With all of the recent news from all three games, I figured here would be a good place to discuss the three games as head to head competitors or individually.

Project CARS 2 E3 Trailer

My favorite aspect of most any Project CARS Trailer is knowing I can use all of the content included in almost any way I please. The F40 GT? I can do a one-make 24 hour race if I please against as many AI as I want. A Track I like? Time Trials or Races, you can customize to the finest of details the entirety of a Race Weekend. Online, Offline, AI or not, the options are there for highly competitive, realist racing and motorsport. I just want to race, man. And it seems like SMS gets that.

Forza 7 E3 Trailer

I found it a bit of a jolt the camera would focus so intently on the mons of the female avatar. Interesting marketing plan to force people to look for a dude's bulge.

Dynamic Weather gameplay

Graphically, F7 looks pretty good, as we expect. The racing physics look quite "gamey" (benefit of the doubt...could be the settings?). The "pass in the grass" is one of those SMH moments. I do find it interesting they'd focus on the weather since the first Project CARS did that in 2015 and with Project CARS 2 advancing that concept even further down the line. All in all, this bit of gameplay reminded me so much of the Gran Turismo series that it is uncanny. Especially given the car choice. Definitely seems like a shot across the bow of Kaz and PDI. Still blown away that T10 has taken GT's fundamental idea and made it their own in such a dominant way.

GT Sport E3

WOW! Game looks great!

We've had the conferences and Project CARS 2 wins that. Neither Forza nor GT announce something huge. And what we've seen of Forza is basically PC1 weather with Fog, Rain, Storm and Clouds. Not expecting that on all circuits with variable time of day.

GT have the graphics. PC2 gives access to all cars from the start. F7 will have the car count.

I can see PC2 and F7, neck & neck in graphics and playability. LiveTrack 3.0 is equal to Livery Editor. Players want those changeable conditions and to personalize their cars.

GT looks to run out of steam once online play is taken from the equation. Photo Mode is just trumped by above main features, in PC2 & F7. Having to acquire 1mil+ Cr. and required License to progress(the way PD has done in the past), appears off-putting in today's games.

That LiveTrack Vs Livery Editor is really personal preference. Yes, I'd like both but racing is really at the heart of it and that's where Project CARS 2 looks to be better.

Saw a Viper ACR in Forza 7 and it makes me sad P Cars shows no sign of Dodge vehicles :(

What a weapon the ACR would be in the highest road car class!

Yeah, the Live Track 3.0 vs Livery Editor....LOL. Not even in the same atmosphere. Live Track all day.

I would be ashamed to even admit it if I thought those were two similar features.

Another Trailer for GTS. This one is quite interesting.

If you dare venture over to the GTS forum you can read about them wanting to do grid walks in custom clothes and the possibility of having a "drone mode" for spectating and photos. How did it get to this where people don't even want to actually drive and race the cars anymore in a game?

This is my point, expressed below.

It's not about the same or similar feature. These are the features that seem to grasp the people that want to get each game.
Phot Mode is a major feature for many to get GT. Livery Editor is why many want Forza.
PCars rely on it's racing, yes. However, LiveTrack is going to be the single major feature in the game. It'll change the "racing" aspect in (console)racing games.

Now, the CarPG of people wanting to walk around and meet & greet, is something. Those GT lobbys of people lining their cars up for photos on the Nurburgring, doing driveby videos on that night circuit with the bridge with fireworks, those online meets are big.
Figure avatars switching cars with one another, to try set ups or shoot videos of someone else "driving" your car. Imagine if FH3 allowed that. it's something that can be done in GTA V. Why not in these big car game communities?

If GT didn't have those Scapes and photo mode, what else does it have? If PC2 doesn't have that offline competitve AI, it'll be like any other racing game. If F7 dropped that livery editor, there would be no pride in sharing creations.

Kinda worried that pCARS 2 will be buried by those giants, the release date for all of them are very close it seems but I still pCARS 2 will be a better motorsport simulator. Is weird to see GT500, GT3, GTE and GT4 seems to be BoP to race together and the Vision GT still looks odd to race with actual race cars like in their LMP1 class.

