Is it really necessary to reply to every post made in the thread, Krog?

Anyway, it looks...at least a little mentionable, but if I had a hybrid, I would take a Honda CR-Z 99/100, with the 1 remaining number being if I was asked the question while dead.

Or...

Hey, that car has lawnchairs too! :D

Seconded. They're a reasonably rare site on UK roads so it's always good to see one, and everyone I know who has driven one really enjoys it.

Wait, the CR-Z? I have one of those, a 1999. I thought you meant CR-X, so I got excited.

He probably has a CR-V, and is just confused by the similar name.

Why? Firstly, the space is a bit of an illusion because the seats are much, much narrower than those on a regular production car. Chuck in a bench seat for the back and some regular chairs up front and you immediately remove several inches of space in every direction - that includes the door cards which don't really exist in that concept, or a full dashboard.

Secondly, as it's a concept car it almost certainly won't have the packaging constraints of a regular car either. Car companies can devote more space to areas that the public and press will see such as the interior, and less to the areas they won't, like the trunk and engine bay.

I'll let you find the rest.

Disinfected For The Win...Toyota is in it to be cookie cutter now days. Not to sell cool cars, they only sale to celebs that have a big ego and think they're saving the earth. When really they could just drive a new Diesel Audi or VW and do a lot of saving

It's actually uglier than the bog standard Prius.

How? How does one achieve such a thing?

Words cannot describe how amazing that is.

This one is incredibly ugly, but I think the original Prius looks good... (don't kill me :scared:)

And I hate how they're expanding the Prius model range. The original is enough. But I guess it's a profitable business.

Is that something really worthy of hate? As you say, it's all about business. Prius customers might want more seats if they have more kids, which is where the Prius V comes in. Or maybe they like the technology but want a smaller, cheaper car - bingo, this car, or the upcoming Yaris HSD.

I can't argue with what you said about the Prius α, but whether or not I hate this expansion going on, is a subjective matter. This is just my personal opinion.

I don't like how the Prius has become everything from a 7-seater to a supermini, instead of its original, iconic shape.

When you say the original shape I presume you mean the 2nd and 3rd gen Prius profile rather than the small sedan 1st gen.

That said, the shape is largely about aerodynamics rather than style (it's no coincidence the 2nd gen Honda Insight looks quite similar). If Toyota has found some way of making the larger and smaller ones aerodynamically efficient then it's still doing the job it's designed for.

Yes, the Platz-based 1st gen was rather forgettable.

I know, I know, I know.

I just, personally, dislike like how Toyota is making compromised versions of the Prius.
The Prius α makes a significant compromise on efficiency for space, and that doesn't excite me at all.
And adding to that, they're dropping the iconic design that the Prius brought to the hybrid car market. There's really nothing to like about it, in my opinion.
To me, it's not a true Prius, as the emphasis isn't on efficiency as much as it is on space.

Why do people keep pojnting out the fact that it is a concept to me? If you read the OP, you'll see that I acknowledged it.

Because you're showing seemingly limitless ability to be awed by it when the majority of the stuff you're praising it for won't make production. It's no use saying:

Krog
I'm baffled by all of the space inside.

...like that's something hugely special or unusual, when a production model will be very different.

Because none of the things that supposedly make it "cool" will actually be in the car if it ever goes into production, yet you keep pressing on them as if we are supposed to care despite that fact.

Well, hybrids are supposed to get excellent fuel economy while providing decent range and driveability of a normal gasoline car, aaaand small cars are pretty amusing to drive, making a smaller and ( supposedly ) more frugal version of a proven car a win-win.

That's massive.

Correcting myself: Small cars by non-american standards are pretty amusing to drive...

:p

Ok, I retract my statement, perhaps it was silly to put the word "Fun" in a post to comment on a Toyota.

Does that mean 50 million celebrities can't be wrong? Doubt there's that many in the world, but most people just think of their car as an appliance, so why not drive one? So they can get 50 miles per gallon on 87 octane fuel that isn't overpriced like diesel is? Or get this plug-in one that gives many more eMpg's for roughly 30k...And absurdly quiet at idle? Nobody's arguing that Prius owners are dyed-in-the wool automotive enthusiasts, but somehow if Mercedes, Porsche, and VW release a hybrid, it's smart thinking. Toyota releases another one, and damn it...death of the automobile, folks!

The lack of almost any original thoughts in this thread concerns me.

Toronado

You drive an old truck...get off our case already.

Not saying it's not smart thinking at all, just saying it's boring, also when you drive the proper car and as Clarkson would say drive it normally you can get alot more mpg out of it. The eco diesels are rated anywhere from 40 to 60 mpg. There is nothing wrong with Hybrids, but as several others have shown the lack of originality from Toyota is just plain boring. Also when you get that much MPG for diesel you're obviously not going to have to fill up that often hence the idea of eco cars. There is no death of the automobile and don't take my post of context, why would people be excited about the same car hashed out, even the camary shares similarties to all the other cars shown. If the Prius was a cheap car I'd get behind it, but with the Nissan Leaf and Chevy Volt already ahead of the game I'd rather get behind them.

Erm... I wouldn't really take that TG test seriously. All that proved is that a Prius is less economical if you thrash it than an M3 is if you drive it like you're on death's door.

In other words, if you drive the Prius like a Prius driver would never do, it's less economical than if you drive an M3 like an M3 driver would never do.

Also worth remembering that hybrids are both generally better on MPG around town than diesels (which aren't suited to inner-city driving), and less polluting everywhere.

I actually think the Prius is a really cool looking car, mostly from a functionality point of view. The thing is fantastic aerodynamically. My dream long-distance cruiser would probably be a Prius with all the hybrid bullcrap taken out and replaced by a normal-sized 4-cylinder and more fuel tanks. That thing would go for ages, get damn near the same mileage, but not be totally slow as ass.

I was quoting that...and with new diesels they're alot more clean burning due to all the emissions cutting they're given. I was quoting what Clarkson said in general. I'll ask again to please try and not take post out of context.
