They're called sausage kerbs, a harsh deterrent for corner cutting. Look up video from the Indian GP 2011, Massa broke his suspension on them twice. They're on quite a few GP tracks.

For those who have access to playing this. How would you compare it to the NFS Shift series?

1000% better.
It looks similar graphically, that's about it. Although the level of detail to the cars & tracks is much much higher than shift. There are a couple of things you can turn on like the helmet cam and the "g force effect" that make it look like shift if your watching youtube. ( I think those are the two things that some watch and say the physics dont look right compared to [_____] ) :indiff:

But the physics are a lot better and drive nothing like any of the shift games but they are still unfinished at this point.

My biggest hope is that when this is released you all instantly forget Shift even existed, so you all stop nagging about it.

It doesn't feel like shift, it doesn't handle like shift, it doesn't sound like shift and to be frank graphically it doesn't look like shift either due to higher detail and replicating tracks like they are in real life, where as shift had extra 'eye candy' around tracks.

The game when finished will easily (and it already does in my opinion) blow any old game that this studio has released under different names out of the water, especially that what has been developed under guidance of EA.

As A person who hasn't even played PCARS but unfortunately have played said EA game (and have complained many times here about it), let me tell you that I've already forgotten it existed

Youp, literally worlds apart from shift. No one needs to worry about that anymore. Although I can understand the worry as I had those exact same questions in my head when I first read about this project.

Sorry for the reminder then. :sly:

I'm only checking in here to see the progress, but so far I don't see anything that impresses me.

The game is getting better, although the physics still needs work. I have the game, almost from the start. I rarely play it mainly because of the issues with the FFB for my T500. Some builds it seems great, then the next build they tear it down and try to rebuild it. I believe by the time release date arrives it will be much better then any of their previous works.

One thing to keep in mind while you critique pCARS in here is not to be to judgmental. You must remember the game is still pre-alpha. It's not anywhere close to say, iRacing but it was not WMD's intent on building a sim of that nature. I think once we see the release there's going to be a lot of happy campers on the Xbox and the PS3. The PC version will be the best version without a doubt. Of course the game is a long way from completion so we have to be patient.

+1

ps. The current build feels great again on the CSW and T500. They fixed a divide by zero bug in the FFB that has made a big impact in the feel of many cars. You should try it if you have time. It's still far from complete but a big step again in the right direction. Ben Collins seems to love the Lotus 98T as it is right now, so maybe a suggestion as a car to at least try this build.

Small correction, but SMS has every intention of making a full on sim. One that can hopefully be regarded as the best out there.

Just checking if they have gotten the triple screen support going yet?
I haven't given it a try in a few months.

It can be regarded as the best car game for sure once everything comes together as planned, no doubt. But best sim? We must have very different views on what a sim should be 'cause that is just not going to happen as far as I can observe.

Just think about it, they're going for a different market, why would you even want to dub it a "full on sim"?

Full on sims are of a different category and appeal, so it takes absolutely nothing away from what SMS is trying to do with pCars. I don't get why people would even want to enter pCars into that crucible or think it's not going to be a good title unless people see it as a hardcore sim, get over it.

Here's a simple concept from me (I'm full of those xD):
pCars, to me, is to have fun while something like iRacing is to race. The difference is that if I stop having fun in pCars for any reason, I stop playing that day, but if I stop having fun in iRacing, I try harder in whatever's bringing me down to correct it because I have the motivation to race above all else and compete.

Make sense at all?

I suppose you can hope all you want, iRacing is just so well developed and getting stronger everyday. All the top sim racers on the planet race iRacing for a reason. I think pCARS will be the best console racer but not on the PC.

Yes. And that reason is that it had very little competition up until this point. Besides Race 07, there isnt any other sim out there yet with as much content from scratch, without the help of mods. What iRacing does, it does well and it will stay the Nr.1 in some things like oval racing, naturally. I m sure it will still be a healthy place to race in the future, but the cards will be newly mixed with the next gen sims that will come out over the next 12 Months.

And pCARS is one of them, if the devs can achieve all the things they plan to do. But I know, some people wont be able to imagine or even recognize that. A sim thats also released on console? Unfathomable!

I don't get it, it is claimed to be a genuine sim by SMS, even Inside Sim Racing which is sponsored by iRacing has admitted as much. But people still go on about iRacing is more of a sim, I play iRacing too but have an equal sim experience with the right mod on rFactor, GTR2 & GTL. I am definitely not a fanboy of any single piece of software but to me pCars is doing a great job at creating an alternative sim to iRacing.

I don't know, I subscribe to this little breakdown by RSC:

There are already lots of alternatives to iRacing. The real question to ask is, what is pCars competing with?

The newer Pcar footage looks great and they are heading in the right direction but I would think this list will hold true at the end.
Pcars = Taking GT5's and Forza's lunch money.