Project CARS 2 will be the best sim, and possibly the 'best' overall game, but never underestimate Joe Public's ability to make bad purchasing decisions based on reputation and marketing clout. I fear pCARS 2 might drown in a sea of fud, but I really, really hope it hold its own. All three games should be sufficiently different to coexist quite happily.

To my understanding from what I read in the PC2 Q&A(Whew! That was a lot of catching up), PC2 is certainly the more grown up racer of the trio.

Imagine what the 7th game will be like.

That's a fair point. Each game kind of has its own "thing" that draws mainstream people in.

I am looking forward to seeing what else is revealed. I know Project CARS 2 has another feature or two that has not been shown yet.

Forza has its own appeal and fanbase. If anything, more than a few of those who have played the series for a while will likely be tired of the same ole shtick and be looking for something more than racing silly races to get a new car just to race more silly races. Rinse, repeat.

GT Sport looks beautiful. I don't know that I've ever seen a more beautiful looking game trailer. But GTSport is akin to a very limited version of Project CARS 2. I am sure there will be more secrets of GTS to be revealed, but as of now, there does not appear to be anything GT Sport does that is unique from a racing/driving standpoint. Their focus is eSports, something Project CARS is already involved in. If the focus of GT Sport becomes purely the visuals, the game will die a quick death.

EDIT: Updated information on GT Sport suggests it will be more in line with the previous Gran Turismo titles than previously thought. We'll take a "wait and see" approach to this going forward.

Like I said before, as long everything functions well on pcars2 and it's not a lot of bugs and glitches then pcars2 will sell great no doubt. It will destroy the competition. I mean how can you look pass all of the features and other things that pcars2 offer's? You actually got people making videos saying don't buy pcars2 (blackpantha).

Oh god. Not him. I watched one of his videos and I just couldn't stand him. He went to Azure Coast (I think) in a Supercar, turned off the assists in the rain. Span and crashed then blame the game.

Yea I don't really watch his videos like that. It came up on my recommendation video's on YouTube. I suggest to him that if you know you won't be good at the game then don't even bother posting a video about it when you clearly have no idea what you're doing in it. I really hope he didn't expect the game to be like need for speed or the crew lol.

It's always: Seeing is believing but for the moment PCars2 is most promising and that is personal of course. Out of these three it is the most authentic real sim and the other two are more the arcadish approach. Each racer has obviously its pros and cons. Biggest advantage for Forza and GT Sport is that they have a much broader installed base audience (yet). But Pcars2 livetrack 3.1 ;). careermode, dynamic seasons/weather. Great selection of tracks and cars. great Q&A sessions with the (potential) buyers of the game. If only 99% is in the final race sim of all what we have seen and read so far. Only 'feature' I miss is PSVR support from day one. But would be nice for Christmas 17 timeframe

My 16 yr old/young son played a couple of times GTA online with him in the same game.

I have a few close league racing friends who have access to PCARS2 and the feedback I'm getting from them is positive and promising.
This is the only racing game I'm looking forward to this year.

Coincidentally, that's how I feel about this sentiment:

Like you said yourself, racing is what you do in a racing game. To earn money, you drive and race cars.

I certainly support the idea of a free play mode where everything is unlocked like in PCARS, and I think the racing itself can be done much better than it has been in Forza games; you can have that and also buy and collect cars. Such a thing can even co-exist with a career mode like PCARS1's, much like Dirt 4, where you can play the whole game as a driver for hire instead of buying cars and running a team. It's your choice. They're not mutually exclusive concepts.

I think the career mode in PCARS1 is relatively lifeless and pointless. I agree racing is what you do in a racing game, but without things to unlock, buy, collect, earn, personalize, upgrade, etc. there are no rewards more tangible than a trophy icon and no goals except to check off championships from a list. Race in a championship, win a trophy. Rinse, repeat. It limits any sense of self-determination or personality to your career.

