on a huge track like nurburg without 'loading' half way through so why can't they make the main menu auto load gt auto and parts? These submenus are tiny if ps3 can handle a full track then what is so inefficient about the main menu screen that they can't all be loaded in one go when you start the game?

GT Menus are so far beyond a joke it's like it has to be on purpose. It's always been that way. I'm starting to think it's a feature. It's become tradition now. If I didn't have to click through 150 different menus to add a spoiler to my car I'm not sure how I'd feel about that.

If you didn't spend so many clicks and as much time fumbling into menu inefficiency the game would be over in a fraction of the time. That's why they added levels too to slow u down from winning all the races.

An interesting thread. What I'm also interested in are the promises made by PD in the few months before release that also are nowhere to be seen.

I'm positive that save points during endurance races was one of 'em.

Now okay, I'm off to find some proof.

Now that's interesting, since I've never come across a wind tunnel! Care to tell me how to find it?

And as for the truck in Tokyo, I think the footage was supposed to appear everytime you acquire a new car by accepting a coupon. Because of its length and repetitiveness, it might have been deemed boring.

Do you know what PD's management structure is actually like? Do you know how good a manager Kaz is? How? From playing his games?

And what the hell has motorsport got to do with producing games? You may as well say "they need the bloke who runs my local McDonalds running PD" for all the relevant knowledge they'd have.

This is the one indulgance that could do with someone reigning in a touch. The team are clearly big fans of Japoanese cars (being Japanese and all) and have put in all their favourites. But, with it being such a big team, there are a lot of favourites, so you get a lot of similar cars.

There are also licencing issues to consider - I worked on a racing game that only used one manufacturer, who I won't name, but they said "if you want to use the Mustang in your game, you have to use the Ka as well". But, realistically, that's Sony's concern, not PD's. They're the ones holding the purse-strings, afterall.

Man I'm not your enemy! :yuck:
Whole my point is that Prologue are somewhat superior to GT5.Who on earth were think that full game lose many of those GREAT stuff that adds to game's atmosphere and make it very unique experience?..

If there some things in trailers - it must be in game.Otherwise WHAT IS A TRAILER? It's a showcase to what they working on and what we will see in game/movie.Or they so stupid to make "GT5 trailers that is not GT5"? What a purpose in showing things that will be never in full game? It's pointless.

So we have a right to expect those things. And those that were in Prologue.

Sorry for English.

I'm fairly sure the tracks stream, don't they?

Precisely. All that matters is what he produces. Everything else is irrelevant. If the game comes across as slap dash and unfinished that's all on Kaz. All of it.

Almost as repetative and boring as a cars headlights turning on in the pitch dark and driving a foot and a half toward you.

At least they included an extra fifty or so button presses between winning the car and it arriving in your garage. That's progress, right?

I have a theory along this lines I think that the seasonal events are A spec events that couldn't be put into the final game as It is full up. The thing that gives this away is the pre race screen It says the original prize money which is more like 125000 rather than the 1 million you get, which would make it an extreme event that has been cut out.

I doubt that only because the seasonal events are more like challenges and operate completely differently than the other A-Spec races in the game. Also in regard to the prize money it specifically says that you get certain levels and everything below it depending on your finishing position. They were meant to be tough and give a lot of points.

I worked out last night that it takes 1 minute per car to move the car from the truck to you garage. One minute doesn't sound like a lot, but it really is in game terms. Especially if you have a dozen or so cars in there...

Similarly, I played a bit of the GT Rally mode and timed it as I went. 2/3 of the time spent "playing" that mode is taken up by loading screens.

Madness.

It's PD's trademark - user hostile menus. Ever gone too far to the right when trying to get in to change your transmission settings?

That's one of my favourite features of the menus.

I think it should pop up a message "whoops!, try again once I'm finished loading two more times." when you exit immediately after entering the race start screen.

The Top Gear Magasine special said that the angles in the replay in the game are identical to the ones in the real show (didn't happen) and they said the Damage was very impressive and realistic(didn't happen) also we have seen the Whole Top gear test track Straight used by the Maserati but we can't access it ingame. My guess it that all these stuff we will be seeing sometime in the future.

Yeah the trailers for GT6 :grumpy:

I believe it's a photomode location you unlock. (But I'm not sure how you unlock it)

I think you took my comment the wrong way. I wasn't trying to totally demean you, I just didn't consider all of what you mentioned to be "scrapped" or left behind.

In fact, I even added one of your notes to my main post.

Regarding your second paragraph, PD does model everything you see in a trailer of theirs. However, be it marketing purposes, disk space or what have you, the tend to through most of what we see in their trailers out the window.

Probably Sony/PD need some "secret weapons" to counter the upcoming Forza Motorsports 4, NFS Shift 2 and other racing games as they can't probably afford (in many ways) to release GT6 anytime soon.
That's what I meant by "keeping the game fresh" in a previous post.
Also I'm not so sure that GT5 got released just by public outcry in December (cite>CoolColJ). Most other major titles in the series also got released in the holiday period.

I seriously believe that the slow release of news, content and even hardware (the Thrustmaster T500RS shifter supposedly coming out at later date because they're still "fine-tuning it with PD"... come on!) is going on exactly as planned.

How about 'trading' I'm sorry but simply one off gifting a car is not trading is it? I've said this before but even Pokemon has better online trading than GT and Pokemon is very basic as is the use of ends online.

And to people who say they might add some of this stuff in later well its a bit late when I have already gotten to level 27 with only fgt to do before I complete extreme hall.

PD need to let me reset A spec mode, keep my money and cars but add mechanical damage in from the start I'm a big boy I can handle it ta. But with tougher AI and more prize monies. I think only something revolational like this can keep me a GT fanboy.

Can anyone like phone PD studio and see what they are playing at and do we have any Japanese players here who can relay to us what the Japanese gamers are saying? Maybe Kazakhstan will listen to them more than US?

JMO I think a lot of this is poor planning. We know there is gonna be DLC (heck even the worst games out today have DLC, and Kaz did mention DLC). Considering how weak the higher levels of the game are I believe it was just poor planning on Kaz's part. I don't think he thought that people would be blowing through the game playing hours and days on end or "grinding" instead of trying to just level up with new events. He expected people to leisurely saunter through the game, buying and enjoying different cars and as everyone progressed DLC (free and paid) would be put out there to fill in the later parts of the game for the more experienced people. Maybe he will tie the DLC to certain events or promotions who knows (like maybe Daytona 500 weekend a Bonus event Daytona 500 would appear).

Either way I just think he didn't expect this because he assumed the GT5 player was a long term one like GT4, but it seems attention spans have gotten shorter, and even with online play it just doesn't hold up to the current "beat it in a week" crowd.
