I’m with you on this one,
When I purchase any game, I always look for something that has a Great Single Player Experience as I don’t want to spend my money and then have to depend on others to have a Great Time.

For Me the ability to play online with others is only an Added Bonus, I will do it occasionally but I find that most online racers I have run into display very juvenile behavior, lots of Ramming, premature ending of races if they are losing and just general bad behavior.

So, for me you Must start with a Great Standalone Experience and everything else is Icing on the Cake!!!

This is my bug bear with modern gaming. Online is the main focus, when it should be the bonus. Give us a proper game to enjoy, then give us an option to share it with others.

If the online driver profile works as I imagine, people will be forced to behave nice or get kicked into the lowest public serwers. So after you get you rank up, every MP race should be trouble-free.

At that point, you'll forget that single player even exists. But it does get competitive. Practice and good setup is a must, if you want top places. Unless there will be servers with locked setups...

Slightly confused about the "User Average Score - 8.6" bit. Is that based on the people that have been involved in the funding?, Or like when something is available for pre-order on amazon and everyone rates it a 5 star product just because they can?

For me, online racing is a time to get together with friends, race one another and just enjoy the experience. I am not hugely interested in high stress competition. I've been there, done that, and it causes far too much aggravation than it's worth. We will be running championships on our community site, we may even get ourselves setup on a dedicated server if we decide it's worth it for our size. Racing is hard, but fair, and we can all have a laugh afterwards.

Also, I don't have much time to go racing. The time I do get, I want to jump on and drive. I don't want to spend time waiting for enough people to enter a lobby, then to only race with idiots. Sure, the MP rankings may work... but I've not come across a system yet that is 100% fair.

Online racing simply isn't for everyone. It doesn't mean we are inferior in any way.
 
To be honest i think online gaming is weird to enjoy, not everyone behaves appropriatly of course, but then there is also the issue that some people are far too OP to have any serious competition with, just driving away for miles and miles, and others are just mediocre. Not saying im the best of course im middle to newbe in racing but once you have a good team that respects team races and dont quit rage once an accident happens, the levels are not mixed up well having.

It looks like PlayStation 4's next update 2.50 will include the option to put the console into rest mode, without closing any applications. Like the Xbox One currently has.

That should mean that we will be able to turn the PS4 into rest mode whilst doing these long endurance races in career mode.

Good thinking 👍, that would also mean folks on PC could just pause and put it into sleep? So obvious yet i didn't think about it yet.

Save option during pitstops would still be the best option though, for the sake of electricity bills and fire risk :D

If your PC is a fire risk than it's time to blow all the dust out of it, including powersupply. :P
 
A quick question; are the part perches/pitwall control booths/whatever you want to call them unoccupied? I can't see anyone in them from watching any videos, even ver recent ones. A minor detail, I know...

I have a question about the weather and in particular the wind (Sorry if the question has already been answered):

Does the game handle any form of wind direction and force?

I remember doing the 1000km of Suzuka on GT5 and while I can't remember if the wind had an effect on the car's behaviour, I clearly remember the spray (it was raining) being blown to one side on the back straight. That level of detail was rather impressive and welcome.

I think the main reason is because we're completely unsure of the answer. From what I remember, I think it was cosmetic, but the volumetric throttle is affected by air pressure and temperature.

No way in hell that was cosmetic. Sorry, but I've been at the forefront of that one as it felt like you were controlling engine crankshaft revolutions in a linear way with the throttle pedal before. You needed a lot of throttle (pedal) input to drive off normally, as it wasn't as sensitive in the first 15% if I remember well. Also playing with the throttle wasn't as natural and intuitive in the upper range either. Like I said, it felt too linear... direct and unnatural.

Afterwards it felt like you operated the throttle body instead, which would increase/decrease air intake with the throttle pedal. Which doesn't have to be linear per definition. That air intake is than calculated by keeping in mind air pressure (altitude sensitive) and I think more details.

The result was that the cars have gotten a lot more character. Each car has gotten a different throttle response curve, and different size throttle body.
Later on the new turbo system was also adapted to the new volumetric system. So the spooling up and down of the turbo(s) became much more fluid and natural, instead of the uncontrollable digital on/off I felt it was before.

There is no wind currently. Which is a shame, I know.
Doing it right means that you also need to simulate the aero of a car to the point where you simulate wind impact on the car from any direction. Including gusts and having impact on force feedback and what not more.

So it's quite a big thing to implement. Just like something with a lot of variation like having physics in place for SNOW&ice roads. So maybe it'll be for post-release, but I expect it to be more of a pCARS 2 thing.

Thinking ahead and wanting to do it properly is a nice approach. The game has plenty to play with anyway so I'm not disappointed at all.
And the SNOW reference isn't going unnoticed... :D
 
Yes. At the very beginning wind was set so strong that smoke almost immediatly disappeared :lol: This was an extreme and its much more subtle now, but still there.

This is what I'm saying, the direction of wind doesn't affect the car aerodynamically (which is what I think Warrius was asking about) or mechanically, but the other atmospheric effects do.

Just like you shouldn't expect Rally, you shouldn't expect SNOW either anytime soon. I'm sure once Rally is tackled and all the loose surface dynamics it would not surprise me if SNOW would be included.
Though as said, it's a lot of tyre physics dynamics that will need A WHOLE LOT of MASS WMD testing, especially since track temperature changes will influence the snow.
For example: if you'd do a 24hr endurance race and you have snow fall in the morning, temperatures above 0 degrees celcius melting the snow at noon, than the molten snow freezing up again at night. You get a mix of SNOW, ice and hardened iced over SNOW. Which is a lot of dynamics to deal with and to which the car should react properly. Also hitting a hardened snow wall will impact the car's damage in certain ways.

So yeah, all in all... it's a huge chunk of work I wouldn't see in this version of Project CARS at all. Unless we're sticking with pCARS 1 for a long time with a lot of post-release improvements and 'upgrades' to the game engine. Which is unlikely, as there is a 2 year update/DLC plan ahead I believe so far.

Oh and as far as capitalizing SNOW goes. That's something to do with WMD and a whole story on that (read my part at the bottom: http://throwingdigitalsheep.com/project-cars-special-pt-ii-conversation-wmd-community-seniors/ ). I just do it automatically these days when I use it in conjuction with Project CARS. Sorry.

Hey guys. I just wanted to take a moment and say how great it's been being able to be apart of all this. I'm 43 years old and can still remember playing around on my father's Texas instruments t-994a computer and writing gwbasic text adventures. And now look at where we are at in terms of realism and graphics today. You younger fellows can only speculate to how awesome of a ride it's been. Here's to :gtpflag:for giving us this great place to come and rap about racing and the games that we play on. And to SMS for this great game. And all the wmd members can kiss my 🤬 because you get to play right now. :lol: Thanks to you guys for passing your info on. PEACE!