I hope PCARS2 can breathe more life into the career mode, because I think tackling it from an authentic chronological/seasonal format is a concept worth exploring. 👍

I've been playing Dirt 4 all week, and I'm enjoying the team management and building up from scratch, waiting for clean cars in the classifieds to scoop up historic models, working with sponsors and upgrading my facilities...It's the sort of thing I could enjoy starting over again, trying different things. I wouldn't do that with my career in PCARS1; there's no point.

I agree I like the everything is open is a good thing but you could earn a better pit crew or maybe even a better engineer with better tunes. Just a little something

That guy is such a tool.... "99% of people on computer use a controller."... oh really??:lol::lol::lol:

So let me see....... 90 members in our pCARS league (not all active anymore) and of those, I can think of.... drum roll please..... 1 that uses a controller..... seems to me someone got his percentages bass ackwards.

I won't even get into the rest of the flawed arguments.... LOL

I don't see a world where that would even make sense. You don't get a controller with a PC and that's why you're more likely to see wheel users on a simple racing game. In a casual game, yes. In a simple game, I doubt it. These people usually have their PC built to run intensive SIM racers.

I think I understand now why people capitalize "SIM"...because smartphones want to autocorrect it, like to "simple"? I never could figure out why "SIM" was written out in all caps.

My phone did autocorrect that yes.

The one thing they learned in 20 years... No more duplicates. Right?

I'll admit that I had a bit of GT nostalgia when watching the GTS E3 stuff, and I started wondering whether I should get a PS4 Pro just in case, but after seeing the PCARS2 videos this morning that went straight down the drain.

I'm not sure, whilst Forza Horizon sales flourish, the main Motorsport series has been dwindling. I suspect it will come down to a marketing battle and all they need to do is some fancy trailer showing live track 3.0 sped up to show all conditions, suitably epic classical music and then some cheesy slogan like "There is no greater challenge than nature itself", followed by some on track action. just a straight sucker punch as Forza has nothing comparable, if they try to go toe-to-toe they will lose.

GT on the other hand will sell like gangbusters no matter what, even GT6 which came out when everyone was focused on PS4 still sold more than double what Forza 6 could muster. When people talk about racing games everyone knows what GT is, just like if you talk about platformers, Mario is the one.

When it comes to Forza 7 vs PC2 all SMS needs to do is release a promotional video showing of more than 24cars on track with a time lapse of time of day and dynamic weather and giving the audience a short taste of more than 17 locations. The only thing PC2 lacks compared to Forza 7 is the hectic rev counter needle which I am frankly in love with :p

To me the whole reward in Project Cars is the race.

I just dont need a framework around that of rewards.

Fully understand there is a big market for that approach and Forza/GT/The Crew etc... deliver that but the fact that Project Cars does not make you jump through hoops is exactly what I want out of my racer.

I much rather have more tracks / cars / additional functionality useful for on the race track.

If they built a whole infrastructure around collecting, photo mode, money, upgrades etc.. then there would be no livetrack 3 or less cars / tracks / no license infrastructure / no esports functionality etc... because there is only so much investment possible.

All that upgrading / painting / buying / collecting makes the racing a secondary endeavour in the likes of GT and Forza to me - where you have to do the races to get the prize. I would much rather the prize be on the track - the core of the experience.

I would extend that to "Race Weekend" (with all that this implies).
But in my case, online.

I agree with you on all points here, but I also see the other side of it:

Forza and GT fans want both. And why not both?
They love the car collecting, modding, tuning, painting, etc. They love the car buying and car winning that results from winning the races. But many would also like realism. Realistic physics, realistic handling, realistic track conditions, realistic weather, realistic race weekend structure, etc, etc.

I loved a lot of things about Gran Turismo, but it always left me wanting, wishing, it had more on offer from a racing perspective. I'm sure Forza fans think the same way. Forza and GT, with all of their resources, could achieve both. Or at least get closer.

One day, maybe, there will be a game with all the realism of Project CARS 2 and iRacing in addition to all of the frivolities of Forza and Gran Turismo.
My guess is that it is more likely that SMS makes that game than Turn10. Perhaps, with GT Sport, PDI is leaning that direction. We'll see.
